5 out of 5 stars Durty South Stand Up!!!   October 6, 2006

The best album of '06 bar none! br / br /Ricky Rossss spits some of the best verses I heard in sometime and that just keeps on getting better with every track you listen to. The tracks that I believe make up his life in a nutshell include "Push It" (J.R Rotem produced a banger) and "Hustlin" (a brief but in-depth look at the streets of M.I.A.), but having said that this album should pretty much give a license to others from M.I.A. to succeed. br / br /If there is one album YOU buy this year make it THIS, cuz this will push the others to the limit!!!

5 out of 5 stars This will blow you away!   October 13, 2006

I have to confess I had never heard of Rick Ross and only encountered him when I downloaded a track by mistake. But this was enough. I was hooked and got the whole album. This is stomping, hard, pulsating gangsta rap. Every track has a strong rythm and bassline and is remarkably tuneful too. This will definitely appeal to fans of 50 Cent and The Game. And rockers who are into the likes of Linkin Park and Papa Roach should definitely check this out too. Just one gripe. Most songs are awash with swear words. Unnecessary. They would have been just as strong if Rick Ross had kept it clean. Otherwise an awesome album.

4 out of 5 stars He definately has a Star Quality (3.5 Stars)   November 28, 2008

Before his official introduction to the commercial rap world "Hustlin" I'd only heard a few freestyles from the man that did not impress me. Even after hearing "Hustlin" a few times I still wasn't convinced, but Rick Ross has a way of growing on you and by the time the album was released I was hooked. br / br /The debut from Ross is good except it is too long. You can tell that he was trying to make a classic and as with most debuts he had a lot to say. However somewhere in the process he over did it. br / br /The album has more hot tracks than most. My favourites are br /"Push It" - What a way to open an album br /"Hustlin" - Hands down the street single of the year br /"Cross That Line" - Akon is on fire br /"Blow" - Another Cool Dre banger (perhaps a year late) br /"Boss" - A Ross anthem br /"For Da Low" - Jazze Pha classic (also might be a year late) br /"Where My Money (I Need That)", "Hit U From The Back", "Prayer" br / br /And the point here is that for such a one dimensional album (drugs, money girls) he did not need to make it so long. There is enough stellar material to make one great 50 minute album. br / br /So what does he do well? He's slow delivery allows you to hang on to every word, his repetitive lyrics make it easier to rap along and his beat selection is top notch. He also possesses a charm swagger that is comparable to Young Jeezy Weezy. If only he had the confidence self esteem to open up a little more artistically. We know he is a boss who is rich from hustlin, rides hot cars has nice girls, surely there's more to his story.
