Amazon.co.uk Review
Marshall Mathers has always delighted in confounding expectations, so we should have guessed he'd respond to the title Most Important Artist Of His Generation with IEncore/I - an album peppered with puerile humour, myriad references to his past career, and plenty of farts, burps and vomiting. Thankfully, even Slim Shady on a bad day can be a fairly mighty proposition: the seething "Mosh" is a rare moment of high seriousness--a trudging anti-Bush epic in the vein of "White America" that positively vibrates with bile - while the skittery "My 1st Single" proves that Mathers can be engaging even when he's rapping about basically nothing. pThe key to understanding IEncore/I is through its pursuit of sheer offensiveness for offence's sake, be it the comic accent on "Ass Like That", or the relentless gay jibes of "Rain Man" - all of which seem to be more about prodding the hornet's nest of controversy that any genuine prejudice. Still, it's occasionally hard to escape that there's a certain weariness to Em's delivery, an impression that sometimes extends to the arrangements - see "Like Toy Soldiers", a jaundiced account of rap feuding, rendered unnecessarily corny by a sample of "Toy Soldiers" by '80s two-hit wonder Martika. I--Louis Pattison/I

5 out of 5 stars Are other people hearing what i'm hearing?   November 12, 2004

The wait is over, the follow up to The Eminem Show is here and has been greeted with various different responses.pMany have said it's ok, but not up to his previous releases. In my opinion i think many people are missing the point and idea behind the album.pBefore hearing the album i was desperately hoping Eminem wouldn't have made another 'D12 World' album, lame, long and uninspired. Thankfully he hasn't, for the first time in a long time Eminem goes it alone, and it shows. pFirst listen the album seems strange in comparison to anything Eminem has done before, the songs are more melodic and the lyrics are slightly different, but don't be fooled - this is merely a distorted interpretation of his previous recordings. From The Slim Shady Lp through to Encore we see Eminem evolving his style - comical on Slim Shady, Emotional on Marshall Mathers, Pissed off on Eminem Show and finally Mature on Encore.pSongs such as 'Toy Soldiers' and 'Evil Deeds' are instant classics, making them radio friendly, but deeper songs such as 'Mosh' and 'Spend Some Time' show real versitility within his style, relying more on emotion and pure energy. He even revisits his comical side on 'Ass Like That' which is one of the best songs featured, as Eminem changes his accent, fantastic.pAll in all, buy the CD, make your own mind up, in my opinion the other reviews are way off course, see what YOU think

I bought this album a few days back and have not been disappointed. This is a high class album with some real classics in.pTo put a few things straight: If you want another Marshal Mathers LP, this isnt it. It is more along the lines of the Eminem Show, with some more heart-full tracks mixed in to give it a unique edge. This album is better produced than any of his previous albums, perhaps not as experimental and innovative - but lets be honest he's already milked innovation dry - but lyrics still leave you sitting in silence moments after the CD finishes.pYes there are 1 or 2 fillers (namely 'Ass Like That' and 'Big Weenie'), but it's not worth putting the album down over. Trust me, I hate a bad albums as much as anyone else but this is seriously another classic.p'Like Toy Soldiers' and 'Spend Some Time' are my favourites right now but every Eminem fan knows that it changes to your mood...

Hey all first off am a big eminem fan and a huge rap fan, When i read people's review on this album the people that downloaded it befor it came out the people that said it's not that good i just want to say what the hell are they on about, I got the album today and i think it's SICK (for the people that dont know what sick means)VERY VERY GOOD, If people are trying to compare it to the The Marshall Mathers LP, I hear this alot and it get's on my last nerve then you may as well go out and buy ja rule's albums, It will not live up to The Marshall Mathers LP no matter how good it is, I think that album is somewhere in the top 20 albums of all time, Well just to finish off i think ENCORE is a good buy even if your not that much of an EMINEM fan like my brother he listend to it and like's it, If you are an EMINEM fan it's a must buy, DONT BE PUT OFF BUY PEOPLE'S BAD REVIEW'S.

5 out of 5 stars Utter Genius   November 3, 2004

What can I say.... Indeed, what can be said? This guy is an absolute lyrical genius, surrounded by a team of musical and promotional geniuses. His gift for rap delivery is unparalleled and unprecedented. It's a shame he released this album at all. It only means the wait starts all over again for the next one....pThe album isn't perfect. But nothing is. In the RAP game (sorry Ja Rule) this is as good as it gets and will get until The Good Dr. finally does Detox. It gets 5 stars because there are some absolutely killer tracks on this album. You want to buy this album as soon as it is released..... don't waiting around wondering... Me, i'm queueing up outside my local record store overnight, sharing a newspapersheet with a tramp to get my hands on a this classic, and then i'm gonna buy myself a backup copy from amazon.... See you there...

Managed to download this yesterday - A must for all Eminem/Dre/D12/Obie Trice etc etc fans. Another brilliant offering from Eminem, probably will become the best album yet. Best tracks include Puke, Paul (skit), Big Weenie, Em Calls Paul (skit), Just Lose It, Spend Some Time, Mockingbird, and Crazy In Love. I haven't heard the tracks that only appear on the Limited edition version, but I have now ordered it!! Excellent. 5/5.
