| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Built around 13 songs from his first three albums, this IAnthology/I resoundingly affirms Lyle Lovett's gifts. When he emerged in the mid-1980s at the dawn of new traditionalism, he had more than a craggy visage to set him apart. His subtle wit, sly humour and Texas-sized musical eclecticism made him a force. One hears his musical metamorphosis from the beginning, through the stomping blues of "Why I Don't Know", the honky-tonk talking blues "Give Back My Heart" and the folkier "LA County" and "If I Had a Boat". Nine numbers, including "Cowboy Man," appeared on singles (most as A-sides). The biggest oddities here are two newly recorded tracks, "The Truck Song" and "San Antonio Girl". They are Lovett's first new recordings in five years, and they share a nearly identical melody. Moreover, they really don't fit this context, though they may prompt hardcore fans to buy 13 songs they probably already own. Let's hope Lovett's working on an entire album where these two numbers will make more sense. I--Rich Kienzle/I

| Customer Reviews: Beautiful! August 1, 2005 S. E. Tweddle (Newcastle UK) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Nothing you can say in praise of Lyle can compare to the beauty of his voice. His sad songs tear at your heart and make you weep, and his to be honest, even the happy songs leave you with a kind of warm melancholy. pAny Lyle Lovett CD is worth adding to your collection - but if you're new to Lyle - try this compilation and weep yourself dry with admiration!
An acquired taste (but worth it) April 12, 2009 Siriam (London United Kingdom) I bought this compilation after seeing Lovett's band live in London recently and not knowing anything about him or his music before going. That memorable two hour show included many of the songs on this anthology and like the show no prior expectations but perseverance, leads to a greater appreciation of the man's many talents - understated delivery, pure voice, high standards of musicianship and idiosyncratic lyrics.

br /I have no knowledge of Lyle's other releases, his recording history and those which are good or to be avoided releases versus what is represented here, but I would certainly based on my own experience recommend this as a good starting point to see if the man is to your taste.
worth a listen April 27, 2009 P. R. Middlehurst (Newquay, Cornwall) A good selection of songs from several albums. Not the sort of record to make you jump up in amazement but more a pleasant journey through some very listenable Country and Americana styles. High-class background music.
