Amazon.co.uk Review The year 2000 saw the return of the Spice Girls as an entity after a wealth of solo projects, weddings, babies and tabloid headlines. It was inevitable that a couple of years down the line from their previous outing, iSpiceworld/i, things were going to have changed--the girls had grown up from the day-glo, big-shoed, larger-than-life cartoon characters that they'd started out as. iForever/i, therefore, is the sound of the new Spice Girls, slick RB ("Holler", "Right Back At Ya") created by star producer Rodney Jerkins (TLC, Destiny's Child, Janet Jackson), alongside instantly recognisable Spice ballads ("Goodbye", "Let Love Lead The Way"). Slick as it may be, the overwhelming impression is that Spice Girls have lost their magic sparkle--there are no ebullient calls-to-arms like "Spice Up You Life" or "Wannabe", instead it's vocoders and shuffling beats all the way. Melanie C seems to be the most out of her depth in this new environment, with her strident tones (though well-suited to the full-on pop she successfully purveys as a solo artist) sounding completely out of place amongst the soft harmonies. All the things that made the Spice Girls great are gone--the in-your-face attitude, the brash anthems, the ridiculous outfits and the total all-round pop sensibility. Everyone has to grow up eventually, but it's always sad when they forget how to have fun. --iHelen Marquis/i

A TRULY EXCELLENT ALBUM! February 12, 2001 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Firstly, I was never a Spice fan and I was absolutely shocked when I heard this album! The type of music I listen to is RB and when I heard Holler/Let Love Lead the Way I just had to buy this album, and I was not dissapointed. This album is top class pop/RB and it suits the girls very well, although younger fans of the Spice Girls may miss the poppier songs that were on their other albums.Every song is brilliant, although Get Down With Me is slightly weak in places, especially the chorus. My favs are Wasting My Time, Weekend Love, Time Goes By, Tell Me Why, Goodbye and the FANTASTIC Oxygen! The song just takes you to another place and is VERY relaxing! All the girls vocals are excellent with Posh taking more of a bigger role. If Geri was still part of the group when Forever was released, I just don't know how her voice would have fitted in. This album suits ONLY the Spice Girls, infact I can't even see the terrific Destiny's Child sing the songs on Forever better than the Spicies.pDo yourself a favour and buy this album. It is slightly dissapointing that The Spice Girls won't release anymore singles from the album due to poor sales, but everyone MUST Hear the songs that this album offers, YOU NEED THIS ALBUM!!!
THIS CD IS WONDERFUL AND SO ARE THE SPICE GIRLS!!! August 20, 2001 Melanie Townley (BaBySPiCE22002@aol.com) (Sacramento, California) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
All of you who say this album sucks or the Spice Girls suck haven't given them a fair chance. I've been a HUGE fan of the girls since day one, and I can tell they've improved tremendously through the years, and it shows in this album. Even though their music was awesome to start out with, everyone complained they were too bubble gum pop and all their songs sound the same and they're all so annoying. So the girls used this feedback and reached the realization that a group should grow as it gets deeper into it's musical career, so they did. They did what was necessary but at the same time what was natural, so that they could please the changing tastes of music fans at the same time as being who they are and always have been. They're not trying to put on any airs with this CD, they're just being themselves and having a laugh like on the other two so that, even though it is more grown up, deep down it is the same girls we've grown to know and love!!! The album as a whole is very RnB inspired, and it is done wonderfully in that it shows off they're voices, which are very good! There are some great dance songs, some pretty slow songs, and some good ol' fashioned Spice Girl fun! As usual, Scary (Mel B's) unique and brilliant raps are scattered throughout the album in traditiona Spice style. This album definitely flaunts all of the girls talents, and even Victoria gets more singing parts!!! If anything this is their best album yet and, with a bit more promotion, it could have done awesome on the world music market! More power to them, and above all GIRL POWER and STAY SPICE-Y!!!
the girls grow up! August 5, 2007 Mr. Nathan Armstrong 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
after the first two album which were full of sheer pop the girls minus geri released a much more r'n'b grown up album! its a great album and i think they sound a lot better without geri flattening everything vocally! however everyone wanted the album to fail and it did and even the girls gave up on it!

br /track by track
br /
br /"holler" the single that preceded the album is a brilliant bit of dance floor heaven...its so smooth and laid back to perfection! 10/10
br /
br /"tell me why" was to be the next single and remixes where done and promos sent out! but then the girls gave up! i love it...mrs beckham gets more of a vocal than before and delivers it with perfection that should shut her critics up! great vocals by all the girls! although i love it i dont think it would have set the charts alight! 9/10
br /
br /"let love lead the way" the double a-side released along side holler is an epic ballad delivered perfectly 10/10
br /
br /"right back at ya" has the girls hitting back at their critics...showcased on their last tour...the lyrics are great...the song is great...but it sounds a bit flat..its got the sound of a song off the old albums and full of girlpower..but the r'n'b mix leaves is a bit flat...old spice/new sound...7/10
br /
br /"get down with me" is a bit wishy washy..it plods along 5/10
br /
br /"wasting my time" like the song before just plods along 5/10
br /
br /"weekend love" is a ballad..about a one night stand...pretty enough but nothing stunning 5/10
br /
br /"time goes by" is another ballad and again its not a standout track..5/10
br /
br /"if you wanna have some fun" again was promod but without mixes...its got a feel of the first two albums...its a good song but laid back again...6/10
br /
br /"oxygen" is without doubt the standout track of the album..even westlife said it was stunning...its probably the best song they have every recorded...worth buying the album for this track alone...! a simple enough ballad..but every girls vocals are faultless...its like 2 become one" meets "viva forever"
br /
br /emmas vocals are the purest and prettiest they have ever sounded! mel b sounds soulful! melanie c sounds fragile and perfect...victoria delivers the best most breathy vocals of her career! and when it builds to the harmonies..its stunning - emma will stun you to silence! the best song they have ever recorded! one of my favourite songs of all time! thank god geri wasnt there to ruin it...but i do think it may see the light of day on the greatest hits..with her! 100/10
br /
br /"goodbye" the first single without geri and a christmas number one...a beautiful ballad and a spice classic! trust me if you like this you will adore "oxygen" 9/10
br /
br /a great album..a miles apart from the first two...some amazing tracks...some floaters...if it wasnt for "oxygen" it would get 4 stars but with it 100 stars!!!
br /
br /its not "spice" its not "spiceworld" - the pop fizz isnt their but a respectable album with perfect harmonies!

WOW!!!! GR8 NEW SOUND - YOU GO GIRLS October 29, 2000 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
1. Holler: on both spice and spiceworld, the first track was the best uptempo track on the album, not true of forever. despite this, holler is the perfect introduction. this track is funky, modern and spicy. those wicked guitar riffs at the beginning let the crowd know to chear cos THE SPICE GIRLS ARE HERE! 8/10p2. Tell Me Why: way funky. definately the best of the 'rnb' tracks on the album. spice girls, darkchild, let's dance! - a computa voice starts the fun. This has the best funky beat, this is the kinda song missing from melb's album. vic's vocal are spooky and atmospheric. This is what spice 2000 should be, the spice girls have never done rnb before but they've done this style better than anyone has ever done. i'd love to see it done in a really dark, expensive american-style video. dark child takes the bridge with pointless 'uh - uhs', 'come on', 'let's dance', 'wooo', 'spice girls', 'dark child', '2000'. 'Tell me why (oh why), did we end up this way' - cos you're the best band ever girls! 10/10p3. Let Love Lead The Way: I don't know why this was released, it's not the best ballad (weekend love, oxygen and goodbye are all better) but it is a great song anyway. as with a lot of the songs on the album, the second part is a lot better than the first, anyway you know all about this one anyway, on we go... 7/10p4. Right Back At Ya: a very atmospheric, oriental sounding, intro. then comes a shuffling beats and that melody we all know. The lyrics (and the music) are an answer to all the spice girl's critics. emma's vocals dominate and are the most impressive on this track. melb's rap is raw and says it all about - spice critics, westlife?! and girl thing!! this is definately the fans favourite and so it should be! 8/10p5. Get Down With Me: Another appearance from darkchild, not a stand out track but another with a funky beat, bass, strings and carefully structured harmonies. Sounds like a better all saints 1st album filler, unfortunately. Vocals are adequate, but as the rest of the song, don't really stand out. The bridge is more like it - more spicy and melcs ad libs take it a bit higher. I'm afraid this is a bit of a filler! sorry!!!! overall 5/10p6. Wasting My Time: a true rnb number (a tiny weeny bit like melb's 'tell me'). emma leads in very syncopated rhythm, with melc and vic following later. very shuffly beats, destiny's child but spiced! Very girl power vocals; the songs about a girl leaving a guy cos he's - wasting her time! spookily some of melc's later vocals sound kind of like geri's! this song will have you hooked by the end. 7/10p7. Weekend Love: emma starts on this track - lullaby style (la la la la la la) the melody is simply beautiful, i can see the arms waving at a concert! the production is very nice with an instrument (harp????) that i can't identify in the background. If it wasn't for the subject of the song this song would be a spice anthem. And them mel b storms on with a rocky rap:- 'i really don't want you and i really don't care', the climax that follows the rap however is the high point of the song. emma finishes off with more lalalas and you think how far you've been musically in just one song! 9/10p8. Time Goes By: a keyboard intro and a slow drum beat are the backing for this song; which is a more mature 'too much'. melc leads initially with husky, sexy vocals. a gently moving chorus (very much dominated by emma) takes over. the second verse also sees another member (emma) adopting a deep, sexy voice. victoria's vocals in the bridge are some of her best. not a single, and not their best effort of the album. 6/10p9. If U Wanna Have Some Fun: i've yet to hear this one - can't wait though ?/10p10. Oxygen: i fell in love with the 30 second snippet we heard earlier this year. it took me a few listens of the complete song to realise it's their best ever! gentle echoing keyboard and shuffling snare beats provide the best background. melc and emma's vocals are fantastic together in the first half of the song. victoria sounds like a shy little girl in her verse, but with gentle string backing she leads the girls to the second chorus. the chorus is rolling, and gently grows throughout the song. Breathy vocals hide in the bridge. many beautiful tear-jerking climaxes follow, the lyrics also are fantastic ('you're in every breath i take') 10/10p11. Goodbye: this is the perfect end, tear-jerkingly sad and happy at the same time. spice girls are back. spicegirlsforever! 10/10poverall:- 9/10: this album is fantastic! you'll love it and continue to love it forever!!!! the spice girls new direction pays off on most songs with 'tell me why' being a definite single and one of the best rnb productions lately. Forever also holds gems like the downright sweet and funkily scary 'weekend love'. however this album does have one or two duff fillers - 'get down with me' and 'wasting my time' are both in the same vane and to some extend are only held up by the production (particularly 'get down with me'), in my humble opinion 'woman' should be on and 'get down with me' should be off. However this album is not one to be dissed, as it contains one of the best, if not THE best song the spice girls have ever recorded... oxygen. This song is so beautiful and it's just gonna grow and grow on us, it's just fantastic. Goodbye finishes the album off perfectly - this spice albums holds allsorts of gems and is, dare i say it, their BEST!p------------------p...and you thought the spice girls were over!
How could you not love this album? November 14, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this CD the 1st day it came out. HELLO! It's the Spice Girls... I HAD to. I am VERY happy w/ it. Who says they're trying to sound like anyone else? Besides, I love Destiny's Child, but they didn't write their own songs and the Spice Girls did. They a being themselves, a little RB doesn't mean they're any different! The songs are great. The ballads are very beautiful. Don't listen to the nasty reports because they are just stupid! If you're a true fan, you'll definitely want it anyways... But if you are new, TRUST ME ON MY OPINION!
