5 out of 5 stars Jojo rocks!   August 14, 2004

I live in England, so I haven't heard too much about Jojo, but I do know she is releasing "Leave" in the UK soon. Based on this single I bought the album from amazon and it has not been a disappointment. brLots of people say this album is pop, but I don't really think it is, it's way more r'n'b, especially songs such as "breezy" and "city lights." There is one sweet ballad and a few slower r'n'b tunes, and some faster ones, with a small hint of pop.brI haven' got really any albums like this, so it's quite fresh for me, but I really do like it. Some of the songs do remind me a little bit of Destiny's Child tunes, and one or two sound like some of Christina Aguilera's songs when she not very poppy.brIf you like "Leave" or any of Jojo's other songs I would definitely recommend this to you.pNote: I would have given this album 4 ½ stars if I could, but amazon don't do halves and also he booklet with the album doesn't have any lyrics if you want to sing along!pBREEZY - An extremely good song, a great start to the album. This track is very r'n'b, in my opinion the bridge is the best bit. 10/10pBABY IT'S YOU - I love the beat to this, it's quite a simple song, but is catchy and real good. The first verse lyrics are effective, all about why everyone wants to be like a celebrity. 9/10pNOT THAT KINDA GIRL - The b-side to "Leave." This song reminds me of a song that Kelly Rowland sang, but not one of her singles. A mid-tempo song, with a cool chorus. 9/10pTHE HAPPY SONG - I read loads of reviews and not that many people like this, I think it's really good. I love " da da da da " bit in the chorus. If you hear the title of this song, and you haven't listened to it you might think it's very loud and poppy, but it is seriously not, it is happy, but not in a over happy way! 9.5/10pHOMEBOY - One of the best, it's quite individual on the album. Very r'n'b, this is a favourite among fans, and I can see why, with great lyrics, a great tune and great vocals! 10/10pCITY LIGHTS - When I first heard this I didn't like it much, but I like it a lot now. This is quite fast and cool. Not much else to say. 8/10pLEAVE - I think the reason nearly everyone bought the album. An amazing song, but I'm sure you have your own judgement of this, so I won't go on. 10/10pUSE MY SHOULDER - My least favourite. I kinda like this song, but the chorus is boring, and the tune is not very good. The is a pre chorus which is pretty bad, repeats everything about 4 or 5 times each, a little annoying, but still OK. 6.5/10pNEVER SAY GOODBYE - This isn't like any other song on this album, it is a sweet ballad, this is where Jojo gets more poppy, but who cares? The lyrics are cute, and her voice is really good on this track. I love it! 10/10pWEAK - Whenever I read a review this seems to be a favourite, but it isn't mine. If you like the original you should like this song, but I'm not that keen. The verse is a bit slow and dull, the chorus is good, but it doesn't really compare to the rest of the album. 7/10pKEEP ON KEEPIN' ON - This is written by Jojo and it's a really uplifting song, the message is just keep trying and someday you'll get to where you want to be. The lyrics are good and the song is catchy. 9.5/10pSUNSHINE - To me this sounds like Christina Aguilera's "Loving Me 4 Me" (not the lyrics, the tune.) I really like that song, so this is good. The line "Don't you go, don't you go no where" is cool, look out for it. This is also individual from the rest of the album. 9/10pYES OR NO - Co-wrote by Jojo, like "Sunshine." This is my third fave song, another very r'n'b song, there is a great line which is "You are not ready." This is very easy to understand and I'm sure a few people can relate to it. 10/10pFAIRY TALES - The lyrics are so good in this song, it's all about how fairy tales aren't real and it can put some stuff in perspective. Although the lyrics are really good, the song is kinda good, the verses, bridge and speaking part are good, but the chorus isn't that great apart from the "la da da dee" bit. 8.5/10pThis album is just over 50 minutes long and I think you should seriously consider buying it if you like any of Jojo's songs. pLYRICS - 7.5/10brMUSIC - 9/10brVOCAL - 9/10pOVERALL- 90/100

Im not much of a fan of pop music, BUT when it comes to American pop I take an interest in it for example Michelle Branch, Stacie Orrico, etc.brOk, so Jojo maybe 13, but her age means nothing cuz this girl can sing, hit the right notes and I know for a fact this album will appeal to you if you're into quality british or american rb.pTrack Rating outta 10:p1. My daughter recently got this album for her 11th birthday. She insisted on playing it for me to hear. My first thoughts were I bet this wont be very good. I could not have been more wrong the album is excellent, and there are no bad tracks on it Yes I was surprised by her age and the quality of the music, writing and her voice. Well worth a listen.
