Amazon.co.uk Review With her big voice and soaring melodies, Faith Hill is seen in the UK as a cross between Celine Dion and Shania Twain. But musically speaking (and based upon the evidence on ICry/I), she's far more intriguing than either. Though often concentrating on power ballads (the title track here is another storming example), this Nashville resident has managed to combine country, rock, pop and contemporary RB into an eminently consumable package. p ICry/I sees Hill move into Twain territory, or rather that of Twain's husband and producer Mutt Lange. With the songs such as "One", "If This Is the End" and "I Think I Will", she employs the sweeping guitars and massive melodrama of prime-time Foreigner (one of Lange's earlier successes). In fact, she even ups the ante with her superb backing vocals, "Back to You" in particular possessing an overlapping series of brilliant melodies. There are let-downs: "Beautiful" has Faith spilling spoken-word goo over a Clapton-style guitar solo, "Unsaveable" and "Baby You Belong" are rock throwaways, and "This Is Me" features the fabulously ignorant line "I'm just like everybody else / I try to love Jesus and myself." But all in all this very well produced album is as good as today's mainstream gets. --IDominic Wills/I

Faith is the Future for Country!!! October 31, 2002 Mr. A. Boucher (Hampshire, UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought this album, after I was so impressed by her last album, Breathe (and I must admit I am a big fan of Faith's music), but this album completely blew me away!!! I think that with this album, Faith successfully completes her crossover from Country to rock/pop, and this album has a kind of soft-rock feel to it.The album opens with 'Free', a fun rock/pop song that sounds like nothing Faith has ever done before! 'Cry' is a ballad quite similar to 'Breathe' in the way that it builds up to the chorus. There are also plenty of softer ballads as well, such as 'When the lights go down' and 'You're still here', but Faith shines best in the more rock-sounding songs, as she has a strong voice. 'This is Me' and 'Back to you' are perfect examples where Faith uses her voice to its maximum potential. The two best songs on the album are the song 'Beautiful' (which literally is), with its spoken verses, and 'I Think I will', which starts with an eastern-sound, but builds up into a beautiful slow-burning rock song.Faith proves that she has what it takes with this album, and hopefully we will all be hearing more of her in the future!

WOW! This is one of the best albums of this year with song that make you wanna get up and sing into your hairbrush, and songs that are just really romantic. Songs like "One" really show her vocal ability and "This is Me" with a really dramatic opening make the album worth every penny. A much more mature album than her last, if this is how her music matures I cant ait for the next one!!

Faith's Best Album!! Amazing!! October 22, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is definately the best album Faith has made so far. This album has even better songs which are more powerful and catchy than on her previous. The style of the songs isn't exactly country, more quality pop with a hint of country. Faith's voice makes each song come alive and really stay with you. If your expecting songs of the same quality as 'Cry' you won't be dissapointed, all of the songs on this album are good, there's no 'fillers' each one a possible single I think. If you liked Faith's previous albums, you'll definately like this album. And if you haven't brought any of her albums before, this is a great one to start off with - her best yet!
Excellent! October 20, 2002 Mr. S. Adams 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Finally received Cry today and was pleasantly surprised.br brI understand the comments that she has moved further away from her country roots, although to be fair the last truly country album she released was It Matters To Me. However to me the album clearly falls into the country music category. Or at least it belongs in the category as much as Breathe, Come On Over or Sara Evans' Born To Fly. Take the track This Is Me..although it has a rockier feel than one would expect from your average country song the lyrics and vocals are as country as they get! pUnsaveable falls into the same category as This Kiss and Martina brMcBride's I Love You. Just as catchy and just as worthy. br brWhen The Lights Go Down is clearly the standout track. I think in some ways it is reminiscent of Breathe. The same kind of breathy vocals to begin with building up to one of those huge choruses that Faith Hill is so great at. pThe closing track You're Still Here is gorgeous. A completely new sound...the last time I heard a Cor Anglais used in a non-classical piece was on the Carpenters' Greatest Hits. The effect is spine tingling. pOther standout tracks are Cry and One. pWhether this is a country album or not is a matter or opinion. It is a fresh sound that fits into more than one category. I do however dispute that this album has no "songs". Indeed many of the writers have worked with Faith Hill on her last two albums. br brAll in all I think Faith Hill has released a great album...maybe not for the die hard country fan but certainly worth a listen. It is certainly a classier more sophisticated package than any Shania Twain release.
