Cilla's new CD really is lovely. It's hard to realise why there were so many unreleased items. 'When you walk in the room', and 'Fantasy' could have been big hits.brit's also nice to see 'if i could put you in my song' getting the light of day at last.br'I'll still love you' is the ultimate for any Cilla fan. I have waited since 1972 to heaf it, it's a sin it wasn't released, would have been a smash.brAdd to that all the other lovely tracks. The booklet is lovely too.brI will cherish the memories forever, of this British institution, who by the way could still suprise us in the future with new projects.brWayne Edwards, Saudi Arabia

5 out of 5 stars The ULTIMATE Cilla Black Retrospective!   April 16, 2003
Mr. K (UK)

Never before has there been such an extensive overview of both Cilla's album and single recordings, during her recording heyday of 1963-78.pThis 6 month in-the-making project reveals choice cuts from the vaults at EMI (her original record label) as well as 7 unreleased songs. In particular, "I'll Still Love You" written for Cilla by George Harrison finally gets a release, amongst an 80 track musical montage which also features other classic songs penned by other Beatles band members, Paul McCartney and John Lennon.pThis set also comes with a comprehensive booklet featuring 36 sides of biography, track details, rare photos and celebrity anecdotes specially commissioned for this set from the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Sir George Martin, Burt Bacharach, Gerry Marsden, Sandie Shaw to name but a few.pIf you are a lover of British pop music from the sixties and seventies then this truly is Britain's #8220;Original Princess of Pop#8221; at her very best and worthy of a place in your CD collection!

5 out of 5 stars This REALLY IS the BEST of Cilla   April 20, 2003

2003 sees Cilla's celebrating her 40th anniversary in show business, and there will be much activity to mark such a fantasic achievement by one of this country's top stars.pThis compilation provides fans and 'the yet to be converted' with an epic collection that spans Cilla's fifteen year association with EMI. All the big hits of the 60's and 70's are included together with a selection of album tracks and previously unreleased material that make this a really outstanding album.pCilla's 60's albums are well prepresented, the inclusion of 'Everything I Touch Turns To Tears'(from Cilla Sings A Rainbow) makes the album worth buying for this track alone. There are also tracks from 'Cilla' (her debut album), 'Sher-oo!' (1968) and 'Surround Yourself With Cilla' (1969).pCilla's 70's albums were released at the time to coinside with her latest BBC TV shows and they included gems that don't deserve to be forgotten. From the 1971 'Images' album there is the David Gates classic 'Make It With You'and the title track 'Faded Images'- this should have been a single at the time (it was in Australia/New Zealand)with superb lyrics and arrangement not to mention Cilla's superb vocals.pDay By Day With Cilla was released in 1973 and is well represented here by the title track 'Day By Day', often featured on Cilla's TV shows, the stunning 'Winterwood' and an outstanding version of 'I Don't Know How To Love Him', one of the best (if not THE best) covers of the song.pIn 1974 Cilla released the album 'In My Life' which gave us a much more contemporary sounding Cilla. The albums production is brilliant through out and the first album with new producer David MacKay. Here songs from that session include 'Daydreamer' and another three outstanding tracks 'Flashback' 'Everything I Own' and 'Let Him In' These tracks showcase the softer side of Cilla whilst still conveying the emotion of the songs.pIn 1976 Cilla produced her first set of recordings in America for her album 'It Makes Me Feel Good'. Although disappointinly, the title track is not included here there are five songs that give you a sense of the true vocal quality of Cilla's performances during the 70's. 'Heartbeat', I'll Take A Tango', Lay The Music Down' and a fantastic version of the old 60's hit 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' The track that is most outstanding from this session is the ballad 'One Step From Your Arms'. This has got everything going for it, the lyrics, the melody and arrangement and an unforgettable performance from Cilla.pIf all the hits and choice album tracks wasn't enough, there are 7 prevously unreleased tracks from the 1970's. Of particular note - 'Fantasy' released in the USA only as a single in 1976 -was well worth rleasing in the UK and finally sees the light of day on this release. 'If I Could Put You In My Song' was one of three songs especially written for Cilla for her stage revue 'Cilla At The Palace' (1976/77, Victoria Palace, London), maybe considered for a single at the time but for some reason never out out.pThe real gem of this collection is the song written for Cilla by George Harrison. Orginally recorded by Cilla in 1972 and re-recorded in 1975. 'I'll Still Love You' is the most eagerly awated release, the song the fans have been longing to here.pThe 80 tracks included here give you the opportunity to hear the diverse range of material Cilla covered during her 15 year association with EMI. These tracks showcase Cilla's vocal range and abiliy as well as the emotion of her performance. Cilla the singer does not deserve to be forgotten and this collection will go a long way to ensure she isn't. It is also a fitting tribute to her 40 incredible years in show business.

Stephen Munns is to be congratulated and thanked by all Cilla fans for the fantastic job he has done with EMI in getting this released for Cilla's 40th. The track listing is awesome and the blend of 60s and 70s tracks is fantastic. The greatest excitement for Cilla Fans, of course, is the first time release of classic album tracks including incredible vocals on tracks like "Only forever will do" and "Everything I own." On top of this we gain 7 new recordings including electric Cilla performances on "From the inside" "This time I'm in it for love" and "I'll still love you."(Three hit singles clearly missed.)brThis raises the issue of "where next?" It would be nice to see the dire "Surprisingly Cilla" on a budget label and perhaps a "Cilla in the 70's" compilation taking in some of the missing tracks like "Easy in your company."brWhatever, the 26th May 2003 was a great day for Cilla fans! Thanks Stephen.

5 out of 5 stars Truly Outstanding   June 14, 2006

I, like just about everyone else knows who Cilla Black is, I was always intrigued to hear Cilla "the singer" , everyone knows the TV star, but I'd always heard that Cilla was a huge singer in the 60's. br / br /This compilation covers the most important period of her career, and is a collection of some truly outstanding material, it's Cilla's voice that amazes me, I'd heard her sing, admittedly only when she was older on her TV shows, but I'd never imagined the range of her voice, she sounds different on every record, one of the best to highlight this is "Love Letters", which I have to say has to be the best recording of this song I have ever heard, and Cilla's voice is just remarkable - it's so easy to think of Cilla singing "Surprise Surprise" or the like, but this compilation shows the real Cilla, and portrays perfectly why Cilla Black was the UK's biggest female singer. br / br /You dont have to be a Cilla fan to own this, it's not just a showcase of a truly remarkable and distinctly powerful voice, but also a collection of some of the best songs ever written and by some of the best composers. br / br /An absolute must in my opinion. Cilla Black's TV career might have been successful for her, but I think it has done her music a dis-service, because people don't think of her as a singer anymore. This Compilation is the way Cilla Black deserves to be remembered - a fantastic vocalist and huge star.
