| Customer Reviews: Pay Bo Diddley... June 13, 2009 G. E. Harrison (Cheltenham) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
There are other Bo Diddley compilations but you really need a double CD to cover all Bo's hits, his straight blues and some of his left-field weirdness. This has got to be the definitive collection that covers all those bases to present a great memorial to one of rock and roll's pioneers, a real innovator and a true one-off.

br /All Bo's hits are here, including "Bo Diddley", "Say man", "You Can't Judge a Book By the Cover", "Road Runner" and "Who Do You Love" etc. Also included are songs that were later recorded by white acts, such as "Before you accuse me", "Mona" and "Ride on Josephine". And don't miss some of his real down-home and dirty blues such as "You don't love me (you don't care)" and "She's fine, she's mine" which are equal to anything by Muddy or Wolf. These blues (and the hits) were all recorded using the cream of Chess's roster as backing musicians; including Otis Spann or Lafayette Leake on piano, Little Walter or Billy Boy Arnold on harp, Willie Dixon on bass and Frank Kirkland or Billy Downing on drums.

br /Buy this great collection and as David Lindley's song says "Pay Bo Diddley" (although sadly now after his death the money will go to his estate...)

If you want to buy just one Bo Diddley album then this is the one!

br /Bo Diddley was a huge influence on the British blues revolution of the sixties especially on bands such as; The Rolling Stones, The Pretty Things, The Yardbirds and The Animals, to name just a few. The lyrics of his songs were relatively simple, the secret was in the rhythm! His sound was quite unique and way ahead of it's time.
