Amazon.co.uk Review
IGet Born/I, the debut album by young Melbourne group Jet, works--and works very well--on a couple of levels. The first, and most obvious, is as a lengthy game of "Spot the Riff". Jet seem to have adopted Oscar Wilde's dictum "talent borrows, but genius steals" as their band motto, and as such are not shy about acknowledging their influences. Opening track "Last Chance" bears more than a passing resemblance to the Cult's "Li'l Devil", the baleful ballad "Move On" is a very slight rewrite of the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" helps itself to the chugging rhythm guitar part from Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life", "Cold Hard Bitch" could be any one of half a dozen AC/DC songs, and so on, for 13 hugely entertaining tracks: it could even serve as an ice-breaking party game. p The really good news, though, is that IGet Born/I stands up perfectly respectably as a rock album on its own merits. Like their approximate contemporaries the Kings of Leon, the White Stripes and the Darkness, Jet approach their hoary influences with a fresh, invigorating enthusiasm, and recycle them with such an exuberant guilelessness that any tendency the listener might have towards cynicism is suspended. There is nothing here you haven't heard in a thousand other records, but Jet wear these threadbare clothes with such poise and conviction that it doesn't matter: IGet Born/I rocks. I--Andrew Mueller/I

5 out of 5 stars I said Are You Gonna Be My Favourite CD?   December 31, 2003

I'd only heard two songs by Jet before i bought this, Are You Gonna Be My Girl? and Rollover DJ, both regular floorfillers at most of the indie and alternative club so i thought i'd buy an album that would put a smile on my face. When I first listened to it, i was blown away. There are so many different sides to Jet uncovered Look What You've Done shows that sensitive side whilst Cold Hard Bitch shows theyre bursting with attitude and theres plenty to go round! One of my favourite cds without a doubt!

Well, when Jet first got into the UK music press, they were dismissed as "too Stones-y" but this album is sure to blow all the critics away, with its tunes, and sheer guts and energy.pRecalling every band from the Stones and AC/DC to Oasis, Jet go about digging up the best of the last decade with an admirable energy and panache, and pretty much every song on this album is a killer. The highlights are the first single "Are You Gonna Be Girl?" which reminds you of Iggy and the Stooges, next single "Rollover D.J." (first released on their debut "Dirtysweet EP", which is also worth a purchase) "Look What You've Done", a piano-led ballad (!), and "Lazy Gun." However, virtually every track could be released as a single, with infectious riffs and melodies. It's a strong candidate for album of the year, and honestly, I do recommend that anyone with a love for life should purchase this as soon as possible.

Welcome to the greatest rock and roll debut since 'Definitely Maybe' - now grab yourself a drink and join the party!pJet have distilled their jaw dropping live energy into a record that's chock full of gasoline fuelled, amped-up guitar anthems that slap you in the face with their catchy immediacy. pRock music staples such as hating your job ('Get Me Outta Here'), the ice queen ('Cold Hard Bitch') and so on are dusted down for an invigorating adrenaline shot and pummel along over crunching guitars and killer tunes. With rock and roll returning to centre stage, this album provides a timely clarion call in 'Rollover DJ' - a rocket propelled attack on superstar DJs, as they let themselves out. pAching come-down ballads such as the piano led 'Look What You've Done' and the Stonesy strum along 'Move On' mellow out the relentless pace beautifully, and make the loud bits...LOUDER!pCynics may well argue that this is a Frankenstein's monster of second hand riffs, but taking Noel Gallagher's approach to song writing to heart, Jet have created a collection of songs that plays like a greatest hits package from stomping start to glorious finish.

This album is a must have for any rock enthusiast! Already this band, Jet has been compared with the greats - The Rollingstone, ACDC and The Beatles, and this is only their first album! "Get Born" features the hit single "Are you gonna be my girl" that is just amazing. I strongly suggest you buy this album as Jet is definitely a band going places!

I went to see Jet at the Astoria earlier tonight. They were stunning. Fantasticly talented and an astounding debut. Don't be put off by the unassuming name! They're so good, that having to pay £115 to have my car unclamped afterwards didn't even spoil it! Whether or not I feel the same when rent day comes around is another matter, but Jet rock, nonetheless... PS. The album is almost as good as the live experience!
