| Customer Reviews: This really is the best of Willie Nelson February 16, 2002 johnny.d@tinyonline.co.uk (Scotland) 35 out of 37 found this review helpful
For pure Willie fans this is a great cd having all the hits together for your pleasure. For people who are just getting to know Willie ( are there still any who don't ) this is a god send. From the start with the superb Georgia on my mind, willie is in fantastic voice. The album flows all the way through, there is not a skip this track in site. The album climaxes with Always on my Mind, always his best song, always sung to perfection and always the best ending to an album. You want to hear a fantastic Willie album THIS IS IT BUY IT NOW.
Brilliant. November 13, 2009 Pyewacket (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd never been a fan of country music before least not until I heard Willie Nelson singing 'You were always on my mind'.........this somewhat changed my outlook on this genre of music. There are sad ballads like the aforementioned one, jazzy ones (not literally) like Highwayman and my all time favourite has to be 'City of New Orleans'. This I usually have with me in the car and crank the volume up and sing along to. The words maybe sad as they often are in country music but the tune makes you happy. Some people would argue that Willie Nelson has a whiney edge to his voice but in my humble opinion, this is what makes him so different.

Excellent value, but hardly the best of. December 13, 2002 24 out of 28 found this review helpful
There are so many Willie Nelson compilations that, for those new to his wonderful music, it can be difficult to decide which one to buy. This one covers some of the albums he recorded during his Columbia years. However, it is impossible to produce a "best of Willie Neson" that only contains 17 tracks, and for an album that claims to be "the best of" it is amazing that classics like "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground", and "Whiskey River" are not included. The album is certainly excellent value, and every track on the album is a high quality performance of a high quality song, but as an introduction to the great singer and songwriter's work it does leave something to be desired. There are very few of Willie's own compositions, which there should be in any "Best of" compilation. Fans of Willie Nelson will already have most of these tracks, and those looking for a representative compilation of his Columbia years would be better purchasing the "Revolutions in Time" box set.
When a Best Of is not really THE Best Of! November 27, 2006 Kevan James 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
A nice selection of songs here but hardly the Best Of!

br /Yes, poor old Willie has been compiled more times than you can shake a stick at, but to call this CD "The Best Of" really is unfair! Don't get me wrong, these are 17 great tracks but there is so much missing: Night Life, Hello Walls, Crazy (yes, Willie wrote this one!), Funny How Time Slips Away (and this one!), Me And Paul, Shotgun Willie, On The Road Again, and Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground, just to name a few.

br /If you want a cheap starter collection, this is fine, but do yourself a favour, pay another two quid and you can get the 2 disc set "The Essential Willie Nelson" with a massive 41 tracks: it's still not really the true 'best of' but it's well worth the money!

br /And then look at the "Complete Atlantic Sessions", a budget 3CD box, to see what these 'best of' collections miss out on!!

A Slice Of Willie. February 13, 2009 Thorny Bush (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
As other reviewers have pointed out, this isn't really 'the best of' but 'a slice of'.

br /It's a great album for anyone getting started with willie but there are some key recordings missing. It's a nice listen though and a few of his classics are present for your listening pleasure. The bottom line is -you'll enjoy it. Adios.
