Amazon.co.uk Review From his inception as bubblegum-rapper the Fresh Prince in the late 80s, to his later incarnation as the blockbuster figurehead, Will Smith has shown an uncanny aptitude for refining the hip-hop sound of the moment into mostly excellent pop singles that balance family-friendly accessibility with witty pop nous. "Summertime" is probably Will Smith's finest moment--an evocative paean to the sunshine, a laconic Smith cruising the sun-baked streets rapping about "little boys messin' round with the girls playing double-dutch" like a U-rated Snoop Dogg. Never one to shy away from a spot of cross-media promotion, this compilation also includes "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air"--the theme-tune to the US sitcom of the same name--as well as all the glitzy pop hits that fronted Smith's celluloid outings: the great "Men In Black", the good "Wild Wild West", and the frankly dodgy "Black Suits Comin". Curiously, the only notable omission is UK No.1 "Boom! Shake The Room"--the track recorded with DJ Jazzy Jeff that heralded the duo's second commercial wind. That complaint aside, however, a sturdy collection from this populist rap champion. --ILouis Pattison/I

Big Willie Style December 27, 2002 Seamus Connor 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Will Smith DJ Jazzy Jeff are perhaps the men who did the most to bring rap hiphop to the forefront of mainstream music. This compilation basically summarises all of their greatest hits (except 'Boom! shake the room') and some new songs.pWe see Will in his earlier days with catchy angst songs such as girls aint nothin but trouble, but there was no swearing or shocking imagery, no violence, such as featured in popular bands of the time such as N.W.A.brWe see his transgression to big film soundtracks - as ever with catchy hooks - and to straight party tracks such as Miami.brThe worst track is the insepidly soppy 1000 kisses with Will's wife Jada. But programme your CD player to skip this and your in for a fine walk down memory lane of summers gone by.brOne thing Will has always been able to do is stay popular, and change his style to suit the market, always coming up with catchy lyrics and pop hooks, that mad your mum actually think a rapper was cute. No mean feat!brHe may not have the best street cred. but there is no doubting what Will has done for hiphop and pop music. Most of the songs on the album will be familiar to listeners and within a few times of hearing them are garunteed to have you singing along!
Excellent December 28, 2002 Mr Owen J D Brown (Edinburgh, Lothian, United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you like Will 'Big Willy' Smith or for that matter funky, easy going hip-hop then this is a must buy. The album includes Will's greatest and most memorable hits from the last 15 years. My personal favourites are the theme tune to 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air', the great living it up 'Gettin' Jiggy Wit it' and the totally chilled out flavour of 'Summertime'. There are a number of featured artists on the album such as Dru Hill and K-Ci and some less well known singers for example his wife Jada, Christina Vidal and the totally new voice of Tra-Knox, who is outstanding. The album will have you 'Freakin' It' and nodding ya head to Will's wonderful, parent freindly lyrics. In my opinion this is a totally awesome production from the coolest guy in Pop. Buy it!!!!

you cannot dislike this mans music he uses a simple rap style with such simple lyrics but this makes the song even more catchy as it makes it very easy for you to sing along and listening through this album you'll derfinatley remember all those summers you spent singin along with the catchy lyrics of one of the most succesful actors comedians and musicians of all time this is a must have album.
Will smith is the greatest September 3, 2006 john higginbottom (UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
WOW what an album!!!! ive loved hip hop since i first heard vanilla ice in the early 90's and i own sum absolute classic hip hop albums now from reasonable doubt to illmatic but this is just something else will smith has got to be the best rapper of all time!! his flow is so fluent and smooth and where most other hip hop artists tend to rap about guns, hustling and money all the time,Big willy mixes it up and can just as easily rap about having a boogy in a night club but he raps in such a menacing way you have to take him seriously, when big willy takes the mic you know that hes got something to say and he says it all right, every will smith record on this album from gettin jiggy with it to miami takes you on a emotional journey, his voice so full of anger you really feel his lyrics more so than say Nas or even Pac, if your in to hip hop quite simply Big Willy is your man....
Is There Any Stopping Him!! December 9, 2002 Trevor Howard (Bures, England) What can you say when one of raps biggest and best stars release a greatest hits album? This album is immense 15 A1 tracks from Will Smiths glorious past. It goes from the brilliant 'Girls Aint Nothin But Trouble' through to the genius of 'Just The 2 Of Us' everything between is great. If you cannot listen to the album through how do you pick? Its a hard but always rewarding choice! You've heard all the tracks before but they are always so fresh and there is nobody like him. You put this album and it instantly cheers you up, this mans wit and clever word play puts a smile on the saddest of faces. In the world of gangsta rap this man is dissed for not being a hater or needing every other word to be bleeped out on the radio but he does not need to, he's had worldwide success without following the trend. Tracks such as 'Nightmare on My Street' 'Parents Just Don't Understand' are taken from his Fresh Prince days and offer fun tracks and could come straight out of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. You then have his more recent hits such as the great summer tune 'Miami' the bouncing flow of 'Gettin Jiggy Wit It' and his latest cut '1000 kisses' which show different sides to his character, his fun loving side and his sensitive side. His tracks from film are also on here but its the remix of 'Black Suits Coming' which is a shame because the orginal is superior. If there is any downside to this album it is that it does not contain the number 1 party anthem 'Boom Shake The Room' which is one of his best tracks. We have just got to pray that because he has released his greatest hits album he does not decide to call it a day music wise and concentrate on films. It would be a great loss to the music industry.
