Album of the year? (2006) January 14, 2007 N. Hudson (Soham, Cambridgeshire, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've read a couple of reviews that say this is not an album which blows you away on the first listen. I have to say that it had the complete opposite effect on me! The opening line of the album ("Alright, this is from our hearts") couldn't seem to be more apt.
br /
br /I'm not normally a fan of screaming vocals, so George Pettit would on its own be too extreme to appeal to me. I have to agree with other reviewers who have said that Dallas Green's vocals are what make the band work so well as it does. That's not to take credit away from the other members of the band. Effectively AOF has three great singers (albeit of different styles), and five great musicians. The music is very tight, and the production is great! The sound is really crisp and intense.
br /
br /I also have to disagree with some reviews which have said that Crisis is not as heavy as their previous two albums. Overall, I would say that the album is more extreme than both Watch Out! and their self-titled debut. Sure it is softer and melodic in parts than its predecessors, but it is also harder and more powerful in others.
br /
br /I've read a couple of reviews that give the impression that Crisis is a near-perfect album, but for one unnecessary and out-of-place track: "You Burn First". To me this is bewildering, because I think that track is amazing, and fits perfectly with the tracks around it. It also comes at just the right time in the record. So what if it has guest vocals, rather than one of the three AOF vocalists? They still sound pretty damn good, don't they? If I absolutely had to lose one track (and to be honest, I do like them all), it would be the title track - go figure!
br /
br /What I would say to anyone who does like this CD (and if you've read this far into the review, chances are you will do), is to check out a couple of New Zealand bands. I would be very surprised if an AOF fan did not like either or both Blindspott and the Bleeders. In fact, if the two were to collaborate, their sound would be very reminiscent of AOF!
br /
br /Blindspott has a similar sound with it's screaming and melodic counterpoint (though all from one vocalist), but has less of a punk sound than AOF. The Bleeders, on the other hand, have the punk sound, but the vocal stylings are not so similar. Check out both Blindspott's self-titled debut, and "End The Silence", and the Bleeder's debut "As Sweet As Sin". All three are available on Amazon, though you may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere.

Super Excellent July 27, 2006 Ollie T (Nottingham, UK) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This review is genuine cos i downloaded the advanced release and this album is awesome!
br /its very much the same as there other albums in style, in other words i don't think there's anything new, but if u like Watch Out! especially then you will definetly like this.
br /To conclude, although its a very similar sound its ok, because this band r pretty unique and what the fans want is more of the same! :D
They've done it again... August 10, 2006 Hl Turner-heffer (Norwich, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Another superb record from Alexisonfire. Some fans may not be pleased because they've distanced themselves further from their debut self-titled record by turning this into a more "straight up" punk rock record. It's fast and full of emotion, as we've all come to love and respect from Alexis, an in short is a fantastic album.

Alexisonfires third length debut is an album that on first listen doesnt blow the mind, but after a few more listens the brilliance of it is evident and i love albums when they do that, yes its great to have an album that clicks from the first spin but an album that unfolds in front of you gradually is just as good.
br /The albums sound is slightly different here, the guitars are more punk fused than before but the melodies and bite are still present so rejoice in that. The band have their own unique take on music as they have three different singers who all blend into one another and offer both clean vocals and screams and the chorus' are all worthy of your attention as they soar and showcase a band that are on top of their game.
br /Album opener drunks, lovers, sinners and saints is indeed a great opener with plenty of intention and drive and shows the newer sound better than on any other track, its an anthem filled with passion and lyrics that state for example 'this is from our hearts' which shows that this album is the one that the boys are perhaps most proud of.This could be anywhere in the world follows and is the first release of the album and again is filled with confidence and all three singers give their all,the album is filled with whoahs, band chants and even hand clapping which all make for an album that is very addictive, classic after classic follows,i suppose if im honest the song you burn first isnt great but then again none of the band sing on it as planes mistaken for stars vocalist recites the lyrics but all in all this is a great album so take notice.
Brilliant but not the best November 8, 2006 Hedgehog (North East, England) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Don't get me wrong i think this album, as always is fantastic!! But it is not like the old AOF and i do think that they have lost some of what makes them so good.
br /Apart from that i absolutely love this album. I bought it the week it came out and have listened to it so much ive lost count.
br /As always Dallas Greens voice is amazing and really makes the songs on this album something else entirely.
br /My favourites are "This could be anwhere in the world" and "We are the end"
br /
br /I would recommend this album. BUY IT!!!!
