Amazon.co.uk Review Nickelback's frontman Chad Kroeger had much to do with this, Theory of a Deadman's self-titled debut. He signed them up, coproduced, and cowrote six of the 10 tracks here, so you'd expect the album to possess similar pop-metal sensibilities to his own million-selling outfit. As it happens, TOAD (oops--there's an unfortunate acronym) are even closer to the pop mainstream. Ostensibly, they're a grunge band. Singer, songwriter and evident main-man Tyler Connolly sounds much akin to Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland, while big guitars churn away in the background. But there is none of Nirvana's punk ethos here, no political conviction, no rage. Connolly's troubles are all with girls, and his band--uninterested in pulverising or surprising the audience--follow the famous Roxette dictum "Don't bore us, get to the chorus". Indeed, they follow it so well that the album's only 36 minutes long. pIt would be wrong to criticise TOAD for what they're not. As a modern pop-rock band, they're well-produced and Connolly has delivered a string of sing-along melodies sure to appeal to the mainstream millions. "Make Up Your Mind" and "Say I'm Sorry" are reasonably explosive, as is the single "Nothing Could Come Between Us", while "The Last Song", with its sweeping strings, is epic pop-rock. This'll be a big hit, for sure. I--Dominic Wills/I

definitely worth a listen September 5, 2002 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Theory of a Deadman are a relatively new band from canada, sounding not entirely unlike Nickelback, but with a slightly heavier sound. Track 1, "Invisible Man", has already been featured on Chad Kroeger's "Hero", and sounds great, but in my opinion, the highlight of this album is undoubtably "Point to Prove".pIn short, if you like Nickelback, this is probably the album for you.
Simply the best April 25, 2004 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
First of all, do not think that theory of a deadman are poor copies ofnickelback. This is not true. TOAD rival nickelback with all of theirsongs, and with 'say i'm sorry', they excel. The music is the same styleas nickelbacks, and even the singers of the two bands sound alike. Itsunfair to say that they copy nickelback. The reason we may say that isbecause TOAD aren't heard of much in britain (unlike nickelback). Irecommend all fans of nickelback by this album, and make them realise thattheory of a deadman are a brilliant band, not clones of nickelback andtheir music should be loved by all!

'Rock Chick' May 17, 2007 'Rock Chick' (Gloucestershire, UK) I've just received this CD recently and have been playing it in my car ever since. I heard about TOAD through recommendations from Amazon and it's definitely my best buy! I love every single track on it and can't wait to get their other album 'Gasoline' too. It's obviuos that Chad Kroeger has had a lot to do with these guys cos they sound very much like Nickelback, which isn't a bad thing in my book.
br /Grinding guitars, great lyrics, great voice......Marvelous rock music!
br /If you like Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Saliva, Three Days Grace, Hinder, Seether....you'll love this.
Excellent March 26, 2009 Peter J. Hodgson (UK) I am a huge fan of these guys ever since three of their songs appeared in the Farenheit game for the XBox! I actually prefer these to Nicklebacks later albums, Theory of a deadman are fresh and every song sounds different I know that sounds like a random statement but in my opinion every other Greenday song sounds the same as does every other Nickleback song on the newer albums...maybe I am tone deaf but thats just me. Theory shouldnt be missed.
