19- Carat Gold for Blondie October 22, 2002 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Yes, another Blondie (19-tracks) Greatest Hits compilation and Atomic (the very best of Blondie) is still selling. Why you may ask? First of all this compilation contains Blondie's most recent number one hitsingle: MARIA! Besides that all tracks are re-mastered and sounds as fresh and sparkling like if they were recorded in 2002! They re-mastered the beautiful "Best of Blondie" mixes of In The Flesh, Heart Of Glass, and the Anglo/French version of Sunday Girl. Furthermore the U.S. single killer The Hardest Part is included! Those are not to be found on the Atomic (very best of..)pO.K. one point to go: this compilation does not include Fade Away Radiate and I'm gonna love you too. But for these songs you can consider to buy Parallel Lines (Blondie's multi-platinum selling studio album)which is completely re-mastered last year!
Only hits singles on this cd!!! October 30, 2002 K. Eisenberger (Defiance, Ohio United States) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
As the owner of probably every Blondie collection known to man (and there have been many over the 20 years since "The Best Of Blondie" was released in 1981). This cd is the same cd that was released in the US with a different cover but same contents. This cd features no b-sides or remixes or hidden rare vault stuff or live tracks but only hit singles. This cd features Blondie's 7 number one singles from the US and UK :"Heart Of Glass" (UK and US),"Sunday Girl" (UK),"Atomic"(UK and US dance charts in 1995,"Call Me"(UK and US),"The Tide Is High"(UK and US),"Rapture"(US ) and "Maria" (UK). You also get the classic singles from their first lp of "In The Flesh","X Offender" and "Rip Her To Shreds". From Plastic Letters- "Denis" (#2 in the UK) and "(I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence,Dear (# 10 in the UK). From Parallel Lines - "Hanging On The Telephone" (#5 in the UK),"Picture This"(#12 in the UK),and "One Way Or Another" (#24 in the US only). From Eat To The Beat the classic "Dreaming"(#2 in the UK and #27 in the US),"Union City Blue" (#13 in the UK) and "The Hardest Part" (#84 in the US).And also included is the last US top 40 single "Island Of Lost Souls"(#37 in the US). All classic songs from one of the most important bands that ever graced the planet Earth. If you think No Doubt or Madonna are an original idea then listen to Debbie and the guys and find out where all this music came from. Deborah Harry is GOD!
BLONDIE'S COMPLETE COLLECTION October 5, 2003 Marissa (London, UK) 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
Blondie's Greatest hit's is just about the best that any artist can offer. From Punk to Funk to Techno Rock to Pop, Blondie has put it all here for you, no less than a dozen plus hits. Blondie were the #1 Selling band on the planet from 1978-1981, giving us ground breaking rock, including "Heart of Glass, Rapture and Atomic". They were also the first artist to release a Video Album for their 1979 album "Eat to the Beat". Blondie also gave Hip Hop the break it needed, when "Rapture" was the first ever #1 Rap song, as was "The Tide is High" the first #1 Reggae song that millions around the world ever heard.pQuick break down on several stand out tracks:pDreaming: Probally Blondie's best written song, an absolutely wonderful rock classic.pCall Me: One of the biggest songs ever charted, great Techno Rock, with delicious lyrics. The song that defined the 1980's.pOne way or another: The great punk stalker track, hard driving beat.pHeart of Glass: The Techno Rock Disco song that sold millions of copies and made Blondie the Super Group they are still today.pRapture: Ground Breaking, lyrics are great fun and the music score is just awesome, a really super cool song.pAtomic: The most sensual song ever to chart, just hypnotizing lyrics. Deborah Harry is the God of Rock.pDenis: Pure Bilingual magic, Deborah Harry is just fantastic!pSunday Girl: Sweet, just like Ice Cream.pMaria: The #1 comeback Smash. It had New Wave 1979 written all over it, but surprise it was 1999. Incredible comeback song.
HIT CITY! December 3, 2002 Pieter (Johannesburg) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is the best Blondie hits compilation by far; the hits are however not arranged chronologically which makes it impossible to chart the development of the sound. But that doesn't matter - this collection demonstrates the band's versatility - compare their early punk-pop Rip Her To Shreds or X Offender with the hypnotic synthpop-disco of Heart Of Glass or Atomic! My favourites include the wistful I'm Always Touched and the bilingual Denis (a classic slice of sixties pop), as well as Tide Is High with its percolating reggae rhythm, plus Sunday Girl (more lovely 60's pop). In my opinion, their best albums are Parallel Lines and Plastic Letters, and these are well represented with 6 of these gorgeous 19 tracks. I wouldn't call this a "Best Of" since there are some album tracks that I like more than some of these hit songs. These include Fan Mail and Bermuda Triangle Blues from Plastic Letters and Fade Away And Radiate from Parallel Lines. But this was never intended to be anything else but a greatest hits collection and serves its purpose very well. It just goes to show that classy pop music is timeless, and Blondie always had that special something, whatever the style they chose to do it in.
Blondie heaven on one CD! 'Nuff said August 22, 2003 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Blondie#8217;s #8216;Greatest Hits#8217; is absolutely fantastic. This brilliant compilation album provides the perfect portrait of one of the most influential bands of the last 30 years. Every Blondie single is covered here, from the early days (#8216;X Offender#8217;, #8216;Denis#8217;) to the household-name years (#8216;Hanging On The Telephone#8217;, #8216;Atomic#8217; etc) to the most recent times (#8216;Maria#8217;). There is not one bad track- all of them are individual masterpieces. Whether it#8217;s a pop song like #8216;Denis#8217;, a slow song like #8216;In The Flesh#8217;, a disco/dance song like #8216;Atomic#8217; or an all-out rock song like #8216;Maria#8217;, the standards of the lyrics and music never, for one second, slip. Nice touches are the remixed or special editions of tracks: an extended version of #8216;Heart Of Glass#8217;, a rare promotional edit of #8216;Rapture#8217; with an extra verse, a special mix of #8216;In The Flesh#8217; and a gorgeous #8216;franglais#8217; (half French) mix of #8216;Sunday Girl#8217;. If you#8217;re new to Blondie or unconverted, this is the first album you should buy.
