Amazon.co.uk Review
Since her 1993 debut, ITuesday Night Music Club/I, Sheryl Crow has been churning out unassailably appealing CDs in an unassailably appealing voice. Which means, according to the rules of the pop music cosmos, by album six it's about time for a misstep. Natural law, fortunately, will have to keep checking its watch. IWildflower/I moves Sheryl Crow one step closer to Hall of Fame status as she shunts the established rock star's impulse to get all experimental, but instead sprawls, rambling rose-like, across the substance-spiked pop landscape she helped pioneer. Three ingredients, glistening vocals, flawless production, and catchy songs rub up against one another in all the right places. These ingredients will cause you to hold your breath on the beautiful piano ballad "Always on Your Side." They pop up again on the George Harrison-esque "Where Has All the Love Gone" reminding you that Crow can reflect and reveal as convincingly as she can rock. If there is a ripple that runs through IWildflower,/I it's a pensive one. On the spacy "Chances Are," she sings of being "...lost inside a daydream." The measure of her talent, ripe and reappraisal-resistant, is her ability to consistently bring us inside the bubble with her. I--Tammy La Gorce/I

5 out of 5 stars Just What I Needed   October 13, 2005

I have always been in love with Sheryl Crow's music and how each of her songs are uniquely more beautiful from the one before. When i heard she released a new album i was drawn to get it and read some people's reviews on Amazon, which i usually do before purchasing music for some backup on what its like. I was so disappointed when some people said it wasn't as good as her old stuff, but i totally disagree. It was such a nice suprise when i listened to it. Her riffs are so creative and each song is a "looking out of bedroom window at rain, hugging pillow" song! BUT IN A GOOD uplifting romantic way instead of a "feel sorry for myself" sense. unless you enjoy feeling sorry for yourself that is. but it is very pretty and i recommend this album highly.

5 out of 5 stars She's done it again   October 4, 2005

As with previous Sheryl Crow albums I found that Wildflower requires a few repeat listens for the songs to seep in. At first everything tends to blend into one to give the album a particular theme i.e. as with the raw studio sound of The Globe Sessions and the big sumptuous full-on sound of C'mon C'mon. pMy initial impression of Wildflower is that it has a softer and more melodic flavour to it, which is most apparent with the beautiful title track. But then of course, as with the last two albums, after a few more listens the tracks define themselves in your mind and stand out more and more, and now they won't leave me alone! pThe album contains many wonderfully enduring listenable songs. This CD will happily sit unmoved in my stereo for a very long time. I especially have the words and melodies of 'I Know Why', 'Good is Good', 'Lifetimes' and 'Live It Up' waltzing through my head continuously. The latter is the most radio friendly of the lot and really ought to be a single. pFor those who were disappointed with the 'big noise' polished sound of C'mon C'mon this album can be considered a return to form. For those, like me, who love all of her albums equally, well, you don't need to be reading reviews; you know you're going to love this one as well! Wildflower is yet another great album.

5 out of 5 stars Impressive   September 29, 2005

I am very impressed by Ms Crow's new album. The songs seem more pared down, mature and expressive than on previous albums. pStand-out tracks include "Good is Good", "Letter to God" and "Chances Are". The only song I find a bit trite is the final track "Where Has All the Love Gone"...I've never been a huge fan of simplistic, Beatles-esque rip-offs...so there you go.pI highly recommend buying this album though as it's much better that her previous album...although 'The Globe Sessions' remains my fave.pGo listen to it.

5 out of 5 stars a great record   October 3, 2005

i don't know why some fans don't like it just beacuse she doesn't rock out here; i think it's a great and introspective record about our daily lives and has great melodies, beautiful arrangement and meaningful and touching lyrics about some important themes. She has already proven in the last years she can rock why she couldn't make a record like this especially after the Very Best Of huge success? artists should always make records without the pressure to meet fans expectations, it's a great limit to creativity for me.brI recommend the deluxe edition DVD too 'cause it has beautiful acoustic versions in great indoor and outdoor locations.brOne of the best records i've bought recently.

5 out of 5 stars Sheryl's most consistent album to date   September 29, 2005

I've long been a fan of Sheryl Crow but think her albums have been a bit inconsistent. This one definitely isn't. While lacking a top ten hit, it features some really beautiful songs with subtle melodies which grow on you with every listen. Her voice sounds better than ever too.pIf I had to name standout tracks I'd go for Live It Up, the most upbeat track with a cracking chorus and Letter To God, the harmonies of which remind me a bit of Neil Finn (in fact a few tracks sound a bit Crowded House-esque). Always On Your Side is nice too - piano led as opposed to the acoustic guitars which lead in most of the tracks.pI don't know how well this'll do as Sheryl's type of music is hardly cutting edge these days. But if you want a good old fashioned singer-songwriter album you should try this out.
