Amazon.co.uk Review ILenny/I kicks off like ISaving Private Ryan/I with a bristling short, sharp attack of power rock in "Battlefield of Love". Then ILenny/I does what Lenny Kravitz always does and swings us all over the place. "Yesterday Is Gone" is IDefinitely Maybe/I-era Oasis complete with nasal vocal, "God Saves Us All" sounds like a Slade production, "You Were In My Heart" echoes Massive Attack and "Bank Robber Man" could be Blondie. Elements of Timbaland style RB flicker in and out of "Believe In Me" and "Pay To Play", but this is perhaps Kravitz's most retro album to date. He's such an experienced songwriter and producer that he can craft well-made tunes with his eyes shut, and there are good tracks aplenty on ILenny/I (particularly the hook-laden "God Save Us All" and the chant-able single "Dig In"). There's just the nagging feeling that Kravitz still hasn't found what he's looking for. He's got the look, he's got the talent (Kravitz produced the album himself and played most of the instruments), he's got the $9 million mansion in Miami and the nose ring but he hasn't got the power to inspire millions in the way a group such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers can (which is the sort of territory Kravitz is aiming for). Only "Stillness of Heart" comes up to this kind of emotional expectation, a powerful ballad of self-examination that exposes Kravitz for who he is. I--Jake Barnes/I

Lenny The Rock Roll King October 30, 2001 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have seen many great bands live, but of my 2 times seeing Lenny Kravitz perform were by far the most satisfying.pI have been eagerly anticipating this album for 3 years now. The Greatest Hits I don't consider an album. pLENNY, this album rocks. He has once again evolved, this time progressing into pure rock and roll. Great drums and guitar, not sounding raw but less studio enhanced than 5 was. 5 was a very commercial album, with soul, dance and rock but LENNY has more rock than anything else, all but eliminating the dance. There are still the classic soulful ballads, but LENNY is essentially good rock.pI was not dissappointed! The tracks that stood out most on the first listening sessions are: Battlefield Of Love, Bank Robber Man, Stillness of Heart and Dig In. If you love Lenny you'll love LENNY!
Lenny is a great album!!! November 5, 2001 Jono Beagle (jonobeagle@hotmail.com) (London) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This album, is up their with his best productions. It has all sorts of different sounds, but all can be classified as pure rock. With a strong base, crazy lead, and very singable lines, anybody who loves Lenny Kravitz as much as i do, will love this song. Look out for: 'Battlefield of Love' 'Dig in' 'if i could still fall in love' and 'BANK ROBBER MAN' brings back memories of 'MR CAB-DRIVER' pDefinately one of his more pure albums, along with CIRCUS and LET LOVE RULE.
Let Lenny Rule! September 20, 2002 Joanne Jakma 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
L Kravitz has definately progressed with his music from the days of "Circus", "Mama said" and "Are you gonna go my way".pHowever a lot of this CD is still typical Lenny K. His style of singing is immediately recognisable and a lot of his musical styles remain the same so don't worry the old Lenny is not gone and we don't want him to be either!pNo it's the same old Lenny but with some new funky bits here and there. As usual I find that his music has somewhat of an oldtime rock beat to it combined with some more hard rock styles in the guitar. p"Battledfield of love","God save us all", "A million miles away", "dig in" and "yesterday is gone" could be tracks from his older CD's. "Lets Get high", and "Bank robber man" (which has police sirens in it!) are reminiscent of the "Let love rule "album". pNot so typical tracks are: "Pay to play" and "If I could fall in love" which have real funky beats and a very cool rhythm. "You were in my heart" sounds kind of dancy but in a good way. This one sounds very dramatic. p"Believe in me" again funky beats and an amazing track. This one shows you just what a great voice he has!br"Stillness of Heart" is tyical Lenny but definately one of his best.p"Lenny" is a very appealing cd to listen to. I have it now about a week and I have listened to nothing but this cd for the past week! brAmazing to think this guy does all the music himself!
really a great album March 12, 2002 jezz_d@hotmail.com (London England) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was not impressed by this album on the first listen, for me it was one of those albums you grow to love. Having been brought up on just his greatest hits, this is far more mellow, and without those big powerfull riffs. You learn to apreciate his great voice, and mastery of his instruments. All his talent transfered to beautiful rock songs, rather than just damn good ones, brilliant, but I didn't get it straight away, now I cant stop listning to it.
My best Album February 13, 2002 matt2302@hotmail.com (wigan, england) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Lenny is an amazing album and the use of the word amazing is for the right reasons.pThe way he expresses his thoughts and feelings in his music is in a way no other band, singer has ever done.pThoughts and feelings he describes you come to realise are inside you to but you never thought you could describe them in such a way but now when you hear songs such as belive in me and stillness of heart you will realise how the words he says mean so much.pIts so damn annoying though how he doesnt have this affect on the charts and doesnt have everyone loving him and wanting more of his music because it just its fair and one day he should get the attention he deserves fro some fabulous music he has produced over the years.pEveryone has heard of Fly Away and thinks its great but the songs he creates master this even further with love songs and fast like digin.pIl say it once and that should be enough Buy it now if you dont listen now you never will and you will be the one who missed out.
