Amazon.co.uk Review IGreatest Hits/I attempts to sum up the history of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but its focus is firmly in the second half of their career. Early on, in the late 1980s, the Chili Peppers were an LA band who played a unique fusion of punk and funk--four guys, united by a love of partying and playing music. But they had a problem: although they were developing an underground following, nobody was buying their albums. Their first three albums failed to set the charts on fire, though they finally had a bit of a breakthrough with 1989's IMother's Milk/I. It wasn't enough--their label, EMI, dropped them. pEMI's AR department must be kicking themselves now because the Red Hot Chili Peppers have since gone on to become one of the most popular bands in the world. Their next album. IBlood Sugar Sex Magik/I, was a massive, worldwide hit, containing such huge singles as "Give It Away" and "Under the Bridge". It's follow-up IOne Hot Minute/I was frankly a bit poor, but it hardly stalled their upward trajectory. These funky punks had matured and they found a whole new audience on albums such as ICalifornication/I and IBy the Way/I. On them, there's the perfect marriage of playful innuendo, blistering musicianship (Flea is--quite rightly--considered one of the finest bassists in rock) and thoughtful songwriting. IGreatest Hits/I focuses on these later years of the Chili Peppers' career (only the Stevie Wonder cover "Higher Ground" predates IBlood Sugar#133;/I). It may not please all of their fans, but it's certainly a great starting point for the casual listener. I--Robert Burrow/I

My RHCP's Greatest Hits Review December 13, 2003 Soul Squeezer (Indonesia) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Actually, this album is not very disappointing. I can hear some of my favourite songs from their albums in just one album. Yet, there are great songs which aren't included in this album:br1)"Aeroplane" -Great song, I like the children voice, also the ending bass.br2)"Can't Stop" -It's much funkier than "By The Way".br3)"Love Rollercoaster" -Where the hell can I find this song in their album?!br4)"I could die for you" -Their most romantic song. EVER!!!br5)"All Around The World" -Why didn't they put this on this album???br6)"Shallow Be Thy Game" -It ROCKS!!! But it's a bit underrated.pI don't know why, but "My Friends" is the only RHCP's song with Dave Navarro. And we can also find "Higher Ground" in their old hits album "What Hits!?". Anyway, this is still such a great album to buy, because it contains great songs such as "Under The Bridge", "Give It Away", "Soul To Squeeze", "Road Trippin'", and also 2 (why's it only 2??!!) new songs, "Fortune Faded" "Save The Population", which are really great to hear. I really hope this WON'T be their last album ever (as we can see in other bands/groups greatest hits albums which mean their FINAL album).
A Red Hot 'Red Hot Chili Peppers' Album February 21, 2005 Stefan Hutchings 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
What can I say? One of the greatest rock bands in the world collaborates their best songs on one album. It's got to be good!!pThe album includes amazing songs from the albums "By The Way", "Californication", "Mother's Milk" and "Blood Sugar Sex Magik". It also has a song from the five year period in which their brilliant guitarist, John Frusciante, left the band and was replaced with Jane's Addiction guitarist, Dave Navarro. You'll also find a few songs that don't appear on any other album.pHowever, I feel that some great songs have been missed off, such as:br"Warped" from One Hot Minutebr"The Zephyr Song" from By The Waybr"Can't Stop" from By The Waybr"Around The World" from Californicationbr"Nobody Weird Like Me" from Mother's Milkbr"Knock Me Down" from Mother's MilkpUnfortunately, they have chosen to concentrate on the latest line-up of the band (with Chad Smith on drums and John Frusciante on guitar), so there are no songs from the band's earlier period with (among others) Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons. This period includes such funky tunes as:br"Fight Like A Brave" from The Uplift Mofo Party Planbr"True Men Don't Kill Coyotes" from Red Hot Chili Peppersbr"Behind The Sun" from The Uplift Mofo Party PlanpAlthough, I can't criticise this album too much as the bands founder members, Anthony Kiedas (vocals) and Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass), have been in the band since they began making records, so they're on every song!pWith the band's raw energy, talent and in some cases downright craziness, this album definitely deserves your attention - and your money!
A great album! December 2, 2005 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
These really are some of the best songs of the Chili#x27;s. If you#x27;ve never bought an album, this is the one for you. However, I do say SOME of their best songs. It lacks songs such as #x27;Can#x27;t Stop#x27; and #x27;The Zephyr Song#x27; and #x27;Aeroplane.#x27; pNonetheless, you will love this album I listen to it over and over and over again, never getting tired of it! If you like the Chili peppers but don#x27;t own an album, or just like good music with guitars... then BUY THIS CD!
Brilliant! May 25, 2006 Meg (Hemel Hempstead, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This compellation is an excellent collection of the greatest Chilis hits since 'mothers milk'(RHCP's 4th album.)i really enjoy listening to this album as it is a veriety of chilis stuff but all great chili peppers including the favourites - by the way, under the bridge, give it away, californication, my friends, higher ground and many more! it also incudes the non album track Soul to Squeeze and the new (2003) songs Fortune faded (which is regularly played live) and Save the population.
br /The booklet inside includes messages from the band who talk about thier influences and band pictures. This is a must have for a chilis fan or even someone that has only heard a couple of chilis songs!
Brillant! A Must Have! December 25, 2005 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is one Greatest Hits album you must have! Unlike the previous RHCP Greatest Hits/Best Of albums, these are actual hits. (Well they didn#x27;t get too high in the charts, but the singles on the other Greatest Hits/Best Of were never released into the charts, well at least not the UK#x27;s.) If want to know what the tracks are like he#x27;s a slight description: br br1.Under The Bridge- A true classic rock ballad. 9/10 br2.Give It Away- A hard funky rock tune, with a little bit of innuendo. 9/10 br3.Californication- Another, brillant metaphoric rock ballad. 10/10 br4.Scar Tissue- Again another brillant rock ballad. 10/10 br5.Soul To Squeeze- Yet again a 4th rock ballad, but not as good as the others. 5/10 br6.Otherside- The 5th ballad, but its a good one. 10/10 br7.Suck My Kiss- A bit crude, but rockin#x27; tune. 8/10 br8.By The Way- A brillant track, a great mix of rock ballad and punk rock. 9/10 br9.Parallel Universe- Again like By The Way it mixes to types of rock together.9/10 br10.Breaking The Girl- Do I have to say it again? Yet another ballad, but unlike the others, it sounds very different. 8/10 br11.My Friends- Yes, another one, sounds abit like Breaking The Girl, but better. 10/10 br12.Higher Ground- A brillant cover of the Stevie Wonder classic. 10/10 br13.Universally Speaking- A slow tempo, but cheerful song. 9/10 br14.Road Trippin#x27;- Yep, another, But the whole song is acoustic. br15.Fortune Faded- A brillant track exclusive to this album, sounds a bit like a heavier version of R.E.M.#x27;s "Orange Crush". 10/10 br16.Save The Population- A bit like Otherside, this is again an exclusive to this album. 8/10 br brA brillant album at best, good for people who like rock ballads.br- This refers to the Clean Version.
