Amazon.co.uk Review If ITurn It On/I says anything about Ronan Keating, it's that he's old way beyond his years. While most 26-year-old singers are chasing fashion and number ones, Keating's third solo album has him settling comfortably into his favoured role of middle-aged, middle-of-the-road country balladeer and aiming squarely at the loyal mums of Boyzone fans. The FM rock of "Turn It on Again" and "Back in the Day" aside, it's a supremely understated and sophisticated collection of easy-strummed love, dusty dirt-track plodding and campfire heartache. Cowritten by former Deacon Blue singer Ricky Ross, "She Get's Me Inside" brims with a sweetly melancholic affection. "Let Her Down Easy", penned by another one-time pop star, Terence Trent D'Arby, sways plaintively to wonderfully fragile emotions, while elsewhere there are plenty of lovable slow burners. But it wouldn't hurt Keating to lighten up and have a little fun. With early singles "Life Is a Rollercoaster" and "Lovin' Each Day" he offered all-conquering singalongs for all ages. Without such feelgood fun, ITurn It On/I is solid but hard to get excited about. I--Dan Gennoe/I

Fantastic album! December 14, 2003 from Poland (Poland) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Turn It On is a great album, special for many reasons. The most important thing about it is that all the tracks (except the two covers) were co written by Ronan himself. Ronan has a rare gift for writing grand melodies, pieces of music that have their very own special character, style, vibe or whatever you want to call it, making them unique and unforgettable. So it is no wonder that in the past he has been honoured with awards for writing the songs Picture of You and The Long Goodbye, and it is no coincidence that songs like Feel or Sea of Love are adored by those who were lucky enough to discover them as b-sides on his singles.brThis album contains a breathtaking collection of outstanding melodies. It doesn't matter whether it is an energetic up-tempo song like Back in the Day, a romantic one like First Time or a rocky tune like the title track Turn It on Again they are at all times excellent. Listen and feel how I Wouldn't Change a Thing gradually grows from a ballad to a huge passionate song! It is unusual to find an album with such a big amount of good tracks on it - each song has its own magic and could easily be released as a single.brThe best choice for a next single seems to be either Last Thing on my Mind - a fabulous duet with LeAnn Rimes (his best duet so far except for Melting Pot, where Ronan's voice blends perfectly with Tracy Ackerman's 'dark' voice) or the wild Back In The Day, however if you want to pick a song that would be the most representative of Turn It On you have to choose some other track: First Time, She Believes (In Me), The Best Of Me or Hold You Now, because the most striking feature of this album are Ronan's vocals. In most of the songs (those produced by Mark Tylor) there is a tangible contrast between thorough arrangements and Ronan's rough vocals. Listen to Let her Down Easy - it really hits you. No matter how rich the accompaniment, the strong, hoarse, deep voice takes precedence in its own simple form - and in this case simplicity means brilliance.brWeak songs? I can't find any on this record. However if I have to point a finger at anything it would be Give You What You Want - the arrangement for this song is a bit simple, especially when you compare it to my favourite song, a real pearl on this album: Hold you Now - with its hypnotic rhythm, characteristic gentle piano phrase and amazingly rough vocals.brTurn it On is definitely one of the best albums I've heard in the last few years. All that moaning about Ronan being 'in the middle of the road' as a singer is unfounded and it is funny how some critics keep repeating this banality. Reading their reviews you'd think that Ronan has sinned and has to pay a penalty solely for the fact of having formed part of a boyband - well it has to do more with the image than with the music and now it is more the critics' problem than Ronan's. Turn it On is first-rate sophisticated pop with strong rock influences. These songs will last in time regardless of fashion and are a rare example of music made with honesty, passion and unique talent. brYou are not a Ronan fan? Then listen to his album, it will surprise you. Just check it out - the music speaks for itself.
Fab fab fab November 28, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is one album every record collection should contain. I loved ronan's first album, and thought no album could b betta. But he released destination, and that was fantastic. There was no way he could get better from that standard- wrong! definitely his best album to date! There are beautiful ballads like Let Her Down Easy and the gorgeous ballad for his mum 'this is your song.' also there are more up tempo songs like the wonderful Back in the day and Turn it on again- wot a fab title track. Then there is the duet with LeAnn Rimes, and the counrty vibe to on my way (sounds similar to Elvis' in the ghetto) basically- a must have album for Devoted Ronan fans, and new comers alike!
Another great album from Ronan December 7, 2003 Mrs. Susan Taylor (West Sussex England) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I received this album on the day it was released and as soon as it dropped through my letterbox, I stopped doing my housework to listen to it, and I have to say I loved it the first time I heard it.This album is much better than his last one Destinationbrin my opinion but then I do tend to prefer Ronan's ballards to the upbeat ones. Having said that I love the title track turn it on and back in the day, I must say well done Ronan for this superb album the way I am going I might have to buy another copy as I am in danger of wearing it out with playing so many times. I certainly think it deserved a much higher place in the album charts. My favourite album was the first one titled Ronan but I now have a joint favourite with the latest one, roll on your next album please. I also hope that there will be a Turn it on tour next year to see him sing these songs live.
Certainly An Album to "Turn On" November 24, 2003 K. Fowler (Kent United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have been a fan for just over 4 years and although I loved his first album I wasn't as sure about Destination because of the change in direction, but I have to say this album is certainly his best to date. His voice has matured and taken on a whole new tone, and some of the love songs in particular First Time are truly beautiful. There are other highlights his duet with Leann Rimes is very uplifting and their voices blend perfectly together. Back In The Day and Turn it on also show that he well able to turn his hand to the rockier stuff. Also his cover of Let Her Down easy show such a maturity in his voice for one so young. Some of the tracks are very much in the vibe of David Gray and are real growers. pSo well done Ronan and I look forward to your next album.
Turn It On November 25, 2003 Yvonne Lee (Singapore) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Turn It On.....surely deserve listen and beyond.pThe first time I listen to this album, I was almost teary-eyed. It#8217;s not just from the multi-faceted richness in his music, but also from his ability to pen unpretentious lyrics that goes straight for the heart with his music, and his unwavering belief in his music. Out of the 14 tracks, two are covers the remaining tracks carried his words. There isn#8217;t a weak track on this outstanding album. While the rockier and edgier numbers hit you like a blast of pure, unadulterated adrenaline, this album also features moving ballads injected with raw honesty n soul elements. Times and again, Ronan demonstrates how he has subsumes his personality within the right emotion through singing. His duet with Leann Rimes on #8220;Last Thing On My Mind#8221; is fantastic and don#8217;t miss the two cover songs, you#8217;re going to love it. Everything is worth a go on the album, so gives Turn It On a good spin.
