Amazon.co.uk Review The fourth solo album from the man they call King Monkey, ISolarized/I finds Ian Brown drifting further and further into the role of Madchester mystic, ancient wisdom and Gnostic philosophies tripping from his lips between unbroken rings of exhaled spliff smoke. pOne track in particular will get the lads excited - "Keep What Ya Got", a somewhat unremarkable collaboration with Oasis' Noel Gallagher. Luckily, there's much more adventurous fare to be found elsewhere: "Time Is My Everything", for instance - an Ennio Morricone-style piece of atmospheric Wild West pop, featuring brass courtesy of Tim Hutton of Groove Armada - or "Upside", a moody number about poverty and inequality that finds Brown barking "7% own 84% of everything on earth/ Oil is the spice to make man forget man's worth" over eerie backwards drum whooshes. pExotic flavours are something of an album theme - several tracks feature melodic allusions to Middle Eastern or South American music. Mind you, when you can decipher Brown's sometimes abstract lyrics, it's clear his concerns are rooted in the here and now--see "Kiss Ya Lips (No I.D)" and its defiant anti-Blunkett refrain: "I ain't no number/ Don't need no I.D card around my neck." I--Louis Pattison/I

i am only a new fan of ian browns solo material,i own all the stone roses albums and this holds it's own against them.highlight tracks include; time is my everything, sweet fantastic, kiss ya lips (no id )(i have to stop here ,there is too many to say ! ). i like ians sometimes strange lyrics, and there is a varied mix of interesting musical styles.there is plenty on this album to keep you interested for a long time. go buy it !

Not since Wilcos 'Ghost' have I had a disk that I had to copy to make sure I had it in my house and car at all times.pI read a Rolling Stone review dismissing this album, passing it off at a pretentious Portishead wannabe. I simply can't understand the reference! It's nothing like Portishead (who I love) and an incredible collection of familiar (ie Ians voice) but new tunes.
At last, something I can't wait to listen to September 9, 2004 Joel Cairo (Morocco) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Here in Washington, D.C., a lot of us have been waiting for something good, something that makes us feel the way we did when we were very young and first began listening to music. Every time a new Ian Brown CD gets released, I feel this way all over again. This time I decided not to wait for it to get released in the states because that takes too long. Overseas shipping be damned! I don't care, I've been waiting a long time for a good record, and I can't wait any longer.
King Monkey up for album of the year. September 16, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Amazing, by far the best album relaesed this year. Im a big fan of music in general, and an admirer of Ian Brown, for the simple reason that he is one of the only musicians that is willing to do something different. Dont get me wrong i like alot of the music around at the moment but for me this album has GENIUS written all over it, from start to finish this album is amazing, it draws you in to listen with excitement as it never fails to astound you with its dark, funky and cool beats. After 2 plays your hooked and then it sinks in that this man is light years ahead of anybody else when it comes to music. The main attraction is that it is totaly fresh and you cant say you've heard it before, its interesting and you want to play it over over again. Without a doubt this album is amazing and if the music critics had any idea about good music instead of supporting all the clone music around, they would be voting this the album of the year.

For sum reason, ven tho i'm a massive fan of Ian Brown, I keep fearing the worst and expect him to run out of fresh ideas but he seems to deliver every time so what more can you ask for. Even better, its one of those albums that takes a couple of listens, ultimately you get into it more than you would if it hooked you first time, dont ask me why, you just do...really enjoyed the Noel Gallagher collaberation, sure they can do more too.
