Amazon.co.uk Review
Tracking the 30-year career of The Partridge Family's greatest star, IThen and Now/I is a comprehensive compendium of the tunes which set the world alight from the early 1970s onwards. Ranging from the three-minute Partridge pop nuggets of "I Think I Love You" and "I Woke Up In Love This Morning" to solo hits such as "Cherish" and "Rock Me Baby", it's easy to hear why Cassidy's sold over 25 million albums worldwide. Surprisingly there are some notable exclusions on IThen and Now/I such as "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted," and "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do". Thankfully the pulsating 1985 comeback song "The Last Kiss" is included. The later part of the collection includes more recent material such as "Sheltered In My Arms" where Dave drops his usual Cliff Richard style vocals in favour of those resembling Rick Astley, and "Ricky's Tune" a Faithless style trip-hop track proving that he's still just as much "now" as "then". "No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross" is another new production that coincidentally was written by Simon Climie (aka Climie Fisher) and Lulu. In an attempt to woo the kids again there's also a rather feeble version of "Could It Be Forever", re-recorded with pop stars Hear'Say. Apart from this slightly shaky ending an essential collection for fans, and an excellent introduction to the work of one of teeny-pop's first pin-ups. --IJohn Galilee/I

5 out of 5 stars A super album   October 1, 2001

This CD Contains 22 tracks including just about every solo hit in the UK plus a host of partridge family hits and songs. And if that wasn't enough it contains some new songs and covers!pFirstly just about all the tracks have been (Studio) re-recorded by David today, which is so refreshing and some of them give a different angle on the song so well known. The result is stunning!! eg Lyin to Myself; Could It Be Forever. 'The Last Kiss' is an Original recording from 1985 taken from the Romance Album, as well as 'No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross', 'Sheltered In Your Arms', 'Ricky's Tune' from Old Dog New Trick. Fans of Hear'Say will get a kick out of the dueted version of 'Could It Be Forever' however I feel that different voices don't mix with the feeling of the song as it was written for a solo.pAs most of the Partridge/Cassidy solos original recordings (from the early 70's) are available elsewhere a compilation of these re-recordings is a bonus to David's vast talent as a singer. Well done David for these new recordings! I'm sure fans will welcome this CD. pI guess what's needed too is re-issues of all David's Solo albums on CD. This would be brill!!

5 out of 5 stars Cassidy's Back!!!   October 9, 2001

For years, fans have waited for David's original recordings to be re-released on CD. While many of the Partridge albums have been reissued, to date only one of David's 70s albums has made it to CD - the hugely successful Cherish. This release is 2001 take on most of David's earlier hits and is the next best thing to the originals. The backing tracks largely remain true to the originals but David has put a fresh stamp on the lead vocals. There are several new recordings too. Stand out tracks in my view are I Write The Songs, Rock Me Baby, Some Kind Of A Summer, Cherish, Could It Be Forever, Ain't No Sunshine, Cry, Ricky's Tune, No Bridge I Wouldn't Cross - damn it, they're all excellent. David is in fine voice throughout!! As I write this review, the CD is #7 first week in on the National Top 40. A stunning result for a stunning album and a must for all David Cassidy fans who would love to take the journey from Then to Now!!!

5 out of 5 stars David has a hit   October 1, 2001

This CD is an excellent mix of songs. David Cassidy has re-recorded many of his hits (both solo hits and those with the Partridge Family)from the 70's and has also included other songs from the 90's previously unreleased in the UK, and two songs (Ain't No Sunshine and Cry) which are completely new recordings for him. There is also a second new version of Could It Be Forever which is a duet with Hear'Say. It is particularly interesting to listen to the new versions of 70's hits and compare David's vocals. Obviously his voice has matured and is as good (if not better) than ever. This CD is a must for all David Cassidy/ Partridge Family fans and with 22 tracks is extremely good value for money.

5 out of 5 stars Im Just a Daydreamer !   January 17, 2003

Yes, I am a Daydreamer, and my mind floated back to the hazy mellow days of the 70s when the world was a good place to live in as a child/teenager, and many happy hours could be spent inbryour bedroom drooling at the David or Donny posters and enjoying the music that they produced. Now, all those lovely far-offbrmemories come flooding back with the strains and melodies ofbrMr Cassidy's simplistic ballads on CD....Its quite right that he should be singing them as he is now, as we are how we are nowbrlistening to these tunes and he is bringing them up to datebrwithout losing too much of the sing-a-long style that we knew and loved. Could It Be Forever ? No it was just those wonderful, memorable 70s years that mean a lot to us 30 or 40 somethings, and How Can I Be Sure ? Thanks David ! You wrote or sang the songs that made Us Young Girls Cry and Old Women Happy !!

5 out of 5 stars I think I loved it!   February 25, 2004

How is it I can hardly remember what I did yesterday, and yet could remember every word of nearly every track on the album?!brIf I had try to write a list of David Cassidy songs I would have struggled to make more than four, and yet once the music started it all came rushing back to me!This is warm nostalgia at its best, and I use the album like medicine- I only have to put it in the CD player to feel so much better. Beautiful voice conjuring beautiful memories. Thanks David!
