5 out of 5 stars Elvis' first great album   March 20, 2005
Mr. J. Hadwin (England, Liverpool)

Elvis' first Album was a rag tailed affair, pulling together tracks Steve Sholes (and before him Sam Phillips) didn't feel were suitable for single release. The Sun sides were less than great, and "I Love You Because" is just poor. That is except the breathtaking "Trying To Get To You". Why was this not a single? This was easily one of Elvis' best songs, and his father's favourite. Good taste.pOther highlights of Elvis' first outing where a rocking version of "I've Got A Woman", "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down A Cry" and the breathtaking "Blue Suede Shoes", that didn't appear as a single for legal reasons only.pThe additional material makes this a 5 start album. "Heartbreak Hotel" is probably his best single, moody and brilliant. "I was The One" was also one of this best ballads, it'd be a while before he reached these heights with a ballad again, though "I Want You I Need You" came close.p"Shake Rattle And Roll" and "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" showed how Elvis struggled for material, but are great songs.pAnd the best to last. "My Baby Left Me" is one of Elvis' best songs, and anyone who thinks Elvis' career stopped when he left sun and listen to this breathtaking barnstormed.

5 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll milestone album in superb sound !   September 6, 2007

This was originaly Elvis Presley's first LP, and it belonges in top 200 R'n'R albums Hall of Fame. br /Remastering was done by Kevan Budd, who also did 'Elvis at Sun' and his second LP simply titled 'Elvis'. br /If you want early material in superb sound - this is it! br /With crisp, clear sound featured here you can realy enjoy virtuoso guitar of Scotty Moore Chet Atkins, br /that constant slapping bass of Bill Black or smart drum rolls of D.J. Fontana, and hear other musicians in all their glory. br /Far better sound then on 50's masters boxset. br / br /Booklet and CD are done in the style of original LP release. br /With smartly chosen bonus songs this makes one of the greatest R'n'R br /CDs you can buy.

Elvis Presley wasn't the first to sing or record music which could be labelled rock n' roll. And the grumpy, embittered Chuck Berry is certainly the real king of rock n' roll, no matter how many girls were screaming when Elvis wiggled his little finger. pBut this album, Elvis Presley's first LP, is something very special. It burns with energy, and to me, these early Sun and RCA sides remain his crowning achievement...this is when Presley made his lasting impact. This is the music that made him the living image of rock n' roll, and made him the musician most responsible for popularizing the genre on an international level.pCombining of RB, pop, country, rockabilly and blues, this album is fresh and innovative and completely seductive. Much toughejr and grittier than Presley's often sugary second LP, it goes from highlight to highlight..."Blue Suede Shoes", "Money Honey", "One-Sided Love Affair", the melodic rock shuffle "Tryin' To Get To You".brAnd the six bonus tracks, all of which are singles recorded the same year but not issued on any of Presley's early LPs, make this landmark record even greater. They include his first #1 hit, "Heartbreak Hotel", the swaggering RB of "Lawdy Miss Clawdy", and Presley's reading of Big Joe Turner's hit "Shake, Rattle Roll" (Turner's version is still the best, though ;-)pThis attractively packaged reissue is an essential piece of music history, right up there with Chuck Berry's early rock n' roll singles, the Beatles, Muddy Waters, Son House and Robert Johnson, T-Bone Walker, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton and Charlie Parker.brAnd it's great fun, too!

With his original line up, Elvis and the boys really kick socks here. In it's newly remastered form with bonus tracks this is a true classic which stands the test of time at 50 years old!

This was the first effort of someone who demonstrated to be one of the best voices the world have ever heard; Elvis was the most charismatic artist and singer in history and this cd is an invaluable jewel to everyone who loves the original and classic Rock'n'Roll music; incredible pieces like BLUE SUEDE SHOES, TUTTY FRUTTY and MONEY HONEY; number one songs like HEARTBREAK HOTEL, I WANT YOU I NEED YOU I LOVE YOU and brilliant ballads like BLUE MOON and I'M COUNTING ON YOU; with this disc Elvis was catapulted to the great years of RCA and his unforgettable fame!!
