Amazon.co.uk Review
These days she's fodder for tabloids and late-night comics, but way back in the 1990s Mariah Carey reigned as one of the world's bestselling female performers. This two-CD IGreatest Hits/I collection offers up chart-topping evidence why, for better or worse, Mariah's five-octave, pop/RB styling set the diva standard. Culled from her five albums on Sony, (before signing to Virgin), and you get all the facets of her platinum-plus sound. From the soulful smoulder of her 1990 debut "Vision of Love" (still one of her best tracks), to the coyer than thou duet with Jay Z ("Heartbreaker"), Carey thrills, trills and hits notes that only canines comprehend. Fans will gobble this collection up but inclusion of some of Carey's more adventurous remixes (eg: the Puffy produced "Fantasy", featuring ODB) might have made this package more noteworthy. 5 out of 5 stars Mariah Mania!!!   August 15, 2002

What is left to be said about the superlative Mariah Carey, except that this is truly the greatest, greatest hits album ever! If like me you are constantly astonished by her extraordinary vocal range, the stunning high notes, the tonsil tearing coloratura and phenomenal power, you will love it. Indeed, half way through this and you will believe that other divas like Whitney Houston sound more like Sonia in comparison! Particularly good is emotions. Totally reminiscent of the late great and almost as high, Minnie Ripperton.pEnjoy a fantastic package, from the the greatest singer on the planet.

5 out of 5 stars The Best album from one of the best singers   July 17, 2003

When Mariah came on to the scene in 1990, it was clear she was on her way to being one of the all time greats, that year she grabbed two grammy awards. The Greatest hits confirms that we were right about her, this album is extrodinary and many of these singles were number one in the States. It starts very well with Mariahs stunning number one "Vision of Love" which seems like a cross between a beautiful ballad and a chillout song. If you want to dance then you would do best to listen to the fun hip-hop sound of "Honey" (Another US number one), at first this was my favourite Mariah song. There are some other dancy sort of songs that any fan of amazing vocals would like, these include "Heartbreaker" featuring Jay-Z, "Always Be My Baby, "Fantasy" and "Emotions".br However if you are like me you'll prefer the stunning ballads such like "Hero" (Again, it was a US number one), "Against All Odds" featuring Westlife and Mariah even convinced the greatest singer of all time (In My Opinion),Whitney Houston, to sing a song with her, they sang the song "When You Believe" which was the soundtrack for "The Prince of Egypt". My favourite Mariah song is certainly "Without You" a powerful ballad about the pain of a break-up, something that many songs were written about and none bring a tear to your eye like this one.br After hearing this album and you're still not conviced of her talents then you should know that she writes her own songs, talented or what. Her acting may have been critisized but her singing and songwriting have made Mariah one of the biggest legends of music.

5 out of 5 stars Must have for any Mariah fan!   December 1, 2001

This is mariah at her very best. Not only do you have the powerful ballads to show off her enormous range but also the more rb based tracks that show a different side to Mariah. This has something for everyone and is an excellent compilation of her finest songs. No true fan should be without it!!!!!Choosing her greatest hits would be a task for anyone but they have chosen well and have produced another excellent album from the queen of pop.

5 out of 5 stars A great showcase for Mariah's artistic growth!   December 2, 2001

Despite the fact that this album is being released by Sony records, the company she has just parted from to join Virgin, Miss. Carey still had control over what tracks she wanted to include on this album. Now, most Carey fans will know that it wasn't THAT long ago since 1's (her album of No.1 hits) found it's way onto shelves, however THIS album is a collection of songs that Mariah deems her best work, and not necessarily songs that were big hits or even released as a single at all in some countries. Yes I know the album title says 'Greatest Hits', but let's not nit pick here!. Hence, we have a great testament to one of the best (and most underrated) singer/songwiters around! OK, Mariah CAN get a little too carried away at times with the vocal strainings but hey, I wish I could do that! And her lyrics can be extremely personal and moving at times. So, open your mind, and just listen to THAT voice. brHELPFUL HINT: Remove all glass objects from the room this CD will be played in! (High risk of shattering)

Just a few months ago, I thought Mariah Carey was a really boring and annoying artist. Man, was I wrong or what!brThis is my one and only album of Ms Carey's that I own, and I adore it!brEvery track is either good or excellent, and it really deserved to get further than Number 46 in the charts!
