Amazon.co.uk Review
Architects of "chill-out" before the term even existed, Nightmares On Wax--the Inom de stoned/I of Leeds-born ex-raver George Evelyn--have ploughed a long and lazy furrow through the genres of reggae, hip-hop, world music and soul in search of the perfect lull. Like the United Kingdom itself, Nightmares' fifth album IIn A Space Outta Sound/I is a composite of diverse, often exotic geography, but importantly never sounds like a work of cultural tourism: on "Damn!", a devious snake charmer's melody weaves almost subliminally beneath gentle, trippy gospel chorusing, while on "African Pirates", cyclical percussive rhythms meld seamlessly with white-gloves acid blips and honking dub bass. p What sidetracks your attention from these rather ambitious splicings is Evelyn's talents for melody and repetition-the showtune horn-screech of "Pudpots", those sweet snatches of vocal that roll around in "Deepdown"'s Balearic tide--subtly working their way into your consciousness with blissful conclusion. Forget the young pretenders of chill like Zero 7 and Mylo, IIn A Space Outta Sound/I confirms Nightmares On Wax remain on a plane of their own.--I Louis Pattison/I

It's been over 3 years since the last NOW album but it's been well worth the wait. For my money Mind Elevation didn't reach the excellence of Carboot Soul or Smokers Delight, but I can assure you that this album touches the brilliance established in the first 2 albums. An ambient yet funky sound that is hard to explain but is very individual to this artist. If you enjoyed any of their past works but are hesitant to buy I can assure you you won't be disappointed.

No nightmare here!!!psmooth bluesy jazz kicks off this album -gorgeous melodic rhythms wash over you, bringing to mind cigar ads and relaxing floating dreams, with more than a touch of reggae. With this album it is still 1972, music merging seamlessly somewhere between soul and blues. pIts A sonic palette taken from each continent, each track presents a facet whether it be the infectious repetitive African percussion sounds of African Pirates, the recurring Caribbean reggae riddims as heard in Sweetest and Flip Ya Lid, the seduction of the Persian snake charmer's harpsichord entwined around Damn!, or Mo-town's soul-laid-bare in I Am You. Sometimes it is a blend of all of the above.pVery cool indeed, I like it a lot! More like this, please George.pBuy it, u will not regret at all, trust me!

5 out of 5 stars Slo-mo grooveliness   August 30, 2006

Nightmares on Wax AKA George Evelyn's music has a unique slant. Once you get where he is coming from you need more...and more. His albums are highly addictive, warmer than Hip hop, cooler than dub, they inhabit a world where everything is groovy. br /This is his best since Car Boot soul, with three standout tracks. Flip Ya Lid, Sweetest, and African Pirates. br /There's a lot of looping and sampling in these hypnotic joints, but there is enough invention and love here to keep the listener transfixed. Vocals where they exist are soulful and restrained. br /Top marks then, for a fantastic collection of grooves from the top drawer that withstand lots of repeat plays. Exceptional.

5 out of 5 stars Sunshine on CD...   March 11, 2008

This is a gorgeous feel-good album. Every track just makes you feel good. br / br /Laced with tripped-out Carribean vibes, it meanders along like you've know it all your life. It's a fabulous chill-out / outdoors in the sun experience too... br / br /Up there with Smokers Delight, this ranks as NOW's other completely essential album. br / br /Get it now and have Summer everyday...
