Amazon.co.uk Review
Even when he was a full-time jazz cat, Quincy Jones always had an ear for the pop aesthetic. This 1962 record does contain a good bit of, how you say, iqueijo/i in its unsubtle arrangements, but it is for the most part an accessible, entertaining, and bubbly affair. And with musicians of the calibre of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Paul Gonsalves, Clark Terry, Jim Hall (who can't help but be tasteful), and Phil Woods all contributing ideas, a baseline quality is assured. Most significantly, Jones goes beyond the expected Jobim and Bonfa cuts to fit Lerner Loewe and even Mingus into bossa nova's bright clothes. i--Marc Greilsamer /i

5 out of 5 stars Master of Mojo!   February 21, 2006

As an arrager and collaborator with everyone from Count Basie, through Miles Davis to Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones is peerless. He has huge skill in getting a sound that is required. This piece of Latin Jazz history has, I guess, been revived by its central role in putting the mojo in the Austen Powers movies. Although Mike Meyers seems to specialise in disposible light comedy we have much to thank him for not leasr for helping to focus attention on this brilliant album, which many of us would previously have thought of as too cheesy for our tastes. Soul Bossa Nova is just one of the jems here. If you are still woried about this making you look too uncool then you can always turn up your CD Player full blast and put on Miles Davis Knd of Blue*/The Arctic Monkeys*/The Complete Wangner#x27;s Ring Cycle* (*delete as appropriate)afterwards. Good-time music for people who want music that puts a smile on their face.

5 out of 5 stars Much more than Austin Powers   August 7, 2002

From 'My Definition' to Austin Powers via the World Cup 1998, the title track of this album is everywhere. What about the rest of it though? It's great! Big, brassy, Latin-esque, uplifting music to put a smile on any face. It's the CD I put on when I want a lift, when I want to end up jumping around the house like a fool or just before I'm going to go out. Infectious and always a crowd pleaser...

If you only buy one Quincy Jones CD then this is the one to have. This CD is a real gem and one of my favourite CD's - every track is quality. This is good-time music that will won't fail to put you in a playful mood, a real joy to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Best Bossa Nova band music that all ages can relate to   October 13, 2008

I'm not a music expert or anything like that. i just know that I like a good melody and pleasant sounds. I listen to this music in the car together with my 8 year old son and it puts a smile on both our faces. When ever I play this CD, anyone that hears it enjoys it's melodies and I keep havingt to buy it for my friends. This music is timeless and certainly sells Quincy Jones as a guy with a good ear for arranging different sounds and tempos within a piece of music. We can't get enough of the trumpets on No 3 i.e "Desafinado". We love the percussions in "Samba de Una Nota So" i.e tract 7. The flutes on track 9 and the trumpets on track 9 we could listen to over and over again. You can't go wrong with this music. My Dad is 70, I'm in my forties and my son is 8 and we all get this music. definately a quality buy.
