Absolutely Amazing March 19, 2006 M. PALMER 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
At first I wasn#x27;t too sure if I wanted this album as a lot of the songs were unknown to me but I bought it and its great! I love every song on the album. Listening to Lemmy#x27;s version of #x27;Stand By Your Man#x27; was great fun. Prepare for a shock!brOther reviewers have said that it could be better but I just love it. It makes a change to listen to some of the more rare and unheard of tracks.brIts also got a great booklet in it telling you about some of the songs on the album and about Lemmy#x27;s life.brFor only #163;10 its a bargain. Well worth buying!
Bloody Brilliant!!!!! February 15, 2006 Mr. P. D. Simpson (uk) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Excelant to have all these Lemmy/motorhead and more rarities on two cd#x27;s, although it would of been really good to have Orgasmatron, particularly a live cut from the 87 to 89 period, shame you can#x27;t have it all, it was great NOT to have Ace of spades as well! The track listing from Amazon is slightly wrong it also includes whiplash and the trooper, Bloody brilliant!!!!!
NOT a Best Of Motorhead album? Good! February 23, 2006 Mr. A. L. Holloway (#) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Not so much the best of Lemmy, but just about all the obscure stuff fans have ever clamoured for in one tidy package, this double CD should be eagerly devoured by fans of Mr Kilminster who don#x27;t believe that Motorhead are the beginning, middle and end of his career.pIn fact, Lemmy began his career with a Northern rock and roll group, The Rockin Vickers in the mid 60#x27;s, and the bands three singles are included here. Other hard to get Lemtastic collaborations on offer include the truly awful #8220;Stand By Your Man#8221; with Wendy O Williams, hawkwinds crap version of #8220;Motorhead#8221;, a great metal version of #8220;Blue Suede Shoes#8221; by Lemmy and the Upsetters and a good stab at #8220;Ballroom Blitz#8221; by The Damned. Put it this way #8211; there#x27;s more variety here than a decade at the London Palladium in the 70s.pThe appeal of this compilation really depends on the appeal that Lemmy has for you. If you consider him #8220;That shouty bloke out of Motorhead#8221; then you#x27;re unlikely to get much out of this. On the other hand, if the idea of owning Lem#x27;s #8220;Hellraiser#8221; theme as well as covers of #8220;Enter Sandman#8221;, #8220;R.A.M.O.N.E.S#8221; and #8220;The Trooper#8221; fills you with joy, then this is the album for you. pThere#x27;s way too much here to go into individual detail, suffice to say it#x27;s sometimes painful, sometimes fantastic, and sometimes enlightening. It#x27;s all here, Motorboys and girls, so take a look at the track listing and make your own mind up.
Complaining about song selection? You're an idiot. April 11, 2006 ravenheart (Rayleigh, ENGLAND) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Lemmy has been around for a very long time. And in that time he's played with a huge number of people on a huge number of different labels. Therefore, getting permission to have a free pick of material is impossible, and to think it is possible is idiocy. So those complaining that certain Motorhead or Hawkwind tracks, or certain tribute CD covers are missing are stupid people who have no idea how the music industry works. pTo have the wealth of material on this album, given the number of labels some of this stuff comes from, is pretty amazing, and fans are lucky this has even been possible. pAlso on the point of track selection, even if it were possible, what the hell would be the point in including the same (boring) tracks from the '80s Motorhead albums like Ace of Spades? They're on every £2.99 Motorhead compilation there is. It would be an utter waste of time, money and effort. At least by getting permission to include things like 1916 opens the eyes of the largely blind public to the far superior '90s Motorhead material and will hopefully force them to realise that they should stop following the popular opinion that Ace of Spades is Motorhead's finest moment (as always, popular opinions are wildly wrong) and check out the better stuff from later in their career.
2 x Metallica Covers Clinch The 4th Star... March 17, 2008 Adam Jackson (Stoke On Trent , England) This is an interesting collection and certainly of value to all Motorhead/Metallica fans. Main reason i bought this was for the two (studio) Metallica covers;
br /
br /ENTER SANDMAN - Recorded in the late 90's for an ECW Wrestling CD (I know that's offputting) Lets be clear on this - Lemmy sings all the vocals BUT he does not play bass on this track - ALL the instrumentation is provided by an uncredited alternative metal band from California by the name of Zebrahead. Very often this cover is credited as Motorhead and indeed they were originally going to do this 100% their way but logistics at the time meant only Lemmy could just do the vocals and nothing else. Still the music is decent, full metal riffs and drums pound along and its cool to hear Lemmy growl away at this classic in style. Shame we dont hear that Rickenbacker Bass Guitar here mind (the Bass is ok but not as audible as on the original version from 1991 or anything like Lemmy's tone or style).
br /
br /WHIPLASH - Ah now this is 100% MOTORHEAD!!! Lemmy on Bass/Vocals, Mikkey Dee on Drums and Phil Campbell on Guitars.
br /Recorded in 2004 around the time of the Inferno album, this is a monster of a track - Lemmy's Bass is amazing here, very fast, very aggressive and VERY high in the mix, maybe even the dominant instrument. Mikkey Dee lays down some really aggresive drumming with just the right amount of Double Bass footwork. These two are as good a Rhythm section as any in Metal.
br /And Phil Campbell really delivers the goods here, Much faster riffs than the original (again literally fired along by THAT Bass) and a great solo to boot. Lemmy sings as if this were his own (not bad for a guy who at the time was pushing 60!) and even a die hard Metallica fan would agree this is at least equal to Metallica's 1983 anthem (personally im a Metallica fan but i prefer this cover) Great production too. Fat Snare Drum and teeth-rattling Bass really Hammer down!!!
br /
br /There is also a decent enough cover of Iron Maidens' The Trooper but as hard as it tries it cant match Maiden as well on this instance. Still worth a listen though.
br /
br /Factor in loads of other tracks from Lemmy's 30 year career - with and without Motorhead and one or two classics from the 'Head such as Killed By Death and you have a Double CD that should be on any Hard Rock/Metal fans shelf.
