| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Young RB star Mya got some mileage from her 1998 debut album's "It's All About Me" and "My First Night with You", but made her deepest marks that year with cameos on two film-related hip-hop singles, Pras Michel's "Ghetto Supastar" and Blackstreet's "Take Me There." Back with her own second release, IFear of Flying/I, she aims to solidify her identity. The promising title--perhaps a nod to Erica Jong's groundbreaking 70s novel about liberated female sexuality?--turns out to be a reference to commitment-phobia. The high must be followed by heartbreak, the song implies. That theme resounds in various ways through many of the record's other tracks, from the sneering "Case of the Ex" to the bouncing "Lie Detector" (which showcases dancehall king Beenie Man). Mya grabs for a piece of her own freedom with the party celebration and Left Eye duet "Takin' Me Over", which comes as a welcome change of pace from the focus on failed romance. IFear of Flying/I is hardly a great album, but it does represent a real step forward for the singer. --IBob Roget/I

FLYING HIGH April 27, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Everyone knows Mya's voice as the sugary sweet one on mega-hit 'Ghetto Supastar' (with Pras Michel) from a few years back, but she still hasn't fully got the recognition she so rightly deserves in the UK just yet. I was a bit wary of the album at first - I only new her from Ghetto Supastar - but I was in for a shock with this.br After storming to number one (albeit with 3 other divas) on Lady Marmalade, she came back with the fantastic 'Case Of The Ex', which can be heard on this fantastic album, 'Fear Of Flying'.br There are clearly two types of songs on this album - the breezy ballads, and the r'n'b stompers, and the ratio is about half and half - perfect. Fear Of Flying (the song) is probably the best out of all the ballads. It is airy, and perfectly showcases Mya's light voice. Can't Believe and Tears On My Pillow are the two other major standouts of the ballads, and Now Or Never is probably the most uptempo of them all.br The r'n'b songs are another lot altogether, and more than hold their own against the ballads. Single Case Of The Ex is one of the weaker of the r'n'b songs. Pussycats is a slick number, and How You Gonna Tell Me is full to the brim with typical US diva attitude. Takin' Me Over (featuring the late Lisa Lopes), is in a class of its own, with Mya and Lefteye recalling events at a party. The song is unique, and insanely addictive. Lie Detector is a saucy offering (with Beenie Man) about catching your partner out, and it works well.br Overall, with Lefteye, Beenie Man and Jadakiss on the album, Mya writing or co-writing many of the songs, and r'n'b beats mixed with beautiful ballads, well, it's safe to say that Mya is one diva who will be flying high.
Gettin the best of mya November 13, 2003 K. S. Williamson 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The best mya album. Every tune is listenable and you wont want to skip any (expect maybe the skit.. which after 20 times of listenin to can get annoying)brTears on my pillow is probably the best tune on here, showcasing her fluffy sweet voice with meaning, and beat.brFor the 1st time is probably the next best, followed by the best of me ft jadakiss, however its hard to choice with the selection being so high, because we cant forget her duet with the late left eye lisa lopes, taking me over. How u gonna tell me is also gr8...brBasically all the tunes are great! Buy it.. cuz u dont know what ur missin!
Moulin Rouge Moll Makes Magic! March 22, 2002 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Mya finally got the recognition in the international world of music after she stunningly sang with Christina A., P!NK and Lil' Kim on global smash 'Lady Marmalade', and the Moulin Rouge moll doesn't dissapoint on this sparkling album! Single 'Case of the Ex' and smooth offering 'Pussycats' should keep r'n'b fans grinning from here to Mexico, and for the more poppy among us, 'Now Or Never' is the best thing to bop along to on the alb. 'Takin' Me Over' is as unusual as it is brilliant, featuring the lovely Lefteye and the only disappointment is that the young lady won't be back with an album until later in the year! But for now, the blissful tunes and spiky beats should keep the world gagging for more of Mya!
This is a fantastic album! February 25, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD has lots of different vibes. I'm totally hooked on it! Mya has a great original sound. There's cool vocals, music and lyrics. My favourite tracks are Free, Pussycats and Now or Never.
Excellent CD from a very talented lady June 3, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great CD - has something for every mood - upbeat and funky to smooth and chilled. Mya is a class act. Great voice, great dancer and a fabulous entertainer. Love it!!!
