Great but not as perfect as Get rich or die trying April 14, 2007 M. O. Agboola (London) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This aldum gd nice G'd UP album. The album has is a bit of let down compared to his debute album but this album as plenty of hits on it like piggy bank and many more. but this album the type of album in which if you either like it or not.
br /hope this has helped you.
br /bless
U must be out your mind January 26, 2009 Mr. D. J. Howarth (London) With innovative tunes like Baltimore love-thing, zoned out tunes like Ryder music, and bangers like Guns come out and I'm supposed to die tonight this is the best thing since Get-Rich. Hats off, this albums three letters... B.I.G !!!
surprised me May 1, 2009 K. Mccrae (Manchester, England) 50 cent continues to surprise me...
br /I liked Get Rich or Die Tryin' from the off, but it's pretty damn hard not to like stuff that the good doctor is responsible for. I also liked his guest spots on other songs, always made a good contribution. Then I heard the first few singles off this album, and I thought they were terrible. My flat mate bought it when it was released and told me not to bother listening to it in its' entirety, that it was all garbage. How could a rapper be so hit-and-miss? Great on occassion and appaulling on others? Baffles me!
br /But, as they say; 'One should not judge a book by its' cover' or indeed an album by a single or two. I listened to the whole of it recently, and it is infact very good, despite not having Dr. Dre as the main producer. There are only a few tracks that I skip past, and the rest is quality. Very Good. He comes up with some great lines, gives me a buzz and a giggle and is great for working out to. Seems to have a load of tracks on there, could've been a double album! My only question is: is he really as much of a gangster as he makes himself out to be? A big time, murdering, drug dealing, gun-running nutcase? Oh well, either way it matters little. This is a quality album that made me eat my words and it has taken up a virtual monopoly of IPod listening time for the past month or so. I just hope that Eminem returns to form on his new album, the early signs are not encouraging, it sounds like that he has continued his gimmicky lightweight ways from Encore, rather than his incredible, unbeatbale best from his first three albums.
FEELS RUSHED August 13, 2007 stuart (MIDDLESBROUGH, ENGLAND) Following up one of the biggest debuts in hip-hop history, crack dealer turned charisma dealer 50 Cent makes some bold moves, recycles plenty of old ideas, and sprinkles in some perfect party singles for The Massacre. Crafty man that he is, 50 must have known following up the massive Get Rich or Die Tryin' was going to be extremely difficult, especially for a rapper rightfully known more for creating headlines than rhymes. To cushion the blow, 50 released an album by his G-Unit crew, made numerous guest appearances on other artist's tracks, and helmed ten mixtapes in his G-Unit Radio series. It kept the debut momentum moving and it's half the reason why The Massacre doesn't feel like Get Rich's proper successor, the other half being the album's effortless attitude. That's the most frustrating thing about the otherwise satisfying Massacre. At worst, it feels unfinished, and at best, it feels like a mixtape cobbled together from mostly choice tracks but without that overseer's polish. At a stunning, slightly overstuffed 78 minutes, it's overwhelming, too, but without a perfect flow to hold the listener's hand the whole way through, it's also a testament to 50 and crew that The Massacre doesn't test your patience until after the one-hour mark. Silly and short intro out of the way, the slinky "In My Hood" gets down to business and gives way to four tracks of the same-old, same-old bravado and beats that are still just as stunning and catchy as hell. "I'm Supposed to Die Tonight" and "Gatman and Robbin" are both great tracks from the quirky/macabre house of Eminem, but it's the Fat Joe-dissing "Piggy Bank" that steals the show. Like "Candy Shop," "Outta Control," "Disco Inferno," and on and on, "Piggy Bank" succeeds because of its serviceable rap, believable swagger, inescapable hook, and phatter than phat beats. For those who've had it with the gunshots, the Shady/Aftermath boasting, and the usual "G-G-G-G-Unit!" shouts, The Massacre has just enough surprises. Besides mentioning Kurt Cobain and Ozzy Osbourne, "A Baltimore Love Thing" is the big shocker as 50 poignantly tells the tale of a heroin-addicted girlfriend destroying all that's good. "Ryder Music" is more easygoing than expected, "Build You Up" (featuring Jamie Foxx) is actually sweet, and "God Gave Me Style" has just about the dreamiest beat in the G-Unit universe. Scott Storch, Dr. Dre, and Eminem are the only big names in the producer's chair, but everyone else serves up fine tracks, especially the great Needlz. Guest spots are kept to a bare minimum and besides the intro, skits are nonexistent. Trim a couple tracks and a couple beefs and rearrange the album and you have what sounds like Get Rich's lesser sequel, but The Massacre doesn't look back. It really just wants to challenge other rappers' albums and not its predecessor. Taken that way, it's an excellent effort.
OTT Gangster June 16, 2007 Reviewer of Flitwick (UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
i heard the songs Candy shop and Just a little bit on on of the 'music chanels'. At the time the songs seemed great, i went out and bought the album a little while later and i must admit i wish i hadnt. i opened the CD booklet to find a picture of 50 sourrounded by a host of guns. Not being a Gangster myself i thought it pretty rubbish and tacky. the songs were not much better either, i only found 3 songs i liked, the rest were to much like all the other pop songs you hear nowadays, i thought he was a gangster!
br /Be really careful when buying this album, only spend the money if you are really into 50 cent otherwise leave it alone!
