Simply stunning!!! May 6, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Frankly speaking, I know only a couple of French words and I have never liked French music. But this album is really something! It is very warm and soothing - the voice, the music, everything charms the listener. This is an absolute must-have. It is a rare occasion when all the songs on the album turn out to be GREAT!!!brP.S. I guess she sings about love, but who cares what she sings about. Just relax and get carried away!!!
waw... January 16, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
When i heard that Carla Bruni was to do a record I was very douybtful about what she would do. It's not the forst time that a model tries to be a singer, and usually it turns up being catastropy. But I was really wrong! This debut album is, I think, unbelievable! It's so impressive, she's not only a gorgeous woman, she wrote amazing lyrics and music as well. What's more, she even plays the guitarre! What more do u ask? The result is a lovely quite album. The lyrics are very simple, but the words are beautiful and humble. They flow like a soft river in her sweet voice. According to me, the best french album of 2003.
Clever and touching January 9, 2003 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
For a debut album, this piece of work is almost flawless. Indeed, even the faults themselves contribute to the beauty and touching simplicity of the music. Carla Bruni succeeded in delivering an album worth of the greatest songwriters: she makes the french language hers and gives words a new meaning and new memories. Her feelings, emotions and anecdotes are a gift to us and it's now our turn to make those words ours. Pass the message and the magical world of Carla could be yours too....

This might not be everyone's cup of tea, but in my book this collection is a treasure. Her voice and the simple backing of guitar and strings turns this into pure magic. And her version of Mina's old hit from 1960 "Il cielo in una stanza", i.e. "Le ciel dans une chambre" ("Heaven in a room") is just wonderful. This record is the current #1 CD is France. And I'm sure it will sell all over Europe.
Carla Bruni, Quelqu'un m'a dit March 19, 2004 B. Osborne (Leeds, UK) I ordered this having heard it over the Internet on the French radio station RFM and listened to clips at Amazon.frpIt's one of those CDs that really grows on you especially if you play the accoustic guitar yourself - I've recently sent to Paris for the sheet music and now sing happily along with her (but her lyrics are difficult to translate!)pShe's got an 'earthy' voice, kind of mega laid back. If you like Maxime leForestier, you'll probably like this too.
