'We're all wasting away!' barks vocalist Tom Meighan on the opening, title track to Kasabian's second album, iEmpire/i. A quick peek at the sales figures, however, proves that lean times are most certainly not on the horizon. After clocking up close to a million sales of their debut album, Leicester's post-baggy rock troupe have returned with an album that ramps up all their key hallmarks: the swagger of the Gallagher brothers, the wide-pupils euphoria of acid house/acid-rock, and the crushing, propulsive dancefloor heaviness of beered-up disco rabble-rousers Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. From "Last Trip (In Flight)", a sort of gospel-enhanced remake of Hawkwind's "Silver Machine", to the driving, techno-engineered "Stuntman", it's heavy on the choruses, heavy on the fireworks, and seemingly custom-made for a festival crowd - which is, of course, no bad thing. "British Legion" is a surprising stand-out, an Lennon-esque ballad accompanied by acoustic guitar. And while the mystic-tinged "Sun/Rise/Light/Flies" suggests that shimmering Indian strings might be becoming as much of a cliché as the bolt-on orchestra was in Britpop times, you somehow doubt Kasabian are at all bothered by the prospect of being too obvious. After all, it's the job of iEmpire/i to stamp Kasabian's name onto your face with a hob-nailed boot, and it succeeds in its mission admirably. --iLouis Pattison/i

This is magic stuff! One of my favourite albums of all time. br /I must admit when i first heard empire, i was devestated. With all the promise demonstrated in the first album my initial impression of Kasabians second release wasnt a very good one. br /However second time round i became hooked and i now have to listen to this album at least once a day, yes I know thats very sad, but it is that good. br /I honestly cant fault a single song on the album and im now desperate for december to come so that i can truely appreciate these musical gods up in nottingham when the tour comes up this way. br /Buy this album!

WOW! This is a great album. Have read other reviews here and I disagree totally, this is so much better the the first album. It's great to hear a totally different sound from them, very 70's in some parts and very 'Chemical Brothers' in others. br / br /Did take a couple of listens to get hooked, but at present it's in the car and I can not bare to take it out (this and The Fratellis CD!!). br / br / br /5 out of 5 - A must have in anyone's collection.

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Album...   September 13, 2006

Empire blows away Kasabian's previous releases, the depth of sound, more refined and personalised than in "Kasabian" and with great lyrics, if you liked their first album you'll love Empire, and if you loved Kasabian, This will shoot to the top of your favourite albums. The added dance sound in some of their songs, my favourite being Apenoa, adds to the album - there's nothing to dislike o the album, and one hell of alot to like...a definate must have.

5 out of 5 stars I reluctantly disagree with many of the reviewers...   September 22, 2006

I quite enjoyed the first album from Kasabian, and when I heard the single "Empire" I decided to purchase the second album. Contrary to many of the critical reviews, this album is very good! You will immeadiatly love the tunes - they are very appealing. In particular the last one stands out and is Kasabian at it's best. br / br /If you have any doubts about buying it, then answer this question: br / br /Did you like Kasabian's first album? br / br /If the answer is yes, then buy it because I can garantee you won't regret it!

5 out of 5 stars Album Of The Decade   September 21, 2006

The best band in years! Dunno what some of the other reviewers are on about, why do people seem so hung up on comparing Kasabian to Oasis, the Roses Chemical Brothers etc? All bands have influences. The Stone Roses were dismissed by many as 60's revivalists when they first came on the scene but look at how highly they are regarded now. Empire is a classic rock n' roll record and a progression from their excellent first album. br /They wind people up by being bold, confident and brash in interviews and are percieved by some as arrogant but that's how I want my Rock stars to behave! Who wants boring personality free bands like Coldplay etc? br /Shoot The Runner, By My Side Stuntman are the first tracks that really stand out but after a few more listens the whole album flows brilliantly and there isn't a bad track on it. Kicking off with the cracking Empire and closing with the amazing Doberman, Empire is the anthemic rock n' roll classic that this decade has been waiting for. Some great melodies and contrasting styles make this an album that will stay in you're head for years. This puts dull rivals like the Kaiser Geeks, the Killers the Editors in the shade! Empire! br /
