98Degrees MTV Newlyweds Star Goes Solo! October 19, 2003 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
Nick Lachey the lead singer of multi-platinum US RnB/pop vocal group 98 degrees and husband of Jessica Simpson co-writes a solo album that deserves merit.pNick showcases all his musical influences from Rock to soulful pop/RnB and has maybe produced a classic wedding song in "This I Swear" (you may recognise it as the theme song to MTV Newlyweds).pThis CD will automatically draw in comparisons to "Justified". However, Nick minus the pharrell and Timberland beats and is vocally better.pThe CD starts off on new ground with an RnB/pop stomper in "Shut Up", produced by Matrix (of Avril fame).p"Let Go" is a "credible pop" song where Nick Reminisces about his childhod and rise to fame and will have you singing along instantly.p"Fall In Love" finds Nick in familiar territory - a mature ballad laced with soulful vocals. Westlife fans will love it!p"Could You Love Me" - An RnB/pop track, a little different to anything around at the moment - one of my favourites on the CD.p"Carry On" More of a rockier sound, Written by Guy Chambers well known for many of Robbie's hit singles.p"You're the only place" - the second ballad on the album, Nick doing what he does best with Michael Jackson esque RnB production.p"Can't Stop Loving You" - Reminds me of George Michael's "Faith".p"Edge Of Eternity" Obvioulsy a song dedicated to his wife Jessica.p"Alright" - Produced by the matrix, this track is a pop thumper with a sound you have never heard.p"This I Swear" brEven though it's a little predictable - (aren't all great love songs?), This song has the potential to be a classic wedding song. And If I was Nick I'd release it in the UK for Xmas - guarenteed to be NO1!p"Open your eyes" - Savage Garden style mid tempo.p"On and on" - Nick finishes the album with a piano based RnB song - again reminiscent of a Michael Jackson ballad - amazing vocals!pThis for me is a successful solo project, great love songs (what he's known and respected for) and a gutsy venture into a "NEW" up-beat pop sound.pNick has the looks and talent to be a succesful artist for years to come whether it's with or without 98degrees.

this album is truly fantastic, i found this album after gettin hooked to the MTV program newly weds. So bought it havin liked the single "Shut Up". since buying it my boyfriend and I have "this I swear" as our song, so could say it is our album. Having watched Newleyweds, I thought I would get Nick's CD - it is brilliant. There isn't one song on the CD that I don't like, and Nick has a truly amazing voice. It is a shame that we don't hear much about him, if anything, in the UK. I can't wait for his latest album to be released.
