5 out of 5 stars Musical Bliss   December 19, 2005

Every now and then a band not only puts a defining stamp on their genre, but also expands itself with other musical influences to leave the other bands looking on from afar with envy. This is exactly what Alexisonfire have done with this release.pThis album is an evolution from their self titled album. The songs are more structured and melodic. Alexisonfire mesh the screaming vocals of George Petit, the raspy punk vocals of Wade Preston and the gifted melodic vocals of Dallas Green, into one unique sound which other bands have found hard to replicate (Just listen to Moneens shocking covers of Alexisonfire songs on the switcheroo album).pI originally bought both Alexisonfire albums after hearing a few of their songs and getting a high recommendation from one of my friends. This album does not disappoint in anyway. I listen to this album every day and it only gets better with age. This is an album that even people with aversions to music with screaming vocals can enjoy. Every song will have you singing a long once you know the words.pThe songs range from the trademark energy fueled favourites such as #x27;Accidents#x27;, #x27;Hey It#x27;s Your Funeral Mama#x27; and #x27;That Girl Posessed#x27; to the slower more emotional songs such as #x27;Sharks and Danger#x27;, #x27;Sidewalk Where She Walks#x27; and #x27;Happiness by the Kilowatt#x27;, as well as the stand out sing along tracks such as #x27;No Transitory#x27; in which Dallas really shows off his vocal skills, #x27;Get Fighted#x27; and #x27;White Devil#x27;.pQuite simply, if you don#x27;t own this album already then you are deprived. If you are a fan of hardcore, emo, punk or alternative music in general, you MUST pick up this album! Words really can not do this album justice!

5 out of 5 stars Very good   April 29, 2006

Watch out! is definatley a step up from Alexisonfire`s self-titled debut as they have really seemed to find what works within the band. This album contains less screaming than the last, and they really have unleashed the wonderful voice of Dallas. br /Although the sound comes across as a little softer due to the toning down of the screaming, I feel that it rather emphasises the screaming, when it is used, it is much more powerful than their previous album. A great example of this is the second song 'control' which is an aggresive mix of Georges screaming and Dallas` crooning. br /Vocals aside, this album delivers the same instrumental talent as before, a beautiful blend of epic and technical guitar work and some wonderful drumming. My only gripe is the lack of the crazy 2 minute intros that were in songs such as '.44 caliber love letter' and 'Pulmonary Archery'. br /Stand out tracks for me: br /'Sharks and danger' - The voice sampling in the background of this song is very cool, and the ending when George, Dallas and Wade are all involved is mindblowing br /'Get Fighted' - Im a big fan of the lyrics to this song, which is delivering a message to the kids who are obviously swept up in the fashion and social norms associated with this genre of music br / br /Buy this album now!

5 out of 5 stars Shocking.   November 7, 2006

Tsk tsk Canadian bands. That's why its shocking: they are really good. Don't get me wrong, I HATE screamo. I hope this will help non-emo-screamo fans out because for a non-fan I really dig this music. br / br /Firstly, this album is more 'raw' and less 'mainstream refined' (ala Fallout Girls). AOF's latest album flows more along those lines, so before you get into this album, you might want to give that a try first to adapt. That said, if you liked the latest album, this one might be a bit harder for you. For the MTV generation, think a harder sounding Hoobastank (2001-2002) (AOF = Watch out!) before going bubblegum (2003-current) (AOF = Crisis). Hope you understood that. br / br /It took a few listens before I liked them, then a few more and reading the lyrics to find out what the hell George was screaming about. Then it really kicked in. Dallas has got a good voice, very well suited to the stuff the band are making music about. Listen to the tracks to know what I mean. Not really too feminine like Incubus, (not that they are) nor really hardcore Pantera (not that they are), listen to it. If you play fast-paced sport, this music will be a killer friend of yours. Another image: one time I really 'thought' about this music was when I was running around shooting rifles (live) while this music was playing. br / br /I first looked them up after finding out under all that useless screaming there were some good riffs in Accidents (1). I then bought the CD after looking up 2 more unknown tracks. I then really got into the first 5 tracks, in particular: Mama, Sidewalk, Fear Of Myself. Mama is really good. After a while, I haven't a clue why, but I simply stopped paying attention to the screaming because the mixing is done so well that the guitars REALLY shine. Seriously. If you need to find a band that speaks using their MUSIC, look no further. I understood the music before reading the lyrics to get the details. You kind of have to with the screaming. br / br /On the flip-side, to reiterate that you probably need to listen to it a few times to get used to it, my brother is a Pantera fan and he simply hates the screaming. Still. br / br /I feel that if you need a bridge to listen to screamo (whatever reason that may be), try this band. I gave this album 5 stars because the first half is just that good. The second half of the CD is lacking, but hey you can't have a CD full of diamonds can you? br / br /In general, if you're a real adrenaline junkie and find yourself doing dangerous and fast-paced stuff, do a gnutella preview and give this album a try.

This is one album which could be compared to the fisrt utterly unreal. However when i first got into them it was very difficult to grasp this new style of music that alexis acquire however after a few listen u will be hooked baby! George Petits voice seems to be an instrument on its own on both the self titled album and watch out. A truly amazing album which is going to bouce their career. Alexis plan to release a new album early next year so fingers crossed it will be as good.
