Good Charlotte's frontmen, MTV hosts Joel and Benji Madden, had two major concerns with IThe Young and the Hopeless/I. One is that, despite the piercings and the spiky hairdos, people do not consider them "real" punks. The other is that their father left them when they were 16. Actually, the two dovetail quite neatly as it was their father's departure that sent their family spiralling into poverty, thus presenting the brothers with their tough "street" background (as well as the lyrics to the bouncy, tribal "The Story of My Old Man" and the maudlin, more gentle "Emotionless"). Musically speaking, though one line in "The Anthem"--"I'm just a minor threat"--points to a hard-core influence, the filth and the fury of punk are not in evidence here. Rather, Good Charlotte lean towards the sunny, chanting power-pop of the lighter Huntingdon Beach outfits. Nevertheless, with the title track and the aforementioned "The Anthem", the band appeal directly to high-school outsiders, and address their perennial relationship problems with "Wondering" and "Say Anything". They even find space for the comedy-horror of "My Bloody Valentine". So, they're not as intense or enraged as Black Flag, or even Linkin Park, but their undeniably strong melodies will see them sell millions to the young and mildly peeved. I--Dominic Wills/I

I only just got into good charlotte about a month ago but i loved all the songs on this album and their other albums as soon as i heard them. The lyrics actually mean something and they are not making any thing up just to make money unlike other bands around today!! I don't really care if people say their not punk or whatever cause the bottom line is their music is gr8!! Emotionless, The Anthem, Girls and Boys, The Young and The Hopeless and Hold On are all my fav tracks on the album. I would recommend it to anyone who does'nt care on what they look like or if they are punk or not just if they want to hear some good music!!!! Every song on this album is worth listening to!!brGood Charlotte Rocks!!!

i think this album is amazing! Good charlotte were the first band i loved and if you like pop/punk with catchy tunes, i really recomend this to you. it is a great album throughout.

I found this album fantastic.pThis is how i rate the tracksp1. A New Beginning - Good instrumental music 6.5/10p2. The Anthem - Good Song with a catchy chorus 8.5/10p3. Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous - This song has become a bit to cliche for me. Nice Chorus but not as catchy as The Anthem 7/10p4. Wondering - Loved this had me singing it constantly along with a few other songs. Deep in meaning too 9/10p5. The Story Of My Old Man - I could feel the pain in this song from the way it started heavier then towards the end slowed down 7/10p6. Girls And Boys - Very true ask any girl!lol! 8/10p7. My Bloody Valentine - This song was to me was actually very comical great stuff to listen to to cheer you up 8/10p8. Hold On - A LEGEND of a song this was the reason i went out and brought the album what a great song 10/10p9. Riot Girl - My third favorite song on the album very very good 9/10p10. Say Anything - Good track. People say it's the best on the album but it doesn't really do it for me 8/10p11. The Day That I Die - This is great and it's the sort of thing i would do if i new it was my last day to live 9/10p12. Young And Hopeless - The heaviest track on the album 9/10p13. Emotionless - A great meaningful ballad 9/10p14. Movin' On - The second best track after Hold On and also the second heaviest to me it's about lifes journey 10/10pOverall the album out of ten gets 10/10pKeep up the good work GC

i think good charlotte rock especially 'lifestyles of the rich and famous' i recommend it to anyone who likes punky rock. their style is similar to mest and goldfinger. the best song on this album is 'day that i die' which is different from 'lifestyles of the rich and famous' because it is more mellow. the young and the hopeless by good charlotte is an overall great album and good charlotte are one of the best bands i have heard in a long time.

i bought this album after hearing the great "lifestyles of the rich and famous" on TV, i was so astounded by the quality...i knew i had a new favourite band.brHeres a review of every track:br1. a new beginning 7/10brIt is the worst track, but its only an introduction with strange instruments and movie credits feel , represents them as something quite interesting and special.p2. the Anthem 9/10brAn amazing addition to the album, with fast paced guitars and energetic singing. p3. Lifestyles of the rich and famous 10/10brThe debut UK single, with a brilliant drumming introduction and distorted singing voice. the song makes you want to jump like mad.p4. Wondering 9/10brA more softer track than previous gleaming with musical talent. Tremendous and just brilliant.p5. The story of my old man 8/10brOne of the weakest tracks, but still comes through as an enjoyable rocky track.p6. girls and boys 8/10bra different style of music portraying relationships, which is original, distinct and fun.p7. my bloody valentine 9/10bra humourously lyrical song which shows good charlottes best punk.p8. hold on 10/10bra mellow, lifting song, that just makes you turn cold with amazement.
