Amazon.co.uk Review First heard trying to calm Ol' Dirty Bastard on "Got Your Money" from his INigga Please/I, 20-year-old Kelis now appears with her own album. Multi-threat production team the Neptunes turn the aptly named IKaleidoscope/I into the same kind of playground they provided for ODB, and even singing the masterminds' songs, Kelis quickly establishes it as her own hip-hop-wise RB turf. Though it quickly gained attention for the ranting "Caught Out There" ("I hate you so much right now!"), the disc proves this unique singer equally as convincing in other complex moods, such as a comic take on romantic pain ("Game Show") and an offbeat memory of childhood ("Roller Rink"). More playful than Mary J. Blige, Kelis makes as strong a first impression--and, like Blige, shows every sign of sticking around. I--Rickey Wright/I

Buy this album December 12, 2000 pnicol@yahoo.com (Sussex, england) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
this is perhaps the best album i have bought this year. Every track on here is good. There are a few dodgy moments but Game show is a track which can only be taken in good humour. Mafia is one of the standout tracks of the album, it profiles kelis' vocal talents very well. mars is another of those brilliant tracks and for some reason my cd has become scratched on that particular track so i am actually willing to go and buy another copy because it is missing one track. Ghetto children is one of the more upbeat tracks on the album and if carried very well by the male vocalist who sings with kelis. all of the tracks on this album are great I reccomend all music fans to buy this.
exellent February 23, 2001 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
very good album. one small snag, roller rink is rubbish. but the rest of the album is exellent. brilliant production by the neptunes. well worth the money.
Simply the best soul album in years March 4, 2001 H. meiehofer (glasgow, scotland) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a truly fantastic CD. I see that other reviews have singled out the odd track as rubbish or said that the album as a whole has some dodgy bits. This is just not true! Kelis and her production team are major talents and I only hope that this 20 year old can live up to this initial promise and that Kaleidoscope does not turn out to be some kind of aural Citizen Kane
well, what can I say??? March 4, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When i first heard caught out there i wasn't sure but then god stuff came along which really gave me the boost to buy the album. and it wasn't a dissapointment. The neptunes are a over every track, adding so much veriety to the project. this album is a masterpiece. Her second album is now in the making, and she has a lot to live up to. I think you'll agree if you buy it. She really is a breath of fresh air.
KELIS KICKS ASS!!!! July 23, 2002 Kelis fan (England) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
At first I was looking for kelis' 2nd album, 'wanderland' [which i then bought on the strength of 'kaleidoscope'] however when i saw this album i ordered it imediately!! pthe first track is the 'INTRO', which i thought at first was a little weak, however after a few plays it really tells a story.ptrack 2: 'Good Stuff', this really rocks!!!p3: 'Caught Out There' you just have to listen to the chorus, 'i hate you so much right now'.p4: 'Get Along With You' rocks big time.p5: 'Mafia' this is by far the best track in the family.p6: 'Game Show' the beats on this song are great.p7: 'Suspended' GREAT!! the whispering of pharrell williams [of the neptunes] is hauntingp8: 'Mars' funnyp9: 'Ghetto Children' this is great and Marc Dorsey has a great voice.p10: 'I Want Your Love' this is a fantastic song. Kelis' dry, raspy voice really shines through.p11: 'No Turning Back' i love this song.p12: 'Roller Rink' this is a great song with an even better rap by pharrell williams on the beginning.p13: 'In the Morning' wonderfulp14: 'Wouldn't You Agree', this run of the mill, cheesy love songreally lets the entire album down.
