Amazon.co.uk Review He's been a cowboy and a pimp and an American bad-ass, but now Kid Rock is just plain ICocky/I: it's nice to know that fame, fortune and the envy of millions have allowed him to be the proper rock star he's always wanted to be. There's no real change from his breakthrough album IDevil Without a Cause/I, then; ICocky/I is another hard-partying mix of hard rock and hip-hop, backed once again by his Twisted Brown Truckers (including DJ and star-in-his-own-right Uncle Kracker). If anything, the Kid's now taken his act farther South, mixing in the delta blues (no really, it's there in "Drunk in the Morning"), country music (realising, quite rightly, that one can never have too much pedal-steel guitar) and Dixie-fried rock (he even samples Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird" on "You Never Met a Motherfucker Quite Like Me"). And, at times, the Kid even starts to act his age, though we all always knew he'd grow old disgracefully. So while for the most part the lyrics still follow the same themes (women, booze, money, his general greatness), there are glimpses of genuine introspection that leak through on songs such as "Picture" (with, of all people, Sheryl Crow) and "Lonely Load of Faith". It doesn't stick, though; once a Kid, always a Kid. Fortunately, there's nobody who does it better than him. I--Robert Burrow/I

The best album to date November 20, 2001 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Man, I listened to this CD as soon as I got it, and is is sooooooooo good. I am so suprised that Kid Rock isn't that big in England, because he is really unique. br'Cocky', the title track, is one of my favourites and in no time you can be sure to be singing along to all the songs.brThe style is a mixture between previous albums, 'devil without a cause'and 'History' and has a feel of Uncle Kracker in there too.brThe likes of Sheryl Crow and Snoop Dog make an appearence.brThe album is just the best, buy it!...and then buy all his previous albums too!!
KId Rock back at his best! January 5, 2003 Mr. C. Watmore (England) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
After the huge success of Devil Without a Cause, I was shocked at his second album History of Rock, which was quite poor and lacking the quality of songs that made his first album good. Cocky though is a return of his best work, and an album that sees a slight change in his music style. The hip-hop rock is still there but there are also more ballard type songs in the Only God Knows Why mold. The album starts off in usual Kid Rock fashion with the upbeat rapping, rocking and ranting songs like Forever and Cocky, but I prefer the songs later on the CD such as Drunk in the Morning, Lonely Road of Faith, Midnight Train to Memphis (With a nice Kid Rock twist at the end) and the Duet with Sheryl Crow 'Picture'. I like how on songs like Drunk in the Morning, What I learned out on the road, and Midnight Train to Memphis how he switches from the ballardy song into his usual raprock style and it doesn't seem out of place. When you line up Kid Rock's albums you certainly see a progression in his music and also in his maturity. I can't wait to see what his next album will be like.

After buying Devil without a cause and the history of rock I was quite suprised when I first listened to Cocky. Its not as heavy as the other two albums but the softer songs: Picture, Lonely Road of faith and what I learned out on the road are the best songs on the album. Its got something for everyone and if you own the other two albums you've got a great mix of rock, rap and southern rock. Best three albums I've brought.
Kid Rock has done it again November 22, 2001 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
WOW!!! Kid Rock has done it again! Bobby Ritchie is back and despite all odds has made an album that I think will be more successful than the 'Devil Without A Cause.' Kid Rock has managed to stay off the nu-metal bandwagon that has taken the world by storm so recently, instead of following this route, Rock has taken a step backwards towards more southern rock [similar to 'Only God Knows Why' from the album 'Devil Without a Cause']than his more traditional new-age rock. Many tracks on this album are similar to some of Rock's older albums but never-the-less Rock always seems to add a new edge and makes all of his tracks sound top quality! Rock has teamed up with some big names in this album. He teamed up with the great Sheryl Crow and also the living rapping legend Snoop Dogg. Rock's track with Snoop Dogg proves to everyone that he can put vocals to just about any form of music including returning to the days of 'Grits Sandwiches For Breakfast' trying some different mixes with a lot of Hip-hop vocals. Rock had more inspuration for this album after the band's great member Joe C [Joseph Calluja] passed away later last year. The band pose in the inlay of this album with new tatoos in deducation to the little man. Rock and Twisted Brown Trucker have made an album of top quality with such singles as 'Forever' due to be released in the near future, Cocky is set to make it huge all of the world. After seeing Kid Rock perform live in Brixton earlier this year I was dissapointed to find he'd left the song 'If I Were President' out of this album, however be set to see this song in future albums. This album is a MUST BUY for everyone who like's real music, as Rock has quoted may times If it looks good , you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll here it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But... if it's real you'll feel it I felt this album right in my heart and I had goosepimples everytime Rock mentioned Joe C. if you've felt like that about Rock's previous albums you better were a scarf as this one gives you goosepimples to such an extent it hurts.

Kid Rocks seens to have become a bit soppy since he began to go out with Pamala Anderson and this shows in his latest CD Cocky. A lot of the CD is heavy metal, the kind you'd find in Deval Without A Cause but alot of the songs resemble Uncle Krackers style of slow music with a bit of DJ-ing added in. But overall this is a great CD that any Kid Rock fan will enjoy.
