Another great one from BNL April 25, 2002 bree (Cambridge, UK) 28 out of 29 found this review helpful
Despite the fact Barenaked ladies have had very little promotion over here since the release of 2000's album "Maroon", they do have a solid and ever-growing fan base in the UK.pDisc One: All Theirs Greatest Hits (an 'injoke' if you are familiar to BNL and the "Gordon" album) is a perfect starting point for new BNL fans. It contains tracks from all of their studio albums, including live versions, single versions (such as The Old Apartment) along with 4 tracks not on other BNL albums: The new songs "It's Only Me (The Wizard of Magicland)" and "Thanks That Was Fun" are a taster of things to come, while the songs "Get In Line" and "Lovers in A Dangerous Time" (A reworking of the Bruce Cocburn classic) have not previously been available on BNL releases.pIn my eyes BNL can do no wrong, and if they get the promotion they deserve next time round, then a whole new generation is going to be exposed to in my opinion the best band in the world. Period! Oh, and if you get the chance, I reccommend checking them out live, it's not to be missed!!
Warning You may become addicted like me! September 4, 2005 Mr. S. Jessup-peacock (Canvey Island) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I Purchased this album in febuary of 2005, (after seeing the video of 'One Week' again and remembering how much I loved it) and only 3 months later I had bought every single album in the Barenaked Ladies back catalougue! This album of course is the best of them, and the reason I Became addicted. p'The Old Apartment' starts of the album and became an immediate favourite. Another Immediate Favourite is 'Brian Wilson'. The Version on this album from their Live Album 'Rock Spectacle'. The Ladies show their quirkiness with tracks Like 'Be My Yoko Ono' and 'If had a Million Dollars'. They also show their emotional side with the only song that has ever brought a man-tear to my eye, 'What a Good Boy'. Non Barenaked Ladies fans may recognise 'It's all been done'. Not only because it was a hit over here, but also because it has featured in a few TV adverts! pWith 2 new songs and arguably the best from their back catalougue. This is a Great CD for anybody who loves great music.
Amazing collection of the best BNL songs yet December 24, 2001 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I can't really disagree with what everyone else has said. The songs on this CD are superb, with such a huge range of music styles. Personally, I would have replaced Yoko Ono with Life, In A Nutshell (fabulous song)but with music of this quality that's not exactly a major quibble. pWiity, funny, and clever lyrics combined with smashing music of all types - how can this album fail? brBuy it. Please. brYou'll like it.
a great collection of a relatively 'publicly forgotten' band January 5, 2002 wazpb@aol.com (cambridge, UK) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
From the moment the album arrived on my doorstep i just could not stop myself from playing it. Every song brought back fond memories of the first time i heard it. Every track is a real 'BNL' treat to every fan. My only down point for the entire album is that the print in the sleeve was a bit too small to read in one go. It had a great history of each of the tracks and gave you a real feeling of actually getting to know the band as a collective and also as individuals....END
Will Britain Finally Learn To Love BNL Now ??? November 19, 2001 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Just in time for the mad christmas market, Canada's own BNL release their first Greatest Hits compilation. Covering work dating from their first album Gordon with tracks such as Enid, Be My Yoko Ono,and the eponymous live version of Brian Wilson. BNL take us up to date with releases from Maroon and a few unreleased tracks thrown in for good measure.brHopefully with this release, the band mainly associated with the funky rap of One Week, will also be able to show to a wider audience that they can really rock (Old Apartment), as well as croon with the best of them (What A Good Boy).brAlthough if it's the improv style that their live shows really capture that the audience is hoping for, then including other classics such as If I Had $1,000,000 will keep everyone happy.brAs with any real fan there will always be the odd omission that you wish was here, in my case the track Break You Heart, Steven Page's vocal magnum opus from 1996's Born On A Pirate Ship album is the one I'd have love to see here, although Life, In A Nutshell and Hello City might also have made it on. Even still, I'm sure that with the quality on offer here, old and new fans alike will still enjoy this first of what I'm sure will be a series of Greatest Hits albums has to offer.brIf there's one album to buy this Xmas, then make it BNL's first hits album, if you feel wild, then go out and buy all the rest of their back catalogue too. Have fun.
