Amazon.co.uk Review LL Cool J's egotism is his m.o., his sex appeal, his greatest strength. He'd been on top of the world since he started scoring hits as a teenager, but anyone who's been in the rap game for five years, as he'd been when IMama/I arrived, has something to prove. So he came out swinging--literally--with the title track, which claims boxing trash talk as proto-rap and turns it into a declaration of ongoing mastery. Beyond that, IMama/I, with its ultrahard Marley Marl production, pumps up his love-man rep (the sweetly affectionate "Around the Way Girl" and an even hornier remix of "Jingling Baby") and his ego (pretty much everything else). It's mostly just old-school boasting, but damn if it isn't deserved. --IDouglas Wolk/I

Execellent LL Cool J album nearly as good as G.O.A.T. April 17, 2001 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
A must have for any LL Cool J fan. Some of his best tracks are on this album such as Murdergram, Mama Said Knock You Out and 6 Minutes of Pleasure. Outstanding producing from Marley Marl and excellent lyrics and rap from LL Cool J.
Eat em Up L March 2, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Going back through my albums the other day, I dusted this off and played it. What can I say...but that they dont make ALBUMS like this anymore. In that its a whole album where every song is great in its own right. Sure there are a couple of cracking singles on here, but its a rounded piece of work. LL coming hard off the brunt of criticism for being too extragvant with panthers, girls and champagne all over his album covers (which is what hip-hop has morphed into today), went back to the lab with Marley Marl and cooked up this masterpiece. Theres funky LL (Eat Um Up L, Booming system), battle rhyme LL (Murdergram, to tha break of dawn, mama said) New Jack LL (Illegal search, 6 minutes of pleasure) and of course a few obilgatory LL tunes for the ladies.pMost importantly, even in 2006 the beats still bang hard - a testament to the amazing production skils of Marley Marl. This sadly was what I consider the last great LL album - so its worth picking up. A Hip Hop classic
Ll's best May 28, 2005 matt jansen Unfortunately some people may find the heavy bass, marley marl production a bit dated, but i love it. The beats compliment the aggressive flow of Ll (who is counter-attacking with this comeback effort). This features the 1st love ballad Ll has really perfected, the beautiful 'around the way girl'. Other standouts include: the title track, 'mr good bar', 'farmers blvd' and a very similar version of the excellent 'jinglin baby'.

Replete with the 3 R's-rhyme, rhythm and reason - this album by Mr Cool is distinguished also by its humour. There are lots of very good songs lurking beneath the rap which makes his music palatable even to those not into hiphop. Mr Good Bar contains some hilarious declarations while elsewhere LL proves that rap can be every bit as soulful as, well, soul music. That doesn't mean he's lost his roar - the titl track and Illegal Search are sizzling roots rap pieces bobbing on a funk train. There's also some gospel rap on the last track!
One of his best February 18, 2006 We all know LL Cool J was great until the late 90#x27;s. Phenomenon was one of the biggest let downs to me when it was released. It wasn#x27;t a patch on this LP or Mr Smith, even on 14 Shots. This is a great Hip Hop album. The production is tight and who wouldn#x27;t want to check out the LP that was created along with Mama Said Knock You Out (the title track).
