5 out of 5 stars Kenny Rocks On!   January 7, 2006

Traditional country he's not. That doesn't seem to stop Kenny Chesney, though. With a definite and decisive beat (lots of them), Mr. Chesney continues to "be as he is" and strikes yet another home run with "The Road and the Radio," his latest hot (and hottie!) CD. Some music lovers question the lack of original lyrics by Kenny, but ultimately it's the SOUND we hear that's important, not the author of the words. pDefinitely continuing in his inimical style--well, to a point--Chesney doesn't look back (except in his lyrics!) and marches to his own drummers (and full band) in clearly and decisively declaring his own identity and trademark. In-your-face country with a back beat (that even impresses Chuck Berry), Kenny's musical odyssey continues like Sherman to Atlanta (but without the after effects of that other campaign!). And who needs Rene for this?pTraditionalists (and even country purists), of course, continue to roll their eyes at the turn of "their" music, arguing (perhaps rightfully so) that the likes of Chesney, Twain, Dixie Chicks, even Garth are merely mutants headed in obscene directions, but the fans, who aren't so set in their ways, don't mind.

Kenny has cemented himself amongst CMTS big names, but util this album, i never got around to really listening to him, my collection is made up more of names like McGraw and Hill, Martina McBride, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Leanne Rimes and Rascal Flatts. But on our annual holiday to Naples Florida, i heard one of his songs on Gator Country radio. Its possibly one of the most emmotional and beautiful songs i have ever heard,.. emmotional because its about a young woman being taken well before her time,.. beautifull, because he sings this with the care and love of someone, who like me, has experienced this himself. The lyrics are just amazing, its like hes speaking my mind with how he questions death, and how unfair it is, but at the same time, the music soothes the pain in your soul. Words like 'It aint fair, you died too young, like a story that had just begun,.. but death tore the pages all away',... and 'Sunny days seem to hurt the most, i wear the pain like a heavy coat, i still cant believe your gone' should give you an idea as to how special, and indeed accurate this song really is. Its called, 'Who you'd be Today', track 3, and for me,... the albums worth its money right there. The song however is far from depressing, i actually found it comforted me.... br / br /The rest of the album is superb also. Summertime, is just fantastic, however that track in particular sounds much better in Florida in 95 degrees with the top down on your Mustang, than here in N. Ireland when its chucking it down and you cant see out your window with condensation! All the other songs are very nice, and some of them are growing stronger on me each day. I now suspect Mr Chesney has a whole backlog of superb music waiting for me to experience, and after listening to this, i am more eager than ever to find out more... so much so im booked to see him in Madison Square Garden when we visit New York again in August,.. and i cant wait.

Just heard the album. Will need a few more listens to get used to it. Summertime is a fantastic track. When the sun goes down was far better!
