Amazon.co.uk Review Strangely for a greatest hits compilation, Green Day's IInternational Superhits/I opens with two new songs recorded in 2001. "Maria" is Green Day playing to their strengths, a burst of rattling skinny tie new wave that has you itching to join the nearest mosh pit, and the cool acoustic pop of "Poprocks and Coke" is worthy of the trio's INimrod/I. The implication is clear: the unfortunate diversion undertaken by 2000's IWarning/I (where the band horrifically mutated into The Levellers) is over and now it's business as usual. Thank God for that. Although a host of skate chancers have tried to rewrite the likes of "Basket Case" and "Brain Stew", no one does punk pop better than Billie Joe and the boys. No one does it quite as intelligently either. "Longview" almost sneers at the slacker ennui it seems to embody, "Welcome to Paradise" sneaks in a cheeky steal from Dead Kennedys, and "Redundant" runs on a sublime psyche melody worth of Elliott Smith. All of which proves you don't need a potty mouth and a dull 'tude to be a real rebel--and dreadlocks and dogs on strings are a definite no no. I--Ian Watson/I

Green Day: International superhits! March 19, 2005 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
What can I say? The "Best of" collection of one of the greatest bands in the world. You know it's gonna be good! It also contains all their best from Longview to Minority, Basket Case to Warning-you get the picture. I only really got into Green Day in the middle of 2004, and since buying this album, I'm a huge Green Day fan! This is Green Day at their prime, so to anyone who has never heard anything before "American Idiot" I cannot reccomended this enough!
Warning, seriously good! August 19, 2005 Shkandrij 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Now that everyones got over how brilliant American Idiot was, people are going back and listening to some of the classics that this band recorded. This is the greatest collection of all their greatest songs, and includes mint tracks such as WARNING, MINORITY and BASKET CASE.
...this album will lift you up into the sky when you're in a bad mood... February 13, 2002 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
Some outstanding songs on the album would have to be 'Longview', a sarcastic look at the life of REAL people (lol that's the only way I can describe it!); 'Minority', a classic Green Day song which will always be chanted at one in the morning after parties by me and my mates; 'Good Riddance', a touching ballad that is complemented brilliantly by Billie Joe's unique voice and gentle guitar-playing, (it has reduced me to tears in some less sober moments!); 'Warning', a nice, bold look at how authority protects us... actually no, it's just a long list of warnings... buy the album and listen to it if you really wanna know!!! pThe last track of the album brings you down brilliantly - the amazingly moving Macy's Day Parade. Again, Billie Joe's lovely voice reaches all the peaks and troughs of this nice, long ballad about - well, you have to listen to it, I sing along all the time but I haven't worked out exactly what it's about yet! It's such a LOVELY song though! pBut, if it's hardcore Green Day punk that you're looking for, BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!!! I can go on about the 'lovely songs' but an album full of them would get boring, and it is the good old upbeat, throw-yourself-around-the-room type of punk-pop that Green Day do best that brings this album to life, which is evident in songs such as 'Longview', 'She', 'JAR', 'Poprocks and Coke'... I could go on but I'm only allowed 1000 words! pTo sum it up, this album will lift you up into the sky when you're in a bad mood, vent your frustration when angry, and give you a reason to bounce around when you're feeling hyper! BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!! Just go! Now! Get out the credit card and... BUY IT!
In the words of Churchill.......Oh yes! October 12, 2004 Mr. A. M. Bayliss (England) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
What can be said about this album? Quite simply, it's fantastic! In an age when Busted and McFly are consindered punk (Joe Strummer must be turning in his grave!)it's time for the good old boys to show everyone how it's done. Many purist's say that it's not real punk, but if punk in all about short, thrashed out tunes with plenty of attitude that get's you pogoing around like Zebedee on Pro Plus, then this is punk at it's very best. True, many people do feel the same way about Busted and McFly and if that's what rocks their boat then fine, but one listen to tunes like Basket Case, Hitchin a Ride and Geek Stink Breath proves that todays bands have a lot of catching up to do. Amongst the great rock tunes is, in my opinion, one of the greatest tunes ever written by anyone, Good Riddence (time of your life). Billy Joe, an acoustic guitar and a few strings, it's perfection. And that's not the only ballad, Macy's day parade is a cracking tune to, which shows that these boys can be chilled out and sensitive when they need to be. Also listen to Warning, then put on Picture Book by The Kinks, The similarity is pretty clear! If you haven't got this album and are wondering about weather or not to buy it I'm telling you that the answer is yes! Invest your money and you won't be disappointed! It's a perfect introduction to the band and a great album to own in it's own right. There are many pretenders to the thrown, but Green Day are atop a plinth of Marshall Amps waiting for the crowd to catch up. A brilliant collection from a fantastic band
A great introduction June 19, 2003 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
Green Day are a band who have been to some extent plagued by an unimaginative music press insistent on tying them into the awful 'pop punk' scene they inspired. In fact, they're one of the greatest rock bands of the nineties and however boringly samey the music they have influenced is, they're way above that, and all of their own albums are packed with brilliantly crafted songs. This retrospective is a great look back on their major-label career (it skips their first two 'Lookout Records' releases). pIt spans from Dookie's furious ode to boredom 'Longview' to some great cuts off their 2000 studio album 'Warning'. Then, to show they're not slacking and milking the cash cow too much, they stuck on two new tracks to open the CD, a re-recording of a frantic rocker of b-side called 'Maria', and the soothing FM strummer 'Poprocks And Coke'. Both are great tracks but are probably not enough to recommend this album to die-hard fans who own all the albums, as the rest of the material (besides hard-to-find single 'J.A.R.') they will already own.pFor the music lover just getting into Green Day, however, this is a great introduction. Whilst their huge hit singles are only a small portion of this band's truly great songs (you have to dig into the album catalogue to find some of the real gems), it's a good place to start. It's also a great collection if you just want to dip into Green Day and own their singles.pThe tracklisting is straightforwardly chronological, but is effective in showing how the band developed. After 'Dookie', via the raw edginess of the 'Insomniac' (probably their finest album) singles, it takes the listener into the clever instrumentation of songs like 'Hitchin' A Ride' and 'Minority', off the more sophisticated, mature records 'Nimrod' and 'Warning'. The beautiful 'Macy's Day Parade' off the latter closes the hits package well.pMany have partly written off Green Day for recent efforts, including the Amazon review above ('the band horrifically mutated into The Levellers' is a ridiculous claim, and seems ignorant of the fine merits of 'Warning'). But to me the band are on the cusp of another great record, and time will tell. In the meantime, this hits package and the more recent b-sides set, 'Shenanigans', are good for taking in the history of this great band.
