| Customer Reviews: Urban Sings With Passion Really Connects! June 19, 2005 Jana L. Perskie (New York, NY USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was only introduced to the music of Keith Urban a few weeks ago at a friend's home - we listened to the album "Be Here" - and I was immediately taken with his sound. What talent! Apparently he grew up "Down Under" listening to American country music, picked up a guitar at age six and started winning country talent shows by age eight. So, determination is another one of his innate gifts, along with his incredible tenor voice, his fire and dexterity on the guitar, and the ability to write amazing songs! I have listened to the powerful and heartfelt songs on "Be Here" so often I know all the lyrics. I am ready to buy another of his albums - perhaps the second, the double platinum "Golden Road."pUrban wrote eight of the thirteen songs on "Be Here," and he co-produced the album with Dann Huff. It's a mix of wonderful ballads, some moody, some sweet, and fast-paced rollicking tunes with strong, driving guitar riffs - all celebrating the joys and somber side of life and love. While this CD does not feature any instrumentals, there are some really great guitar solos. Keith pours his heart out in the outstanding, poignant "Nobody Drinks Alone, penned by Matracia Berg and Jim Collins. This is one of my favorite tracks, as is the heartbreaker "Tonight I Wanna Cry," which is piano based and a surprise for fans who are used to Urban's great guitar accompaniment. I love the beautiful "Making Memories of Us," written by Rodney Crowell. "I Could Fly" is upbeat and magical, and there is a terrific cover of Elton John's 1970's "Country Comfort."pI highly recommend this CD - even if you're not a country fan. I think the sound is actually a bit of a fusion of traditional country, bluegrass and rock - however - plain and simply, these are songs filled with passion and performed by an artist who really knows how to connect to the listener.! pAccompanying Keith Urban are: Tom Bukovac (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Dan Huff (acoustic 12-string guitar); Tim Akers (accordion, piano, keyboards); Jimmie Lee Sloas, Paul Bushnell (bass guitar); Chris McHugh, Matt Chamberlain (drums, percussion); Eric Darken (percussion); Russell Terrell (background vocals).brJANA

having never heard of keith urban until this month, can't believe what i was missing out on! (it was through an amazon listmania that made me sample the album). it's an excellent cd especially to drive to. all the songs are good, a mixture of upbeat, happy, edgy or ballads, there's not one track that i fast forward and i loved it from the 1st listen. i have it on regularly and i think its going to be one of those cd's that you never tire of. i defintely want his other cd golden road. some of favourite artists are shedaisy, enrique, leann rimes, darren hayes, seal, michelle branch to name a few.

If you are a fan of Lonestar, Brooks and Dunn or Dwight Yoakam you are going to love Keith Urban. This album is fantastic, it has some great, upbeat, foot tappin' songs as well as some lovely slower/ballad ones. This is a real shut the door, kick off your shoes, grab your favourite drink, hit play on the stereo and your home, CD!! br Keith Urban has really got that modern country sound and this album would be a great start to any new listeners and a great addition to any Keith Urban collections you may already own.
