Masterly Compilation July 2, 2006 DavyA (Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
A superb compilation. I have a good few Sinatra albums but none of the other compilations I have comes near this.
br /It has some of the finest records he ever made, across three, truly marvellous CDs. If you buy this, I cannot see how you could not love it.
br /Get this, then treat yourself to "Songs For Swinging Lovers " "In The Wee Small Hours" (two superbly crafted records) you'll be sorted.
br /A truly far reaching expansive compilation. Excellent value, considering the quality of the music.
br /They really don't make them like this any more - let's face it, there was only one Frank Sinatra - buy this you'll see why.
The Best Sinatra Album Ever January 21, 2005 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
If you could collect sinatra's best works and put them in an album, you'd end up with the platinum collection. I can't stress enough how good this album is. Can't stop listening (and singing along) to it regardless of how many times I hear it. A must have for all sinatra fans.

Some lesser known facts about the crooner FRANK SINATRA .... July 31, 2009 amazon reader 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
br /FRANK SINATRA's music reminds me on one of the best times in my whole life! I had the great luck to study engineering and business in CALIFORNIA the 1980ies!
br /
br /I enjoyed life there to the fullest. Of course I fell in love to breathtaking beautiful American girls and women, I travelled all over California and the States! And all the time I enjoyed to listen to the best American musicians! FRANK SINATRA was and still is my all-time favorite American musician. -I bought in the 1980ies hundreds of music LPs and CDs in the USA.
br /
br /I moved from job to job in the next 25 years. I worked and lived in North and South America, all over Europe, in South Africa, in Australia, in Far East. All my beloved American CDs moved with me from place to place. FRANK SINATRA's music was - and still is ! - one of my all-time favorites!
br /
br /Now in 2009, 25 years after my studies in USA, I have just landed in one of the most beautiful places in the Arabian Gulf region. The CDs of my American musicians are still in my sheleves, and I enjoy to listen to FRANK SINATRA's songs on my drives through the Arabian deserts all over the Arabian Gulf region.

br /..... Here is a portrait of FRANK SINATRA:
br /
br /On March 13, 2008, the United States Postal Service issued a 42-cent stamp depicting world-renowned entertainer, Frank Sinatra. The stamp for "Ol' Blue Eyes" was issued one day prior to the tenth anniversary of his death. It features a wonderful depiction of a young Sinatra wearing a fedora and flashing those trademark blue eyes.
br /
br /The stamp is certain to be popular, especially with non-collectors, and it might be a good thing to go ahead and purchase the stamp now.
br /
br /Sinatra is probably best classified as entertainer extraordinaire. In addition to his mellow crooning voice, he acted in several well-received movies, including The Manchurian Candidate, From Here to Eternity, and The Man with the Golden Arm. He also acted in several TV shows including the critically acclaimed Our Town.
br /
br /The LEGEND of Sinatra is larger than life. Here are some lesser-known facts about the "Chairman of the Board" that you may not be aware:
br /
br /
br /1: At birth, baby Frank was thought to be stillborn until he was thrust under cold water and began to move about.
br /
br /2: Forceps used during his birth caused permanent damage to his left earlobe, cheek and neck.
br /
br /3 Early in his career, Sinatra was asked to change his stage name to Frankie Satin, an obvious play on words for his smooth, crooning voice. He refused.
br /
br /4: During his short-lived marriage to actress Mia Farrow, Sinatra stunned Farrow when he served her with divorce papers in front of cast and crew of Rosemary's Baby.
br /
br /5: In the early 1990s, when Mia Farrow was publicly humiliated by her long-term lover's, Woody Allen's, marriage to their adopted daughter, Sinatra offered to have Allen's legs broken, an obvious connection to Sinatra's Mafia relationships.
br /
br /6: Sinatra's final and longest-lasting marriage was to Barbara Marx, the ex-wife of the comedy troupe The Marx Brothers member, Zeppo Marx.
br /
br /7: The son of a Democratic-party ward boss, Sinatra was a fervent supporter of the Democrats, ostensibly until being snubbed by President John F. Kennedy, when Kennedy stayed at Bing Crosby's house, instead of staying at Sinatra's house. Within a few short years, Sinatra switched his alliance to the Republican party.
br /
br /8: Sinatra refused to play in Las Vegas, Nevada, hotels and casinos where African-Americans could not entertain nor patronize. He was such a money-maker for the entertainment industry and had such clout that his efforts spurred increased racial desegregation in the state.
br /
br /9: When his only son, Frank, Jr., was kidnapped and the kidnappers demanded that Frank, Sr., call from untraceable pay telephones, he began a life-long habit of carrying a roll of dimes (the cost of a pay-phone call at that time) in his pocket. He is reputed to have been buried with a small roll of dimes.
br /
br /10: The song title "The Best is Yet to Come" is engraved on his tombstone. Ironically it was also the last song he sang in public, at the age to 79.
br /
br /.... a portrait about the musical genius FRANK SINATRA:
br /
br /The man; the icon; the legend. If there was one status to give to Ol' Blue Eyes, it would have to be next to the top of the pedestal for all entertainers in the history of music (and certainly, among the most famous of all American artists). He had numerous hits spanning over four decades of performance, and produced over 60 albums and 300 singles. Frank Sinatra was also a four-time Golden Globe Award winner, and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his captivating performance as Pvt. Angelo Maggio in 1952's From Here to Eternity.
br /
br /In addition to his numerous and memorable albums, hits, musicals, and movies, the man was also a legend in another form of artistry -- that of seducing women. Yes, the "Chairman of the Board" was a popular item among the women of his day, and had "bobby soxers" everywhere swooning over his stage presence (yesterday's form of teenie boppers, for you younger readers). If that wasn't enough, his list of marriages is only outnumbered by the astounding list of flings he had over his illustrious career. All the way from Nancy Barbato right to Barbara Marx, the man was a perpetual flirt (and damn good at it too). However, the most brilliant part of it all was that he never let his inhibitions impede his efforts; the man oozed confidence, and the women he hooked up with experienced first-hand why Frank Sinatra is a prodigal figure amongst Players the world over. Let's take a look at some of the skills one of the most iconic Player, Frank Sinatra, plied that made him a legendary pickup artist.
br /
br /Ol' Blue Eyes was well-known for his distaste for the press, especially when it came to talking about his private life. One good example of this was his brief engagement to LAUREN BACALL (of whom Frank Sinatra was wooing well before her then-husband Humphrey Bogart passed away in 1957). When the media got hold of the news, the announcement was published to newspapers everywhere and, in true Frank Sinatra fashion, dismissed the reports as "nuts," promptly calling off the engagement to Lauren Bacall, blaming her for the leak. Of course, this example is a bit of an extreme, but a lack of privacy in developing intimate relationships can lead to a similar result -- a broken heart and a bruised ego.
