Amazon.co.uk Review
The second album by New York City's Scissor Sisters, iTa-Dah/i, brings with it a huge weight of expectations. After all, their debut album slowly rode up the charts in 2004 to become that year's biggest selling album. The good news is that, like their debut, iTa-Dah/i is packed full of witty, grown-up pop music. Their influences remain the same, including a bit of 1970's disco and glam rock, a bit of classic Fleetwood Mac and a bit of early Elton John (who plays piano on the ultra-catchy album opener "I Don't Feel Like Dancing"). Musically, it's easily as much fun as their debut: "Land of a Thousand Words" is an homage to the themes from the iJames Bond/i films, "She's My Man" tells the tale of a fabled female New Orleans river pirate, "Ooh" is the funkiest dance song never played at Studio 54 and "Kiss You Off" is a liberating break-up anthem sung by the band's Ana Matronic. Lyrically, though, iTa-Dah/i is not as full of the unchecked hedonism of their first album, with the vaudevillian "Intermission" proclaiming, "We were born to die." But even if the sentiment isn't particularly cheerful, the music definitely is. With iTa-Dah/i, the Scissor Sisters manage to be both big and clever, once again producing some of the smartest pop music you can dance to. i--Ted Kord/i

5 out of 5 stars SCISSOR SISTERS can still cut the mustard!   September 21, 2006

The first scissor sisters album was full of new sounds and catchy lyrics. This album is no different. br /The sound is much less over the top, but with Compilations with Elton John, about as much variation in the songs as the first album and some longer and quicker songs- this album goes straight to the front of my favourite CD album, along with their debut album. br / br /The special edition version (which has a second CD) is also good, but is completely different in sound to what you expect: It is very dance/disco like- you'd almost expect a few songs to be on a Kylie/Madonna album: Nevertheless, all the tunes are catchy and worth the extra money to listen to: At the very least to show that the Scissor Sisters as a band are much more than a rock band, but a band with both creative genious and flexibility in their style. br / br /The Scissors remain the only band in which i cannot find one song of theirs that I do not like... This album adds to the list of memorable and enjoyable songs and for the price Amazon currently has it at- it is a worthy buy for any music lover.

5 out of 5 stars Give it time, it might disappoint initially   October 5, 2006

Well, I was going to review the album a day or so after I bought it, and after not much listening. br /At that time, I would have given it about 2 stars. My expectations for a second album were extremely high, but I perhaps expected too much, too soon. br /I only speak for myself of course, but I felt the album took a little time to get into. A couple of weeks have now gone by, and I can't stop listening to it! br /This review ain't going to go into the merits of particular songs, or expose any knowledge I may have about the band. To put it simply, this is a great album that I'll no doubt listen to for a long time to come. br /Great fun :)

5 out of 5 stars This is what real pop sounds like kids - buy it!   September 19, 2006

Has everything a pop album should have that suprisingly, nowerdays, is not seen often in the last 10 or so years. It appeals to the widest possible audience ranging from the authentic musician (by authentic musicians I don't mean unemployed 27 year old 'guitarists' who would think 'II7b, V, I' meant simply roman numerals) to the keen teeny bopper to the.. you get the idea. These are extremely well arranged pop songs and the hooks are endless. I Don't Feel Like Dancing genius in comparison to the waste that's around today "cough" arctic monkeys. Influences today are getting poorer resulting in poorer music - This album is a sticker and a superb influence to youngsters - Kids, this is what pop should sound like. And there fashion!! GENIUS!! And the Elton John collaboration certainly shows! Just listen and prepare to get down to your bad self!! "cause your filthy!"

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant feel-good album to get you dancin'   October 9, 2006

I am a recent convert to the Scissor Sisters, having only got their first album a couple of months ago. I thought that was brilliant, but this is even better. It hasn't left the CD player since I bought it. br / br /The overall impression this album leaves on me is a brilliantly funky, feel-good vibe that makes me want to get up and part-ay. In a day-glo, skin-tight catsuit. It'll cheer you up at any time of day or night. Having said that, there are a couple of ballads and some less overtly funky disco tracks which are every bit as good as songs such as 'I don't feel like dancin', even though their style is very different. In fact, the variety of styles here is one of the great plusses of the album. br / br /I haven't listened to the extra CD much because the main album is so good, but it seems good too and worth the extra. br / br /This is quality song-writing, by a band who can really play. It's the sort of music that makes you glad to be alive. br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Scissor Sister's magic second album   October 9, 2006
J. Ogilvie Thompson (UK)
With instant catchiness, Scissor Sisters pull pop genius from out of their sleaves in the form of their second album Ta-Dah! Packed full of infectious cheerfulness and singable lyrics just as brilliantly unique as their first self-titled album. This album though, while still retaining their retro pop glamour has clear influences from masses of sources. From Bugsy Malone in "I Can't Decide" to the 007 themes found in "Land of a Thousand Words" these influences float gorgeously into their album seamlessly. Tracks like "Ooh" and "Kiss you Off" show how this CD is so much more than a one-hit-wonder. I could not have wanted more from their second album after such an incredible entry into the charts. I currently recommend no other album over this one, add it to your collection today.
