Amazon.co.uk Review So long, tatty Warped Tour T-shirt, goodbye day-glo pedal pushers: ILove Angel Music Baby/I, the debut solo album from No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, finds this former ska-punk tomboy embracing `80s electro-pop, digital RB, and the glamorous lifestyle of the international jetsetter. Laden with special guests (Andre 3000, Dr Dre, New Order), name-dropping the likes of Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, and packed with guilt-free references to conspicuous consumption, tracks like "Luxurious"--a cut of velvety G-Funk that sees Gwen cooing "Champagne kisses/ Hold me in your lap of luxury"--may well be an instant turn-off to fans more familiar with Gwen's punk-rock roots. Luckily, there's some fine pop crossover moments here that should pretty much appeal across the board: "Hollaback Girl" finds Gwen riding a Neptunes beat that's as minimal as anything in their oeuvre, spare boom-crash percussion and wisps of acoustic guitar undercut by floor-shaking bass whoomp, while "Rich Girl" featuring Eve, repaying the favour for 2002's "Let Me Blow Your Mind", raids Fiddler On The Roof and comes out with a great pop hook. As an album, it's not totally devoid of filler, but ILove Angel Music Baby/I will break Gwen to a whole new fanbase, and deservedly so.--ILouis Pattison/I

The best of 80's pop, all on one record with a modern edge December 13, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This album is really great, with no bad songs at all. The worst it gets is with 'A Long Way to Go', but when you get past the excruciatingly cliched first few lines, the song isn't actually too bad.p The best songs are 'What You Waiting For?', 'Hollaback Girl', 'Bubble Pop Electric', 'Crash' and 'Danger Zone', very closely followed by the likes of 'Rich Girl' and 'Serious'. The others are also very great.p This is definitely inspired by Madonna and other 80's pop, but being born during the 80's, I do not know who else specifically. However, this album is more like a greatest hits collection, and all songs have a different feel and style. An amazing album!
A true hit July 21, 2005 sf20 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Gwen Stefani has always been noted for her individual style, and her hard work on Love Angel Music Baby has resulted in a classy and stylised album with a superb tracklist of brassy songs. I bought this album on the basis I enjoyed What You Waiting For, Rich Girl and Hollaback Girl, but the album offers far more than this. 'Bubble Pop Electric' is a track everyone is bound to enjoy, 'Cool' and 'The Real Thing' are mild and touching, and 'Harajuku Girls' gives an insight into this unique subculture Stefani so admires. She also collaborates with some notable producers and artists, such as Andre 3000, with powerful results. You won't regret buying this album- the gorgeous Ms Stefani has produced a worthwhile album you can enjoy over and over again.

When I first listened to this CD, I couldn't decide whether I was listening to music influenced by Lena Lovich, Nina Hagen, or American cheerleaders. The vocal stylings of What you waiting for are definitely borrowed from Lucky Number (Lena), and Betty Boop. brHow she can mix Rap sensibility with 80's power pop is brilliant. The entire CD sticks to the Tokyo, geisha girl theme, and is a totally unique piece of work. brI love this cd!!!!
THUMBS UP, GWEN! December 25, 2005 Conor Byrne (Hampshire England) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I#x27;ve always liked Gwen Stefani and here#x27;s my review of the album:p1) What You Waiting For? 5/5 A single we all know by her, it was a massive success and probably my favourite song by her. The #x27;tick-tocks#x27; make it sound even better! Well done Gwen.br2) Rich Girl 4/5 not as good as the one before, but still quite good, a nice combination with Eve. A good, dance-to song.br3) Hollaback Girl 5/5 a great song with Gwen#x27;s distinctive vocals ringing thru. Another single, released 23rd May, it was a big success and another big success for Gwen.br4) Cool 5/5 one of my personal favourites, a beautiful ballad about Gwen#x27;s partner and how they turned into simple but good friends. The 4th single, it was released 29th August, and though it wasn#x27;t a massive success, it#x27;s still a lovely song.br5) Bubble Pop Electric 3.5/5 an interesting song about Gwen and her lover. A little odd, with dancing tunes and a bit of rapping.br6) Luxurious 4/5 the 5th and final single, out 5th December. Quite a cool song, the lyrics are very enjoyable and funny. Thumbs up!br7) Harajaku Girls 3/5 not a very well-made song, Gwen mentions #x27;Harajuku girls#x27; all through the CD. Quite good, but very boring after a while.br8) Crash 3/5 an OK song that isn#x27;t bad or good. br9) The Real Thing 5/5 a song that I LOVE. Should#x27;ve been a single, in my opinion.br10) Serious 3/5 not bad, not good, like #x27;Crash#x27;.br11) Danger Zone 3.5/5 fairly good, Gwen#x27;s vocals are good on this one.br12) Long Way to Go 2/5 the weakest track on the CD, I don#x27;t like this song very much. A bad way to end the album.br13) Real Thing Remix 4/5 quite a good song, one bonus track.br14) What You Waiting For Remix 5/5 a GREAT song, just as good as the 1st. brOVERALL: a brilliant album, 100/100.brBEST SONGS: What You Waiting For, Hollaback Girl, Cool, Real ThingbrWORST SONGS: Serious, Long Way to Go, CrashbrA great cd, a must-have in my opinion!!!
Gwen's Undoubtedly a Star December 2, 2004 Amanda Richards (ECD, Guyana) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
The opening track "What You Waiting For?" splashes the listener with a refreshing burst of energy, Stefani-style, and never stops bubbling from there. pAfter the first "tick tock" gets your heart pumping, Gwen brings in Eve to raise the temperature with "Rich Girl" (produced by Dr. Dre), a bouncy number that will have you heading for the nearest dance floor. pWhat follows is a fizzy pop explosion, compliments of the Neptunes, Jimmy Jam Terry Lewis, Tony Kanal and the ever funky Andre 3000. pGwen thoughtfully inserts some slower numbers to keep cardiac arrest at bay, with "Cool", reminiscent of The Cars; "Luxurious", which samples the Isley Brothers' "Between the Sheets"; "Serious", which could have been an early Madonna hit; and "The Real Thing", clearly inspired by Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time". pThe closing "Long Way to Go" would be at home on any Outkast album, with it's madcap mixed rhythms and weird beat. pCollaborating with some of the freshest minds in music, Gwen delivers an eclectic mix of fun, guaranteed to please many people on your gift list. pAmanda Richards
