Amazon.co.uk Review
Jack Johnson has found himself a groove with IOn and On/I. Indeed, the Hawaiian surfing champion turned alternative pop-folk star really hasn't changed things one iota for his second release. Fans of IBrushfire Fairytales/I should be delighted with the results. The groove is a mellow one--most of the 16 tracks here are semi-acoustic--and that easy-going spirit filters into Johnson's lyrical philosophies. "What will be will be / And so it goes" he sings on "Times Like These", the opening track. Thankfully, Johnson is never too mellow, and there's a "Don't worry, be happy" vibe to most of his music--"The Horizon Has Been Defeated" even has a pseudo-reggae feel to it. Although classified as an alternative musician, the singer-songwriter's compositions owe much to past hits. "Traffic in the Sky" is reminiscent of Jim Croce's "Operator" and Looking Glass's one-hit-wonder, "Brandy". On the splendid "Taylor", Johnson sounds an awful lot like Donovan, and "By the Way" recalls the Lovin' Spoonful. I--Bill Holdship/I

this album is easily as good as any other he has done. Acoustic, well put together, one of my favourites! i cannot believe he hasn#x27;t yet made the impact that he should on British music industry. Please buy this album, I can guaratee you will not regret it. Surfy, chilled out tunes, everyone should have at least a few cd#x27;s with this kind of music on them.

I was given all 3 albums to listen to at the time and the other two stood out alot more then this one. Songs like Better Together and Inaudible Melodies bring you straight into the album with a band whereas Times Like These on this album, doesnt have quite the same effect.pHowever, after listening to the other two albums over and over, I decided to give this another go and I was totally supprised. This isn't an album to listen to if you have never heard anything by Jack Johnson but as soon as you 'get him', this album suddenly makes sense. pI'd say that out of the three, this is probably my favourite now.pTimes Like these, The Horizon Has Been Defeated, Gone, Wasting Time, Dreams be Dreams, Rodeo Clowns and Tomorrow Morning are all great songs although there are none that make you want to skip the track. pGreat album!

I was working in Canada, when a friend of mine was saying about this guy......so, willing to listen to just about anything, I gave it a go. If you work in a stressfull world, then this is the album for you. Just put it on, lay down, shut your eyes while the chilled out voice and amazing acoustic guitar of Jack Johnson mentally relaxes you. Taylor is a personal favourite of mine, a little more lively than the rest, but this takes nothing away from an excellent album.

I was in hospital during a very long stint when a friend gave me this CD . What a profound effect ! At the time I'd not heard of Jack Johnson but listening to his lyrics took me out of my hospital surrounds . Tracks like 'holes to heaven' give a fabulous image that most of us lose from our innocent childhoods . Elsewhere 'Gone' is a wonderful ode against materialism . This album is incredibly thought provoking and I was a Jack Johnson convert after listening to this for a month or so . If it could rescue me from the drudgery of a hospital bed then it can certainly invigourate you from your daily stupor. This album restores that valuable naievety and wonderment that we lose as we grow older and become more cynical .

5 out of 5 stars Mellow music at its best   October 26, 2004

As with many other reviewers on this page, I had never heard of Jack Johnson when I first heard his music and I was quite surprised that the industry had managed to keep such a promising secret.pOn and On, like Brushfire Fairytales, perfectly evokes sunsets on hazy evenings, tropical beaches and campfires. But just as great as this album is to fall asleep to, I've played it many times and just sat and felt happy. Jack's voice is so mellow that it suits the music perfectly.pMy favourite aspect of Jack's music is his lyrics - no repetitive tales of jilted love or booty calls here. Instead we get everything from the media to prevalent social issues such as the tale of a child murderer in the brilliant 'Cookie Jar'.pAnd in a world where increasing amounts of people think the key to happiness is spending hundreds of pounds on clothes, mobile phones and jewellery, it's nice to hear Jack sing 'Look at all those fancy clothes/But these clothes keep us warm just like those' in 'Gone'.pOverall, I don't think you have to be a fan of a particular kind of music to like this cd. It doesn't fall into a category except for generally good music made by an incredibly talented guy.pGo on, click that buy button. You won't regret it.
