Amazon.co.uk Review
It's hyped up, rush-released to avoid piracy and full of stars--but is Beyoncé's solo album IDangerously in Love/I worthy of all the expectancy? Yes. Her individual break from Destiny's Child has been predicted for the last four years, but IDangerously in Love/I takes advantage of not being hurried. p The first single "Crazy in Love" (featuring apparent fiancé Jay Z) opens the album and sets the quality bar high. Catchy, high octane and so, so now, it's the perfect club song. Then it's down to business with "Naughty Girl", a teasing track built around Donna Summer's erotic "Love to Love You Baby"--Beyoncé goes from soul-pop kid to sexually mature woman in three minutes. p The hip-hop of "Star" has a N*E*R*D feel, with Outkast's Big Boi undoubtedly responsible for pushing the track into rock/funk territory, a little out of the way of usual Destiny's Child fare. Sean Paul, fast replacing Busta Rhymes as the omnipresent guest star, takes over on "Baby Boy", riding a fashionably eastern-flavoured beat (not unrelated to the famous Diwali rhythm) around Beyoncé's vocals. p The ballad with Luther Vandross is tender without overdosing on sugar, while the astrological cut "Signs", with Missy Elliott, is another standout. Closing track "Daddy" finds Beyoncé crooning over a psychedelic piece of jazz funk, taken from cult 1970s artist Shuggie Otis, whom Beyoncé has been citing as an inspiration. Surprisingly, Beyoncé is the last member of Destiny's Child to release a solo album. The wait has been worthwhile. I--Jake Barnes/I

5 out of 5 stars Even better than I expected   July 7, 2003

I was expecting a good album as lets face it she is fantastic. Kicks off with by far one of the best tracks - Crazy in Love. Jay Z gives the album an edge as he features on 2 of the tracks, as does Sean Paul, Missy Elliot and Luther Vandross. 'Signs' is a bit of a dull one as is Naughty Girl but Work It Out and Bonnie Clyde definately make up for it. Nicely mixed album with rnb, gospel, hip hop and jazz all thrown in. Superb.

5 out of 5 stars Destinyýs Child or Solo? Beyconce can do both!   July 24, 2003

From infectious, RnB, hip hop beats from "Crazy In Love" and "Baby Boy" to sweet, laidback, harmonies from "Signs" and "Yes," Beyonce proves she's capable of embarking on a successful timeout from Destiny's Child, and delivering a funky, hip, RnB album! The best songs on the album are:br*Crazy In Love* *Naughty Boy* *Yes* *Signs* *Dangerously In Love* *Bonnie Clyde*br1- Crazy In Love- (10/10) Catchy, one of a kind, debut single shooting straight to #1. Very bouncy with fast, jazzy music, cool lyrics and a memorable chorus. This is definitely one of the BEST songs on the album.br2- Naughty Girl- (9/10) A hiphop influenced RnB track with a very catchy chorus. Very bouncy and it's music sounds minutely similar to "Bootylicious." This song is just about girls having fun, partying being naughty. br3-Baby Boy- (10/10) One of the BEST songs on the album. It's got an eastern ingredient with the drums the backing music. Beyonce's vocals are very good Sean Paul's rapping adds to the eastern flavour, making the song sexy. Hope it's the next single!br4-Hip Hop Star- (9/10) A cool, funky track with a rocky rhythm where Beyonce's vocals are more toned down and light. There's cool rapping on the song, with some great lyrics. br5-Be With You- (10/10) A very laidback, chilled out soulful track. It's about wanting to be with the one you love. Beyonce pulls this track off brilliantly, with the chorus being sung wonderfully. br6-Me, Myself and I- (8/10) This is another laidback, relaxing, soulful track about just being yourself and 'being your own best friend' after a bad experience. A sweet, calm track with nice vocals.br7-Yes- (10/10) One of the BEST songs on the album. A breakthrough, bouncy ballad with amazing, echoing vocals from Beyonce, which at the beginning sound like Brandy's vocals from 'Full Moon.' A great, impressive, catchy chorus.br8-Signs- (10/10) One of the BEST songs on the album. A sugary sweet, chilled out track about all the signs of the zodiac. Beyonce pulls this off fantastically, with great vocals, especially when going through all the signs. Nice input from Missy doing some slow rapping.br9-Speechless- (7/10) A chilled out, soulful ballad but is quite simple, and is one of the longest songs on the album. Not a standout track and surely not the best.br10-That's How You Like It- (8/10) A sugary, bouncy RnB track about loving all your lover's qualities. A bit repetitive but has very sweet lyrics. Nice link up with Jay Z again.br11-The Closter I Get To You- (7/10) Beyonce pairs up with Luther Vandross on this track to create a romantic, soulful ballad. It remains quite plain, but has very nice, warm background music.br12-Dangerously In Love- (10/10) One of the BEST songs on the album. A breakthrough ballad with a slight bouncy, feisty edge. This song has a very cold and sad atmosphere, which I think makes the song even better. Excellent vocals from Beyonce, nice lyrics, and an infectiously catchy chorus. br13-Beyonce Interlude- A thoughtful and warm message from Beyonce to fans. br14-Gift From Virgo- (7/10) A slow, 60s sounding jazzy song, which sounds plain. Not the best track.br15-Work It Out- (8/10) The funky, danceable, 70s disco anthem from Austin Powers 3 can be heard on the album.br16-Bonnie Clyde 03-(10/10) This RnB anthem is about the partnership of a girlfriend and boyfriend. It has a catchy chorus, surrounded with latino guitar strums. It's more down-tempo and mature, but with an edge. Beyonce sings well, and Jay Z does a good job. A great track to have on the album. br17-Daddy-(7/10) A slow, soulful ballad about Beyonce praising her father. A thoughtful track, however it is quite simple and plain, and is not the best song on the album. brThis is a marvellous, satisfying album and I am glad to have bought it! With 17 excellent songs, it's worth it. Any RnB fan and Destiny's Child fan should get it today!

5 out of 5 stars I didnt expect less!!   June 25, 2003

I've been a fan of destinys child since 'no no no' came out and I've been a loyal fan since. The reason is because they've always delivered great music.brA lot of artists can sometimes have less to give when they go solo but this album is very strong. There are no short cuts. This is everything you would expect from a DC album and more. Crazy in love is totally blazing! 'Be with you', 'me myself and i' are more downbeat and ambient soul. theyre both great.brThis album doesn't give as much toothache as the 'survivor' album (not that theres anything wrong with that!). Signs is a duet with miss elliot and missy proves she's a genius producer yet again working with beyonce. another (yes ANOTHER!) duet with Jay-z (thats how you like it) is really suggestive and a bit naughty (if you like that!) its a really cool song. The rest of the album goes on ballad territory with a duet with luther vandross (not as scary as you may think) and a re-work of the survivor album track 'dangerously in love' which is actually a great improvement on the original. her solo album closes similar to the way the other DC albums close with gospel songs and poems. This album has two bonus tracks (previos singles work it out and the brilliant 03' bonnie and clyde) and a hidden bonus track dedicated to her dad and its really nice.brBeyonce's voice and her attitude are just as strong here and anywhere else. listening to it though, you might feel that beyonce has a lot to give in terms of her love life but she's still a strong person. She's fighting and hoping to inspire others in the process. BEYONCE IS GREAT!!

From the first time i heard beyonces remix of in da club wiv 50 cent i was addicted to the beyonce hype and couldnt wait for her album. As soon as it went on sale i rushed out and bought it. The first song which hit me was crazy in love. The song is banging a real 2003 dance song i then skimmed the rest of the songs to get a vibe but was a little shocked when from number 5 onwards they were mainly ballads. BUT as you listen to eevry song individually i was hooked i love lying on my bed listening to it its a really romantic peacful album but then play it from the start and you can groove to jay z and sean pauls duets with her which are fantastic. I love the album and listen to it threw over and over again a must have for every romantic rb lover out there!
