Lovely CD, lovely CD case, lovely booklet, lovely price and most of all lovely - "exemplary" according to "Gramophone" - performance. The majority are my old old favourites but the few tracks thitherto unknown to me are also just as enticing. The booklet is very informative; it explains a little about the hymnodic tradition and the hymns chosen for this recording. It does not so.und like what you might hear in school assemblies or on Sunday at your parish church; it is a grand sort of rendition by arguably the most prestigious choir there has ever been in the Anglican tradition, much like the grand Cathedral in which it was recorded. If this distinction makes a diference to you then consider this well; the English Brass Ensemble does not hold back when it is called forth on this CD!
