Amazon.co.uk Review With IStanding On The Shoulder Of Giants/I, Oasis--the self-professed "biggest rock roll band in the world"--continue exploring their fascination with Great British Bands of the late 1960s. Paying homage to your heroes is one thing, but many of IStanding On The Shoulder/I's best moments sound like their icons' worst. However, this is Oasis, and they do manage to pull some stunners out of their hats: "Gas Panic" and "Where Did It All Go Wrong?" demonstrate the command of catchy hooks and epic anthems that made their first two albums--IDefinitely Maybe/I and I(What's The Story) Morning Glory?/I--such classics. Elsewhere, their influences are more obvious. The psychedelic "Who Feels Love?" is a perfect example of George Harrison in full Eastern Mystic mode, complete with sitars, tablas and tape-loops. Outright rocker "Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is" has the strut and stomp of vintage Doors or Rolling Stones, but is ultimately let down by its weak songwriting ("Ready or not, come what may/The bets are going down for judgement day"). The most dubious lyrics are saved for the Liam Gallagher-penned "Little James", his paean to paternal love which--perhaps unintentionally--contains some of rock's most laughable couplets ("You live for your toys, even though they make noise"). IStanding On The Shoulder Of Giants/I doesn't represent a major step forward for Oasis, but it is a definite improvement on the band's previous album, IBe Here Now/I. For stronger evidence as to why Oasis is credited with resurrecting Britpop in the late 20th century, newcomers to the band would do well to investigate IDefinitely Maybe/I or I(What's The Story) Morning Glory?/I. --IRob Burrow/I

You wanna knock Oasis? Well listen to this... November 26, 2000 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Ok, so we've all heard the criticisms. They just rehash old hits from the Beatles, etc... Other Brit bands from the '90s were much better but didn't have as much clout... Well, in this album, I think we hear the real reasons why Oasis won their battles with Blur and the like.pThe first track is unusual (!), but very tongue-in-cheek and with a great guitar line. Go Let It Out will have you swinging, Who Feels Love has a great Indian feel to it... Then it starts to get brilliant. Put Your Money rocks, as does I Can See A Liar (although the lyrics are kinda bizarre).pLittle James, Roll It Over and Sunday Morning Call are much slower, but have that kindof tearfully epic feel to them that made Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova such beautiful tunes.pAnd what can I say about Gas Panic and Where Did It All Go Wrong?? The best 2 on the album. Buy it just for these.pSo what if they are so similar to the Beatles? You need to be a genius to produce tunes which are just as good as theirs, so why knock them for that? This album wraps up everything inherently Oasis and delivers it with a mighty kick that'll send you on a trip abandon and leave you wondering why those mongs who love to hate Oasis won't crawl back into their musically-naive holes and shut up, while we enjoy their unique and timeless sound.
What Can I Say? July 13, 2000 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
The best album I have heard in ages. After the brilliant albums they have produced so far, I thought they would be hard to follow. But they have done it and in my view, it is their best album. pFuckin' in the bushes: A great instrumental giving the classic Oasis sound (8 out of 10) pGo Let It Out: The first release from the album and a brilliant one it is too. (10)pWho Feels Love?: A good song that if you listen to enough, it will grow on you and you will hum it forever (8)p pPut Yer Money Where Yer Mouth: A good song, but my least favourite on the album (6)p Little James: Liam's first stab at lyric writing and a great start it was too. His feelings come through brilliantly in this song. (10)p Gas Panic: A Brilliant song that would have you singing along to for ages (10)p Where Did It All Go Wrong?: The best song on the album in my view and I feel most other people would feel the same as me when I give it top marks (10)p Sunday Morning Call: The latest release and a great on it is too. Begins softly then builds up to a great song (9)p I Can See A Liar: My intial favourite on this album, it is a great song with a brilliant percussion performance (9)p Roll It Over: Has the sound of Masterlan and Champagne Supernova and is as great as them (10)pWhy people could say that this album is rubbish is beyond me. Words fail to describe how good this album is. The best album by far in my collection and I hope Oasis keep churning out brilliant albums.
AN EXCELLENT ALBUM, I JUST HOPE THEY KEEP DOIN' IT!! August 8, 2001 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I thought this was quite poor at first, and had I reviewed it about six months ago I would have probably given it one star, but i realised what a classic it really is. It really didn't deserve the reception it got. It really is a timeless one with my personal favourite being Sunday Morning Call. pGo Let It Out lets you know that Oasis still have that kind of early talent.pLittle James is a good one especially as it wa written by Liam.pGas Panic was another personal favourite of mine and it has that kind of late Oasis feel.pAll in all a very good album, that most people fail to remember got to Number 1. Don't believe everything you read in the papers, listen to us, the people who own it.pBy the way, to all those people who write reviews just to knock Oasis, those anti-Oasis freaks who try to force their opinions onto other people who are actually interested in Oasis and those people who don't like Oasis and want their average star rating to go down, do us all a favour and save your fingertips the wear and tear of typing out the rubbish that you do.pLikewise to those people who were absolutely blown away by previous albums and just like Oasis, but not necessarily the album, who just give this album five stars for the sake of it, don't bother!pI like to listen to opinions but not the love/hate mail that some people send in that is of no real relevance.
So Overlooked..... April 6, 2007 P. Jones (Salford, Manchester) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
I would be tempted to give this album 4 stars but with all the dross at the minute (yes i'm looking at you kaiser chiefs, maximo park, my chemical romance etc) it deserves 5.

br /Firstly it sounds completely different from any other oasis album. Experimental, drugs and the beatles all spring to mind.
br /
br /1. F*ckin in the bushes - Brilliant start off, thumping drums, wierd samples, great guitars. Regularly played to open off concerts even today 9/10
br /2. Go let it out - Awesome, really truly awesome song. Can't believe tracks like wonderwall/stand by me etc get more play than this. Catchy verses, great lyrics all build up into one brilliant climax and guitar solo at the end of the track. 10/10
br /3. Who Feels Love - Sounds like nothing oasis have ever done before (besides maybe fade in/out off be here now). Very cool. 8/10
br /4. Put yer money where yer mouth is - Poor effort, silly song. Worst on the album. 4/10
br /5. Little James - Besides the one terrible lyric (Toys/Noise) this is a great little tune. Vastly underrated. 7/10.
br /6. Gas Panic! - Along with Go Let It Out for the best song on the album. Fantastic lyrics, Great production, awesome live. Should still be played today, crime that it wasnt a single. 9/10
br /7. Where did it all go wrong? - Noel in reflective mood here (do you keep the reciepts, for the friends that you buy? top line). Seems very dark and depressed on this one. Nevertheless a fine song. Another should have been a single. 8/10.
br /8. Sunday Morning Call - Not bad, but Noel has done so much more since. (See Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders? from the GOAL soundtrack or Idlers Dream, a B-Side from the Hindu Times). Still a good effort though. 7/10.
br /9. I can See a liar - some people hate it, others love it. I love it, make your own mind up. 8/10.
br /10. Roll it over - Great closer, slow paced and nice production. Another could-have-been-a-single. 8/10

br /All in all this album has been so worngly bashed over the years. Its cheap now so do yourself a favour and get a copy, you wont regret it.
Their best album August 14, 2001 truster38 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Now, before you decide to kill me, let me explain why I think Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants is Oasis' best album. I was quite aloof during the glory days when Oasis was, undoubtedly, the biggest band in the world. I got into the band about 1999, so I think I can be a little more objective toward the albums than someone who went through Oasis-mania. I do believe this is their best album. Now, keep in mind, I didn't say that this album had the best singles or songs, but as a full-length, start-to-finish disc, this one is the best and most consistent of all four (well five, counting The Masterplan). The one thing I noticed is that although this one uses alot more loops and things than other albums, it is also Oasis' most acoustic album, and I really think that Noel is at his best when he's strumming on an acoustic (he's even said so). The best songs are Go Let It Out, a classic single with that great loud burst of acoustic at the beginning, and Liam's voice in full growl mode. On Who Feels Love?, another great sounding, kind of acoustic-psychdelic track, Liam shows how great he is at pitching a hook. Other highlights include Gas Panic! and another acoustic-ish single, Sunday Morning Call. My favorite is Where Did It All Go Wrong?. This sort of epic anthem is Oasis in a nut-shell: a band so talented it can take mediocre lyrics and make it sound great. Noel sings this one very well, and the whole song has more depth and a kind of atmosphere than most Oasis tunes. It actually might be my favorite Oasis track. The only track that's a little forgettable is Roll It Over and maybe Little James (although that's Liam's first written tune, so we should keep that into consideration). So, there's about 7-8 great tracks on this one, as opposed to Definitely Maybe (I always skip Columbia, Up In The Sky, and Bring It Down), and (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, which, really, only has five truly memorable tunes (Some Might Say, Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, Cast No Shadow). As for Be Here Now, well, we all know about that one.
