Amazing debut album June 4, 2006 HighLodge (UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
From start to finish this is one of the best debut albums released this year. Highlights of the album being, apart from the singles, Keep Your Eyes Peeled and By My Side. The energy and youth of the cowbridge 4 piece is reflected in the songs, each of which is brimming with style from start to finish. There is not a weak song on this album and I would highly recommend it.
A New Energy! June 27, 2006 M. Collins (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album is one that will get you singing, playnig air guitar and jumping around trynig to be Pennie the hyperactive synth/vocals band member.

br /Once you've bought this album make sure you see them live, they won't disapoint! Absolutely great!

br /Everyone seems to be tipping this as one of the albums of the year. I think that is a serious and credible idea! Keep your eyes pealed!
In terms of enjoyment! July 3, 2007 Malc 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ok I accept the criticism of the other reviewers here - there is way too much repetition in this album and certainly a couple of tracks at least that seem largely unneccessary. I still love it though. The 5 star mark is based purely on my own enjoyment of the record. About half the songs are, in my opinion, genuinely very good. Even the weaker ones are rescued by the sharp sound and the bands deranged enthusiasm (although keyboardist Pennie has worryingly begun expressing unhappiness with the material).

br /Opening track 'That's what she said' is a dance-punk call to arms while 'Recover' reveals a thrilling glimpse of The Automatic's hardcore background. The stand out track for me is 'By my side' which sounds a bit like Refused doing the Doctor Who theme - this is actually a very good thing! Oh, and there's this song called 'Monster' but you might have heard that already.
This is the itch that hasn't been scratched in a long time!! July 10, 2006 the robster (Chelmsford, UK) 8 out of 13 found this review helpful
This superb album from the Welsh quartet thunders and pounds from your speakers, hurling fantastic sounds about the room.

br /Fantastic singles 'Recover', 'Raoul' and hit 'Monster' lay strong foundations for other superb songs - outstanding ones including 'On the Campaign Trail', 'Team Drama' and 'You Shout You Shout You Shout!' storm about with blistering riffs against strong vocals from the lead singer, backed up with curious yet fantastic squawks from the keyboardist Pennie.
br /
br /One of the highlights of the album is a pure gem towards the end in the form of 'By My Side' which soars and explodes with incredible power and inspiration - hurling the lyrics "Is this the end of the world????" cast against an acid-like riff which will get you dancing no matter what your music taste!
br /
br /I'm yet to find a fault in this album and it has been on constant repeat since I purchased it - getting better with each play! An absolute classic that I cannot recommend enough!

br /Love, treasure and rock out to this album[...].
What makes these Welsh guys so angry? July 3, 2006 David Barnes (UK) 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
My visits to Wales have always been spent in peaceful enjoyment of the rolling hills or beautiful west coast. So what's turned it into a hot bed of rage for the likes of Automatic and boisterous brassers Adequate Seven? Is it because shopkeepers stop speaking English as soon as you enter the shop?
br /
br /Whatever it is that's causing this angst, let's hope they keep it up.
