Amazon.co.uk Review Three years in the making, Hanson's third studio album "Underneath" finally sorts the men from the boys. Be it a blessing or a curse, the fraternal Tulsa trio seem to have endured in the public's collective-consciousness as the "look mum" munchkins responsible for 1997's contagious Jackson 5 flavoured chart smash "MMMbop". However, not only does IUnderneath/I find Hanson more mature and intuitive (they may be relative veterans but they're still only marginally older than Busted) but their craft--now much given to quoting from the back pages of classic Seventies rock from the Stones ("Dancin' In The Wind") to ELO, 10CC and the pomp pop frisson of Queen ("Believe")--appears to have evolved innately and without any of the unseemly haste evident in many boy bands who find themselves opportunistically shunted into the arms of older consumers by marketing extremists. Largely self-penned but with a brace of co-writes courtesy of Matthew Sweet and former New Radical Gregg Alexander, IUnderneath/I does suffer the odd beige moment but with quality songs like "Misery" ( Jayhawks gone bitter) or the magical hidden bonus track "Lulla Belle" ( Beach Boys meets Mercury Rev) this record is very much Hanson's high water-mark. I--Kevin Maidment/I

All grown up. July 24, 2004 K. Field (Brighton, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Like most of the world, I forgot about the boys from Tulsa once Mmmbop had become boring. Ok, they had a couple more minor hits from the Middle of Nowhere album, but nothing to write home about. brIt was pure chance that I stumbled across them earlier this year, and guess what, a new album was on it's way. Curiosity got the better of me and I downloaded a couple of tracks, boy was I in for a surprise.brUnderneath is already fast becoming my soundtrack to this summer, I just can't stop listening to this great disc. It has a perfect blend of both upbeat 'bubble-gum rock' with the likes of Deeper and Get Up and Go, while tracks like Penney and Me, and Misery have a laid-back, mellow, accoustic feel to them.brGreat stuff. Go Buy. :)
Must-have album! May 8, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After waiting for about 3-4 years for another Hanson release after This Time Around, Underneath proves Hanson's pure talent as musicians. They never cease to amaze me with their music. Underneath is a journey. Non-Hanson fans should give this record a try because it may pleasantly surprise you! I just love the rocky numbers like 'Lost Without Each Other' and 'Get Up and Go' and softer songs like, 'Broken Angel' sung by Zac. Overall I'd rate this 10/10, it's got such a mix of different styles of music, deep lyrics. It is a lot more different to Hanson's past records... really is an album worth buying.
Hanson Rock March 29, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This album is great. Hanson are definitely not for a teenage audience only. I am 30 and this is my favourite album of the year so far. The sound is rock/pop and every song on the album is great. If they can get their songs to reach a wider audience their success would be guaranteed. They fit nicely in my collection between Coldplay, Keane and Maroon 5.
A big change!!! February 27, 2005 Catherine (Bishop's Stortford, United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What a difference it can make in seven years! We first saw them in 97 with mmmbop but now in 2005 with a fab album! The album is totally diiferent to the original stuff, its more rock/pop than pop itself. The album has catchy songs and quite easily make you happy. There is upbeat songs such as Lost Without Each Other and Get Up And Go but there is some slow and peaceful songs such as Broken Angel and Underneath. All the tracks are great and there is no fault with any of them, honest! This album (I think)can be for all ages, not just for teenagers like me! Im very indie rock listener and this is great to add to my collection and to yours too. So buy it today!

I just want to say that i really have enjoyed this album. Normally i only find half the songs on albums are to my taste, but at least ten of these i have really enjoyed. Voices - brilliant. Varied songs - spot on. I just think its an album worth giving a try. The songs are good enough to stick in your mind, leaving you wanting more of them.
