Amazon.co.uk Review The story of Brian McFadden is a familiar one--backing singer leaves five piece boy-band at their peak and gets together with song-writer Guy Chambers for a solo career. But will IIrish Son/I bring him the success of Robbie Williams?Unlike Robster, Brian's first single, "Real to Me" went straight to number one. It's far less poppy and safe than what he might have been used to in Westlife and is given added authenticity by the band he chose to use in favour of a generic backing track. Second single and title track of the album is a little more daring still--on the one hand a tribute to the city of Dublin and the other a church-baiting declaration of religious abstinence. "Sorry Love Daddy" stands out as something a little bit more natural than one might expect--an acoustic guitar ballad with only occasional strings augmenting the subtle arrangement. "Almost Here" is an MOR duet with label-mate Delta Goodrem which too is strangely likeable despite their voices sounding miles apart.IIrish Son/I will surprise some doubters who felt the former boy-band balladeer could not cut it as a solo act. Certainly at this stage McFadden's talent in this area of cathartic, folksy, soft-rock is no match for some of the more established artists out there but artistically he's already streets ahead of his former band.--IGeorgina Collins/I

The Album of the year! November 3, 2004 20 out of 26 found this review helpful
Some people may have thought that the day Brian left Westlife, was the end of his music career, but Brian has made a brilliant album, and is definitely proving them all wrong!pThis is a very, very good album, and it's a very varied. Not 2 songs sound the same! There are beautiful ballades like "Sorry, Love Daddy", which is a very personal and touching song, Rocky songs like "Walking Disaster" and mid-tempo songs like "Lose Lose Sitation", so there should be something for everyone on it!pPersonally my favourite song is "Demons", it's such a powerful song and it gives me goose bumps, but to be honest, all the songs are great. Brian has become my favourite artist, and I can't wait to hear more from him!pThis album is definitely worth the money!

This is the best album I have heard for a long time - just listen to the lyrics, if this is written from his own experiences my heart goes out to him. Well done Brian and keep up the good work.

Every track is a winner December 10, 2004 Christine Tebbutt (Sutton, Surrey United Kingdom) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one of the best albums I have heard for a while. Every track is worth listening to - the lyrics are strong, bordering between sweet and poignant (Sorry Love Daddy) to raw and deeply moving (Walking into Walls). Brian McFadden has produced a terrific album here and I hope we see more from this talented singer and songwriter. Go buy it, you won't regret it!
What a great album January 28, 2005 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This has to be the best album of 2004. Such a beautifully written album, with most of the songs having true meaning, and truly written from the heart.
