Amazon.co.uk Review
The buzz for Nelly Furtado's iLoose/i began before the music was even recorded, with the announcement that legendary hip-hop knob-twirler Timbaland (Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake) would act as co-producer. The question on fans' minds: what would it sound like when a hip-hop kingpin collaborated with an artist who culls inspiration not just from pop music, but also her own Portuguese roots?brbr As it turns out, iLoose/i incorporates a number of different styles along its journey, but is--surprisingly--primarily divided between '80s-influenced electronica and latin-infused pop. This disc is very different from Furtado's previous CDs, a fact immediately evident from track one, the new wave-affected "Afraid." A strong opener, the song is the beginning of a 1-2-3 punch of uptempo, infectious dance floor beats. The second cut, "Maneater," also proves to be incredibly catchy, but the verses and keyboard sound too much like they were plucked from electroclash artist Peaches' tree, and originality is lost. The perfect summer pop song follows, the massive hit "Promiscuous," which features clever interplay between Furtado and Timbaland on their sassy duet. From that point, Loose oscillates between the Miami-affected sounds of RB, Latino pop, and reggaeton ("Showtime," "Te Busque," and "No Hay Igual" respectively) and the aforementioned '80s vibe ("Glow," "Do It"). Fans will hear Furtado at her vocal best on "Say It Right" and "In God's Hands"--two of the most lyrically compelling tracks on the disc. --iDenise Sheppard/i

What an absolute stonker of an album. Never previously owned a Nelly album but was more than impressed by the UK single releases Maneater and Promiscuous. The album is jam-packed with cracking tunes - standouts for me are the aforementioned hits as well as Say it Right (fantastic) All good things (the latest UK single) and Wait for You. br / br /I've been kicking myself for taking so long to buy it - highly recommended.

I liked Maneater but on first listen i was a bit let down with the rest of the album. However i listened to it a second time and began to see the tracks individually and i have to say i really really like it now. My favourite song on the whole album is Te Busque. The lyrics are beautiful and Nelly obviously works well with Juanes. All round a very varied and fun album with a serious and romantic side. I approve!

5 out of 5 stars Loose - eccentric, fresh and full of life!   July 16, 2006

"Loose" is the third album from Nelly Furtado. It contains her trademark blend of pop, folk, soft rock and so much more. Unlike the previous two albums "Whoa Nelly" and "Folklore", this album also comes with some more urban tracks that give the album a fresh new vibe. br / br /Afraid feat' Attitude - I love its beat and the lyrics are inspirational, very catchy opening to a great album. 9/10 br /Maneater - the amazing first single, fast, fierce, catchy and truly top quality. 10/10 br /Promiscuous feat' Timbaland - a far more urban track that sounds a little odd against her vocals, but in all its very good. 9/10 br /Glow - very different and wild. That chorus will stick in your head. 8/10 br /Showtime - it is a good track if not a bit of a filler. It's still very likeable. 7.5/10 br /No Hay Igual - the upbeat tone and foreign vocals make this a unique song. 8/10 br /Te Busque - similar to the last track but even more remarkable. 8.5/10 br /Say It Right - the mysterious music brings a haunting ballad with soft and stylish vocals. 9/10 br /Do It - slightly more urban but not as good as Promiscuous. 7/10 br /In God's Hands - a very memorable ballad with a sad yet lifting feel to it. 8/10 br /Wait for you - a more Asian feel here. The song is a little repetitive though. 7/10 br /All Good Things (Come to an end) - I love this one for its lyrics and smooth beat. 8/10 br /Let My Hair Down - a very random and boring filler. Worst track. 5/10 br /Somebody to love - not exactly ground breaking but it closes off a great album. 6/10 br / br /Overall, I highly recommend this album. It is great to listen to and it's sure to get you on your feet, but at the same time some of the tracks are just nice to chill out and listen to. Brilliant, Nelly does it again! br / br / br /

I would have never called myself a fan until I heard say it right. This made me download this album and it is now the most played music on my Mp3 player at the moment. br / br /It is very different from the past albums she has done, which from my point of view is a good thing, as I nver really liked her old stuff. br / br /Say it right is by far the best track on the album, but saying that, there is not one song I don't like. A mixture of different styles come together perfectly. If you have liked the singles off this album I would recommend that you give it a go. By far my favourite album of recent months. 10/10

I love Nelly Furtado and have done since 'Woah Nelly'. I loved her passion and sense for music in general and also for the music she makes. I love the Portuguese influence that she brought forward in her music and this made her unique in my mind. br / br /Despite this, I thought that sometimes her music was a bit outdated and the songs she made had to have something really special about them in order for everyone to like them. I honestly thought Nelly Furtado was gone until she hooked up with genre-defining producer Timbaland... and here she is with the best album shes made to date. br / br /'Loose' is a totally fresh sounding Nelly and I love the 'urban' feel shes brought to her music but also making sure the ethnic influences are still there. br / br /All the songs on this album are good but the stand out tracks for me are... br / br /Afriad br /Maneater br /Promiscuous br /Showtime br /Say It Right br /Do It br /Wait For You br /All Good Things (Come To An End) br / br /'Promiscuous' is my favourite on the album closely followed by 'Wait For You'. br / br /If you never really given Nelly Furtado a chance then I think you should and you should base your opinions of her on this album because this is her best album to date!
